  1. AVID! I got 1 two years ago, now I own 7!
  2. I had my best day ever in the rain! Boated about a dozen 5-6lb LMB, that day I caught well over 100 bass! Seriously sore thumbs, I had to switch after a while. I usually start with a 7.5 texas-rigged ribbontail worm but have also had great luck with topwaters also. Can't go wrong with a jig too. What do you mean, crazy to go fishin in the rain? I thought fish lived in water?! IMHO, the bite usually is better on a rainy day than a bluebird one.
  3. I bought one and it casts GREAT and no problems yet! I fish buzzbaits and wake spinners with it. Mine must have been lubed correctly.
  4. I love my St. Croix's! I have 6 Avids and 2 Mojos. I have the 6'6"MHF in Avid and Mojo. The mojo feels a lil' tip heavy but I like the split grip and it's got great backbone. I do not give such great reviews to the mojo crankbait rod MBC70MHM. I use it for shallow cranks cause I cant feel 'em after 5-6 feet deep > I do use it for topwater too and recently landed a 15lb channel cat with no problems with a jitterbug! The rod handled great. I would buy another mojo any day, just not the crankbait rod!
  5. TOPWATER! I also love it when bass crush a weightless fluke. These two lure genres have produced some heart-stopping strikes for me.
  6. I am glad they got caught! Anyone that abuses the priveledges we have all been given should be prosecuted to the fullest extent! They need to ambush some people in my neck of the woods.
  7. I love my Avids! I wont buy another rod.
  8. Just this past weekend I caught a 15lb channel cat on a jitterbug! Best fight to date on my Citica DPV/Mojo combo! I have also caught several on texas rigged worms, tubes, jigs and even pointers!
  9. St. Croix Avid AVS66MLF I love mine for finessing small plastics!
  10. I own several Mojo's and Avid's. I do feel the Mojos are a bit tip-heavy. I AM very satisfied with them. I do not expect the same level of quality from both these rods, however. I own MBC70MHM (the crankin' rod in question) I love it for shallow cranks with an aggressive wobble. I do NOT love it for deep crankin'. I also own the Jig-N-Worm rod, I love it for finesse jigging with braid. It's very sensitive, but still not on par with my Avid of the same size and action. Want a rod that acts like an Avid? Buy an Avid!
  11. I have seen guys use WD-40 for catfish on the Ohio! IDK if it works. Cats have super-sensitive smell receptors so there must be SOMETHING in it they like. I have seen guys spray it on chicken livers :-? I too have read WD-40 has NEVER contained fish or shark oil.
  12. I agree, toss a frog! Usually I like to work a big tube or creature bait around the edges and into the pads. Walking a fluke through this stuff is great fun too, just make sure you dont try it with 6# test!
  13. My buddy has one and I couldnt believe how far it casts! I wouldnt suggest tossing lures under 1/4 oz with it though. He uses it for cranks and loves it.
  14. REVO has all the drag power you could ever need.
  15. I agree these rods seem somewhat underpowered for this presentation. That being said, I own a Mossyback BSR 803 and 6 Avids. I would choose an Avid. The best rod for the money IMO.
  16. Heavy? YEP, not to mention it did'nt feel balanced at all with a revo S or a citica! I would'nt even pay $50 for one, I'd save my money and buy a St. Croix!
  17. I found every one I picked up was HEAVY! I also felt the crankin' rod was like a wet noodle. ;D
  18. Vicious is terrible! I would go with Sufix Fluoro, thats the shizz! I did'nt like Trilene 100% Fluoro either, they both coil like weedeater string! >
  19. I fished with spinning gear for years before I made the switch too. IMO, BC gear offers a leverage advantage that you cant get with spin gear. Bigger fish are just easier to handle with a BC. But thats just my opinion, I would'nt be without a BC now
  20. Yep, I used to fish the small ones for bluegill but noticed I would pick up a few dinky LM once in a while too. I still use the bigger ones, mostly wacky rigged, but I have texas rigged em too. Killer bait!
  21. Maybe I should've posted "Anyone use MH X-fast for tubes!" ;D I usually throw 4"tubes on a MH BC with 12-15# flouro. On the spinning rod I was using 6# green sufix elite and my hook was texposed. It almost felt as if the rod was too stiff for this bait. Did I just answer my own question? What the heck do I use this beefy spinning rod for? I dont think I need this rod Anyone have a new Avid AVC68MXF or AVC70MHXF? Trade?
  22. PowerPro noisy? I never noticed. ;D My favorite lake has a highway next to it now. At night is when it gets on my nerves.
  23. I use my old bassin gear for catfishin' or sometimes I just let the stripers in the Ohio take care of them for me! ;D Then I have an excuse to go shopping with a monkey on my back.
  24. My first $100 BC was a PQ in 1994 (round reel) I still use it for catfishing! Cheap junk indeed I bought last years Clunn reel for about 70 and its SWEEET. I like it as much as my Revo S. The revo S can be had at wally world lately for $79
