Ranger R72 pros and cons
jav200, Thanks for the reply. I am looking at a private sale...a couple of different ones actually. One has a 115 on it and another has a 125 on it. Can't imagine that will make a big difference in speed. Looking for an older boat that is not too big, that I am not afraid to hit a rock with, and that handles well in river current.

river musky help...
My first choice would be double bladed bucktails followed by jerkbaits. If you don't have any double bladed spinnerbaits, go with the biggest single blade mepps you can find. For jerk baits I like the hellhounds and mantas. I would also try some swimbaits.

first cast
First cast and third twitch with the LC pointer last weekend at boji looking for smallies. Never measured her as the season does not open til 5/21. Quick photo and back in the water. Thick fish probably about 42". Why is it I catch musky on my bass baits and bass on my musky baits? Saw lots of bedding bass...just not a lot of takers.

battery back up surge protectors keep going off
All 3 are on separate breakers, and have been in this current config for several years with no problems. We must be getting periods of low or high voltage that is setting them off. I have the city guy coming back to put on a voltage recorder today. Thanks

battery back up surge protectors keep going off
I have 3 different battery back up with surge protectors running on different circuits in my office. Several times per day they will all (at the same time)start beeping back and forth from battery power to regular power. They will do this from anywhere to just a couple of minutes to an hour and then will quit. I have our city electric dept stumped at this point. Any suggestions from BR?

A new phenomenon for 2010...
I estimate the weights of all my fish and then I just add a pound or two if needed or depending on my mood. I'm always spot on too....cuz i am the best!!!! I don't trust those d**n scales..they are always wrong!!!

Going to buy side imaging - any last words?
I have been following your threads and doing my own research on the same subject of Low vs bird. Me and my buddy finally decided with bird. The last call we made was to his ranger dealer...Who basically said " you don't want lowrance" That spoke volumes for me. I can't wait for the ice to melt. Hopefully we will have a boat on the water within 6 weeks and I can give you our impressions.

my first muskie
Congrats on the ski. I hope you don't fall as deep into the "musky chase" as I have. Musky fishing is a lot more expensive than bass fishing but, nothing compares to that adrenaline rush of a huge musky chasing your bait to the boat and then catching them on the figure 8.

When they don't eat (finesse-power)
I may be going out on a limb here but, does KVD ever slow down? I don't ever recall him going finesse. I certainly am not an expert on his techniques though. From my limited perspective, it appears he is only targeting the active bass.

line tangle with jerkbaits
Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry for the thread hijack.

line tangle with jerkbaits
No.1, I don't fish spinning gear much but, my kids do. I also get frustrated with the amount of line twist they get. I am curious as to how "closing the bail by hand" could help eliminate line twist. TIA Sodak

question about line visibility
Great info guys, I appreciate your posts. I wish I had a little more to offer on the subject but, all I have are theories. My theory is that the line diameter is the culprit as well. Not so much in limiting the action of the bait, although it could be a factor but, I agree with paul roberts about the sound or vibration that a bigger diameter line gives off. The bigger the line the more water displacement it gives off. Could this be spooking the fish? I don't know but, the water displacement and vibration of larger diameter lines have to make more "noise" in the water. It also seems to me that the "braid" lines even though they are smaller in diameter seem to make more noise or disruption in the water. Next year I am going to start fishing with 4-6 lb yo zuri and see if I don't see an improvement.

Left handed bait casters
Don't let any of these right handed, right reelers fool you. If you are right handed, you reel with your left and hold the pole with your right. The only reason they reel with the right hand, is that is the way they learned. Why most of them don't change is a good question but, I would guess the answer to lie in their lack of ambition or the amount of money they have invested in right handed reels and don't want to go to the expense to change. I always get a kick out of how they rationalize why they use a right handed reels. Honestly, do any of their reasons have merit? Would you wear a baseball glove on your right hand to catch the ball only to take it off to throw. If you had one arm, I suppose you would. At this stage do yourself a favor and learn the correct way. Your power hand on the rod and your weak hand on the reel. You will not regret it.
