  1. I was thinking of posting the same question! I fish mostly 78 pointers and I use a Avid AVC66MHF. I read a couple other posts that said most guys use medium actions. I also have a 6' M that I recently bought just for jerkbaits. ;D I have lost a few GOOD fish with a MH but I think it was my fault for hooking too hard > A small sweepset is definetely recommended. With that said, i have also landed fish up to 7lbs with this rod. So if its too stiff it only shows on the hookset. I have caught a FEW fish on the M action but I never felt the bite like did with the MH, I just felt resistance. Presto, have fish but never felt em bite!? :-? I think I'm sticking with the MH for jerkbaits. Shallow cranks get fished on a 7' MH Mojo Crankbait rod. This rod is sweet for those shallow cranks as it has a very sensitive tip but has good backbone for big fish too. I tried fishing this rod for jerkbaits but I'm 5'10 with boots on
  2. IMO, The zillion feels better in my hand. As for other suggestions, Revo SX. I love mine and it tosses the light lures with ease. I find the SX easier to cast into the wind.
  3. Congrats on your first (but not last) Shimano! I would've never dropped the cash on one, my first one was a gift. I own 3 now
  4. YES! I have the same dilemma! I've caught tons of bass on brown and greens, but only a handful on black n blue! I have noticed the black works sometimes in clear water, but doesnt produce the same numbers for me. I did catch 3 catfish on black jigs though! Earlier this year I got a 5lb LMB on a black Eakins Jig, so I still toss it when all else fails...
  5. WOW! I'LL TAKE A COUPLE! YOU BETTER GET BUSY, THESE COULD BE HOT!
  6. I really should thank my dad for introducing me to bass with a HulaPopper at about 8 yrs old. The 1st one I caught was right at dusk and I still replay every moment in my head. The fish was 2-3 lbs and my 5'6" Ace Hardware rod and Zebco 33 were singing! ;D Nothing like a good topwater bite to hook you for life!
  7. PowerPro50/12 or P-line flouro-clear 12-15#
  8. Listen to RW, and have money to spare!
  9. I agree totally, I use a Gloomis BSR803, for a spinning rod its a broomstick. It's only used for skipping and occasionally tubes. Practice sidearm casting with a whipping motion and make sure to aim like you would skip a rock.
  10. the revo s is top notch and can be had for well under $100. I have 3 mojo's and they're GREAT! I own a few Avids as well, so I can speak for the better half too.
  11. Heres a good tip I came up with! Take two 5lb bags of sugar and throw them in a wal-mart bag! Scale should weigh in right over 10 lbs! I've found spring scales to be more accurate I have a 8year old Stren spring scale that still weighs perfect, but the plastic cover got sunscreen on it and the needle is hard to see now. I bought a new one just to shut my buddies up.
  12. I now own several Revo/Avid combos, but for years all I could afford were lightning rods. I still dont go fishin' without at least one cheap combo. You never know when you might get into the pond grenel The bass have never complained that they were not caught on quality equipment! Same goes for spinning gear, I never failed to land a fish because I was 4 ball bearings short! I did have an old Daiwa Cygnus reel seat snap when I was hooksetting a 2#er on a jig! I still landed the fish with the rod under my arm and the reel in both hands! ;D Good Times! That lil reel only caught a few hundred bass at least, so i guess I got my $50 worth!
  13. I snap a finesse jig off the bottom in two or three snap bursts, before letting it settle for a bit. It really pays off, when the ol lift and drag aint workin.
  14. I use a St. Croix Mojo Bass 7' MH MOD It's got great sensitivity and a soft tip but has plenty of backbone. I only use larger cranks so this rod is perfect. Even caught a few 15lb+ stripers and I couldnt believe the power this rod has. 8-) Oh yeah, priced right at $100 with 5 yr warranty
  15. I feel ripped off since I paid so much and all I bought was MEMORY! It was fishable for 2 weeks > I put sufix fluoro on similar reels and its SWEEEET! Have purchased KVD line conditioner for it, maybe that'll help : Had it snap trying to free a finesse jig, when other lines of similar strength straightened the hook.
  16. 1 line for all these techniques? It would be P-line Fluoro-clear. Its very limp and memory is very low. If I needed abrasion resistance, it would be Yo-Zuri ultra soft Hybrid.
  17. St. Croix Mojo Bass 7' MH Mod '08 Shimano Citica DPV 5.0:1 14# Sufix Fluoro
  18. I bought one for $70, the 5.4:1 (5.2:1) maybe for crankin'. I'm so pleased with it I may buy the burner before they sell out. This reel casts and performs as well as my shimanos and revos. Just to be clear, the one on clearance right? BTW, the new version looks exactly the same. Anybody have the new one?
  19. Yep, with a lifetime warranty, unless you prefer a cool paint job and split grips- http://www.***.com/Shimano_Compre_Casting_Rods_IM8_Graphite/descpage-SCCR.html If you could trade a broken Shimano for a Avid with the St. Croix Upgrade plan, I would be sold! I guess I'm in love with my fancy purple paint job. Not really, I own a few Mojos and Avids in the exact same sizes and actions. I bought the mojos for packing around in a work truck. I have been pleased with every aspect of the rod, even the "heavy tip" NO, it's not an Avid but its not fancy painted junk IMO
  20. Greetings!

  22. Welcome, and enjoy your new found addiction!
  23. X2 I flip n pitch em around like a jig!
  24. When I use the Gman brand I replace the snap-lock on the blade with one about 2 sizes up. It wont bend like the original. Hope this helps. It sure cant hurt! I had a hard time finding one that fit, so take a lure in with you.
