  1. I remember reading a post about these a while back. Seemed like not alot of people have tried em out yet. Maybe another member can help you out, have you tried searching for older posts?
  2. Check out the Rapala DT-1! My local GM had these on sale for $4.99, it's definetely big and bulky. They are balsa (no rattles) and definetely the shallowest crank I've ever used. Great for waking.
  3. I went fishing last night and used my new BSR 803 for tossin' a 10" power worm with 30lb PP and a 5/0 Superline EWG Gammy. Love at first fish! Theres nothing better for me than the feeling of a big ol fish on a spinning rod suckin in that worm and then just waitin for the moment. SSSHH! There he is! WHAM! I love summertime.
  4. St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF with Revo SX and 12# p-line flouro-clear. I love it for spinnerbaits! I'm gonna wear this thing out! LOL
  5. I always start with topwater! It's so fun to hear a strike but not fully see it! I also use black, large colorado-bladed spinnerbaits, soft plastics and jigs. Yes, i do fish most of the same spots as daytime. I pay close attention to the moon phases for the most productive times, sometimes it pays off. I also believe the fish are a lil easier to fool under the cover of darkness, cause i usually catch more #'s of big-uns at night! Lately I've caught several 10-15lb channel cats at night with topwaters!
  6. I still have a PQ bc reel that I bought in 96-97 (round reel) It still gets used for catfishing and when it gets cleaned still operates fairly smooth. $99 with a free BPS rod and balancing kit. The rod is history, but I still pick up this reel and flip jigs every now and then, just for nostalgic reasons. The new PQ gets rave reviews but my newest BPS reel was last years clunn, which has been great so far.
  7. It could be harmful to someone, IF I DONT GET TO FISH! Gee, I hope I did'nt hurt that fishes feelings by presenting him with a fake meal and then snatching him from the water by his jaw for 30 seconds. At least I put em back. Ethics talk on a fishing forum! SHEEEEEESH ;D
  8. I love my 66MHF St. Croix Mojo Bass! I own two Avids in the SAME size and action and besides being a TAD bit heavier, it is a GREAT rod. I've caught channel cats up to 15lbs and a few stripers that were pushing 20. It had plenty of backbone for these fish, I was impressed. Everyone here kept bashing them and i did'nt really expect much so I was pleasantly suprised to like this rod so much.
  9. I use 15lb p-line floro-clear and its good shizz. I like yo-zuri hybrid but none of the stores near me carry it.
  10. I agree! St. Croix Avids rock! I've caught stripers up to 20lbs and channel cats up to 15 and had no problems at all. I own 8 now and I still find excuses to add another occasionally.
  11. I have the mojo crankin rod MBC70MHM and its ok. Works good for cranks that run less than 8'. Any deeper and I dont feel *****. For such a soft tip the rod has great backbone, I recently landed a 15lb channel on it and it was NO SWEAT. Restored my faith a lil bit, just wish i could feel deeper with it. i also have MBC66MHF jig-n-worm, it is a GREAT all-around rod. St. Croix makes great products and has good customer service!
  12. St. Croix Triumph! Nothing else compares for the price!
  13. Whoa that's a hard one! I have a 5 yr old boy and he's been fishing with me since he was 2. He started casting and actually fishing at 3! We usually just keep crappie and catfish but if a bass is mortally hooked and just wont recover, he gets cleaned and eaten too. It did'nt sound like y'all are keeping any to eat, so maybe you were on the right track telling her that some other critter needs to eat the bass. good luck
  14. Kinda left the door open a bit! I dont know about you but I prefer 6'6"-7' rods. All my rod purchases in the past 2 yrs have been St. Croix Avids, 8 of them. ;D I would reccomend AVC70MF, it fishes almost like a MH but is soft enough to chuck weightless plastics too. If you fish big spinnerbaits like 3/8 and up go with AVC70MHF, this rod is one powerful beast. I use it for stripers with 50 lb braid when it's not my flippin stick.
  15. X2! I use em on my Daiwa's and Quantum's cause the handles feel a lil puny compared to my Revo's. Not because they look cool but to try match the size of my handles. I've fished em in the rain but never noticed any benefits though.
  16. I would be tossing a spinnerbait both night and day! I've caught some good 'uns that way! At night i like to use a black spinnerbait with a LARGE colorado blade for maximum thump. Chatterbaits, rattling topwaters, jigs, lizards, buzzbaits and shallow cranks should all pay off in water like youre fishin'. GOOD LUCK!
  17. WELCOME SHAMSTER! I would definetely reccomend learning to "walk the dog" with that zara spook. This time of year i catch a ton of fish with that lure. You make a long cast and then twitch youre rod tip kinda like 1,2,3 pause 1,2,3 pause, when the cadence is right the lure dances to side to side. Start with youre rod tip high at the end of the cast and as you get closer you need to lower the rod to keep the action the same. It's a really fun way to fish. The tiny torpedo is a killer with it's own built in action.
  18. My buddy has the All-Star and it's light and sweet! Very sensitive. I have a Mojo and I cant feel a crank much deeper than 6'! It has horsed in a 15lb channel cat so I cant b*tch too much. >:(Shoulda bought the Avid crankin' rod.
  19. I have a Fenwick HMG amd it's a really good rod. St. Croix Triumph is another fine choice.
  20. 12-15 and thats consolidating :
  21. I use it for topwaters and also for hard jerkbaits when I'm fishn from a jonboat, or the shore. Yes it has PLENTY of backbone, it feels like a MH when the fight is on. Something fun about fightin a big fish on a small rod. ;D
  22. Avid will make you sell all your other rods and replace em, with more Avids! CAUTION Bought one two yrs ago, now I own 7.........soon to be 8 ;D
  23. I like my green solar bats, I dont like to spend much on sunglasses. I tear em up or lose them pretty quickly.
  24. I used a 6'6" MHF for years until I accidentely tied a Sammy on my 7'0" MHF Avid one night. Never looked back, the difference for me was incredible. I still use a 6'6" when fishing close quarters like brushy farm ponds from shore.
  25. WOOT! WOOT! Congrats on the return of your long lost treasures! Even bigger congrats on your recovery! I hope you get to wear the fish out. I just lost my father to brain cancer after a 5 yr battle. The last time he was in the hospital he told the Dr. the only thing he wanted to do was go fishing with his grandson one more time! We went several times and those are the most treasured memories I will probably ever have. Sorry, let me get back on track. I am crazy about my Revo STX. Good luck! If you are like me some "h2o therapy is required." Chicken soup for the soul
