Humor: Warning for newcomers
When asking questions on decent priced gear: Warning!!!!! In a few minutes there will be several posts that will tell you that you wont catch fish unless you save some more money and get a $500 Loomis rod then they will pm you w/ info about a 2nd or 3rd mortage info on your home and selling your children and pets into slavery or to Gypsies depending on going price, so you can afford the $800 reel you will need to catch fish Scariest part is this Loomis/shimano Mafia isnt even sponsored or affliated with the company, once you join there is no getting out. Then comes going without meals to afford lucky craft lures and other japanese lures.....

Flippin reel
Unless you are flipping 90%-%100 of the time. Check out a Daiwa Procaster X.not the new crap, these have an aluminum frame and are built solid...They dont make them anymore but there are a few around on EBAY got great prices. Everything you need in a good flipping reel for low $. I have some w/ braid on them and have really abused them and they keep on ticking. I have a Team Daiwa 150p that retails for $100 that i really like too. $100 ABu Garcia revos are awesome. BPS extreme reels are nice when you get them around $40 bucks. Just oil them before fishing. Been impressed with one I bought out of the outlet of the BPS in Macon. Shimano citicas 100 are sweet and light for the $, but really low line capacity.

Wormin rod for under 100 bucks
I use a TAS827C for pitching and worming. Really like it and the green handle Diawa rods. Super sensitive....Good rod at that price.....Shimano rods are super nice. Warning!!!!! In a few minutes there will be several posts that will tell you that you wont catch fish unless you save some more money and get a $500 Loomis rod ;D ;D then they will pm you w/ info about a 2nd or 3rd mortage info on your home and selling your children and pets into slavery or to Gypsies depending on going price, so you can afford the $800 reel you will need to catch fish Scariest part is this Loomis/shimano Mafia isnt even sponsored or affliated with the company, once you join there is no getting out. ;D

Anyone else notice this shameless promotion???
Too much time on my hands= Being on crutches for 12 weeks, no work to do and fishing from the back of someone elses boat 3 times since then, my own x2. Have posted several times about aggravation of foot surgery.....That is having too much times on my hands....... Wasnt being negative, Just stating and observation that I thought was humorous......Nascar does similar stuff for ad $$$, BASS just doesnt regulate it like Nascar does, BASS wont fine you for the wrong stickers.

How do you rig the XPS Swimbait?
I think Basspro has discontinued the XPS swimbaits. The saltwater bait is for trolling or something....Think they are more to get $$$ out of unsuspecting customers...... I fished mine once and all it did was rolled no matter how slow you fished it,prollie why its discontinued.. $5 more and you can get a basstrix......there is also a company on ***.com that has some shad and stuff.

Anyone else notice this shameless promotion???
;D In the May issue of Bassmaster, that cover the classic :, Ike is in an ad for Bio-sonix and is quoted saying that He couldnt have won AOY in 2006 without it. Well, Having too much time on my hands I went back and watched the reruns of Bassmaster from last year and made sure i looked closely when his boat was on camera....Never saw one, he never said anything about one....I think he wrapped it up on the which was in August....Then He didnt have one on the boat at the classic. Kinda funny..But how much is your credibilty worth, other sponsors might notice this if I did...Almost as bad as Shaw Grigsby in a commercial for stren and then is fishing w/ and plugging sufix 2 mins later.

How do you rig the XPS Swimbait?
I have some of the 4.5"'s and all i had to do was take them out of package, tie it one, tuck treble in belly and cast them..... No way to rig them. Steve kennedy used something else. I think a huddleston trout, and some basstrix baits.

Fly fishing equiptment for Largemouth?
http://www.byrdultrafly.com/index.htm I posted the wrong link...the above works. The Orvis Rocky Mountain LA's are sweet too. If you dont fish saltwater. I used mine on one trip and cleaned it upon return and never had any problems. Okuma and Pflueger make some great reels too for less than $100. Line wise. I like courtland bass line, Orvis wonderline, and BPS house brands, WF one line size higher than what the rod is rated for. You can make your own shooting head/sink tip out of a section of lead core trolling line another thing to google. I did catch a few smallies 2-3lbs on a 3wt wade fishing the Little Teneesee river in NC. That year I tried to catch every species of bass in the southeast on the fly. Never got a suwanee though.

Fly fishing equiptment for Largemouth?
Jim, With the flies you use, the current and the smallies....A 7 is a great choice. The 9.5 was luck, I was just throwing a streamer around a 27 acre pond i lived on in college right after I moved in. One of those December Ga days that you can wear shorts and a t-shirt. The catfish, with the exception of one or two caught bass fishing, were caught on a stocked pond that the fish are fed sometimes, so i tied some flies that looked like food pellets and caught some of them. Also a few on 4lb test UL tackle. The stripers, hybrids was a fun way to show off after more than a few beers. I fished with a flyrod almost exclusively before I got into tournament fishing, So me and my buddies would pull of some crazy stuff. Plus w/ the somewhat expensive rods we use warrenties, it was nice to break one on a fish and send it back for a new one. Check out that site I posted. Bill Byrd is awesome w/ the ultralight flyrod. Rarely will a LMB jump on the fly if you fight him like you are supposed to...

Lightening Rod or Bionic Blade
BPS extreme is only one that is going to be noticeably lighter than the others listed. I would go with a 6' or 6'6". 6'6" is great for everything. You can also dig up some good deals online on Allstar rods w/ pistol grip, which is what I would do for if i needed a rod like that. Will be a whole lot better for that kind of fishing.

Fly fishing equiptment for Largemouth?
I caught a 9.5LMB on a 5wt. Alsoa few 9- 10lb catfish, and 5 lb stripers and hybrids. Several bass in the 5-8lb range on the fly...Check out www.byrdsultrafly.com ....He has caught 10s on 0 and 1 wts. i think.

Fly fishing equiptment for Largemouth?
Google Bill Byrd, Southeastern flyfishing....www.byrdultrafly.com I think.....If not Google....An 8wt is over kill on big fish too. A 5 wt is all the rod you need until you decide to go with something smaller. 6wt isbiggest I would go. An 8 is a saltwater rod really...I use it for hybrids and stripers when I dont have to cast alot. Redline-Check out Sage, Thomas and Thomas, and Winston. Orvis T3 series is awesome too.

Ike - Opinion update
Awesome angler, but annoys me. The yelling over 15" fish has gotten old. I dont care how much money is on the line. He can fish(understatement), but he is still a TOOL in my opinion. that is all. I dont think we have seen his last meltdown either,He is just having a good run.

Is it just me?
Not just little boats, This friggin cast makes it hard to keep my balance in a 20ft triton in the wind.....No way am I fishing from anything smaller for a while.

Fly fishing equiptment for Largemouth?
I started flyfishing around 10 years ago when i was in college. Alot of trout fishing but alot of bass fishing too. I suggest going with a medium price Bass Pro shops setup go to the store and tell them you want a bass set-up but no the low end combo, A fly shop is great too, but $ but for a begginer. Great rods for the money. One of the big companies make the. I use several Orvis rods and reels, Have a 8wt Temple Fork, and a 6ft 2wt custom built on a cedar blank. I had a few bass pro rods too 6 and 7 wts. I use a 8'6" 3wt and a 9ft 5wt more for bass(shoalies, smallies, spots,LM) than anything else. It will be a while before you really need to throw really big flies. I only use my 8wt for saltwater and stripers hybrids. It doesnt hurt to go up one line size more than suggested when you are learning. Flywise. #2 and #4 sneakypetes (poppers)(chartruese)and several size woolly buggers. and some small stuff for bluegill(great learning fish). A 7.5-9ft leader, I like the pre-rigged Orvis knotless, tapered leader. Another thing w/ bass you will need a good reel w/ a disc drag. I like the Orvis rocky mountain reels, they have a cassette spool system, making them more versatile. PM me w/ questions. I flyfish alot.

Jarden buys Shakespeare,Pflueger,Allstar.....
I dont see why you would get cut JT.... The numbers that have been thrown around by the reports from the business periodicals(wall street journal, etc.) about the sales. I would have never thought these co. would be worth and also have the sales they had. I think PF did $300 million worth of business last year.PF has been restructured in the recent past to make it a more appealing investment for a bigger company to want to aquire so their plan worked well. I dont remember all the details, but will see if i can dig them up. I was really suprised.

Is it just me?
Since foot surgery in feb. I have been able to go fish 4 maybe 5 times, this time last year looking at my log I had 50 days logged plus 12 tournaments. Have been wearing an aircast for the last 3 weeks after a hardcast for 6weeks.So the 5lber i caught flipping last friday is the highight so far) Figured out last weekend that as long as I have soon one w/ me to back me/pull me out, I can fish after rigging up the right seat and pedastal in my bassboat, so i dont have to put too much weight on my foot. Weather is great here, although there has been no rain yet the water is muddy everywhere i have been. Now the problem, everytime I get to the lake....the wind starts blowing 30mph from whatever direction I am trying to fish :'(, I find a protected area and it changes direction....And with my ankle/foot immobile I am almost falling out of my buddies TR20x and my 18'6" aluminum from the wave action.....Anybody else having this problem with the wind or is it just me :-[...I dont mind the wind when I have my usual balance ;D Top it all off I went back to the small lake I caught my PB since the day I caught it, Its almost unfishable.....Vegtation is unreal, I have yet to I.D the stuff. Tried everything. Even a Spro slop frog will snag the stuff. My dad swears the septic system from the 4H center that surrounds it goes in the lake

Single Willow Leaf
There's a guy in Georgia that makes a spinnerbait w/ a single willowleaf for fishing for suspended bass in standing timber. I dont think there bait co. has a website yet, but google...A train blade, train spinnerbait, similar. That lake is an hour and a half east and like night and day to my home lakes. So I built a few myself similar to what they use over there when the fish suspend in the trees.

Jarden buys Shakespeare,Pflueger,Allstar.....
15 days after buying out Pure Fishing(berkley)....Jarden(Coleman Outdoors) buys out Shakespeare and all the brands it has aquired. Wonder how this will affect things. :-?

Are you surprised ???
My 10 was on a trick worm(powerpro w/ 17lb flouro leader to skim top of grass) in a 100 acre public lake. My 9.5 was in a 28 acre private lake on fly tackle. #6 popper I broke off a 10+ in a private pond on a jig, 30lb test. I tournament fish mostly but I throw baits the majority of the time that are bigger than average just so I hopefully catch larger than average fish when conditions allow.

Carolina rigging
Team Allstar 827C - 6'10 heavy/x-fast tip., Shimano Cruxis reel, P-line CX 15lb. At least a 3/8oz tungsten wt if i can get away with it. usually use a 6" shorter leader(12lb P-line CX) than what I think I should use. Always gets me more bites for some reason. Plastic bead and smallest swivel possible.
