  1. Jann's has a chart you can print, I believe.
  2. I love them. What type wood do you use?
  3. Not an expert, but I catch fish on untried jigs. I am to ignorant to modify mine. Figure the manufacturer on quality jigs knows more than me.
  4. I have put moisture absorbent from pharmacies in mine and it really helps. I also hang mine on a pool noodle on the yak and don't put them back until they dry. When I get home I set my boxes one on the top of the fridge which dries them out well.
  5. Watch Glenn's videos on setting up a baitcaster. The advice above is all good. Get a half oz spoon to practice with.
  6. Got a devils horse and a Sammy. Also some Mann's jelly worms, and little george. Caught my biggest bass ever on one 30 years ago.
  7. I have been casting some 3:16 Mission Fish in 5 inch. Can't get it to feel right. Should I be using braid, mono or fluro? What type gear? I expected to feel it on the line like a swimjig or something.
  8. Lamiglass, Okuma. BPS Tourney specials have been serviceable and reliable. I just picked up a used American Rodsmith and Ozark rod at an estate sale. They are 6 ft but easy to use in a kayak. MH and sensitive for bottom contact plastics. For sheer toughness, get an Ugly stick. I really like Ugly Stick spinning rods.
  9. I think using the lines that you use is the only good way to test this. I have used the Alberto with no problem. I have had some issues with the triple surgeon's. Also, as I fish heavy cover and muddy water, I use a leader so I can break off. I usually break off at the hook, probably because of abrasion. Half the time I will get a pig tail back meaning the knot gave.
  10. I had even more old school baits than I thought. Fits the profile, I guess.
  11. Check out Smithwick. Looks like one of their rogues, possibly in a "tiger minnow" pattern.
  12. Some people are born retailers. I believe that. Is there a local fishing club? Are their crappie in the lake. If so, offer hand tied jigs, Slater jigs, etc. If your wife has a successful cake business, y'all understand perishable stock.
  13. I guess stuff that has been around 40 years, Tom. That would be my late teens. Before Whopper ploppers, Ned rigs, etc.
  14. Went through that two years ago. It takes a year to feel normal. He is in for a couple rough weeks, for sure. Prayers sent.
  15. Gotta pay you dues... Fish the other side of the boat. Cast jitterbugs and attract little gators, then get it in before they can get it. Just enjoy being out.
  16. I looked in my bags and sort of realized that I have a lot of "old school baits": jitterbugs, Lucky 13, Rebel popper, Hula poppers, Rapala wooden cranks, Rattle traps ànd Cotton Cordell Lipless, Arkie Jigs, Daredevil and silver spoons, Creme worms .... Does any one else have old school stuff they fish a lot?
  17. A lot of mine are plano. I got some 3700 size trays at Lowe's that I like a lot. Also have some store brand from BPS and Walmart that may be flambeau or plano. I bought some bead boxes for crafters. Jigs fit perfectly. I guess I am not bery brand loyal. I bought a spinner bait box by plano that I like alot. All of mine are the same size so they fit in my bag.
  18. Not trying to be a "Richard", but you need to re-tie often, even if not changing your lure, ànd even if using a snàp. If your line gets abaided ir nicked you could break off a fish. This is especially true if fishing wood, rock, heavy vegetation, and after each fish. I had a nice fish break off on what appeared to be abraided line and now I am diligent about this. The Palomar knot is good, as stated, but the improved clinch or Uni knot work well, also. I use the uni knot on baits with treble hooks because the Palomar gets hung. You can also leave a small loop with the Uni to give the cranks more freedom.
  19. I reel left handed on a spinning rod and fly rod, right on a BC. Cast right. Sometimes I only take junebug plastics. I focus on presentation speed, shape. If I catch a couple on one bait I will change and see if they'll bite something else. I use a Lunker City Salad spoon like a toad I throw weightless with my BC
  20. I usually tie on a leader for this reason. Don't like to cut line.
  21. The same priciple works with Steelhead fly fishing. If one flashes at a topwater waking bait, swing a small dark wet fly. Who knows what goes through a fish's "mind"?
  22. I probably should, but I just turn mine upside down on saw horses and take the seat and electronics off.
  23. I took a big guy out and let him use my bigger kayak. He turtled, twice. Try one before you buy! Make sure you are stable in it. I put an aftermarket seat in mine. Much better. Don't drill a lot of holes until you go a few times. I don't have pedals, rather I paddle. I like the simplicity of a kayak and I like being able to go up in the pads. Good luck and tight lines.
  24. I am no expert, but this is an area that I keep simple. Muddy water: black and blue. Clear warer, black and blue. If black and blue doesn't work, I usually switch techniques. I have some brown jigs with falcon lake craw trailer because it looks so cool, and green pumpkin. The falcon craw was too sexy to resist. I am a sucker for trying new worm colors for some reason, though.
