  1. I feel your pain. These northern lakes with muck bottoms that get all silted in made any thing on the bottom more difficult. Also the leaves that are floating now have been messing up a lot of my casts. One will get drug down somehow and hooked on a treble and I won't be able to rip it clean. Has been happening a tn to me lately. But that's just life I guess.
  2. Basically any soft plastic can be made weedless. Swimbaits chatter baits swim jigs. If its not all the way to the top you could throw something like a minus 1 also,
  3. I personally don't find that it matter to much on if it is labeled as a swimjig. One thing though is swimjigs usually have a longer shank where lots of jigs might be shorter and more compact. Also the position of the line tie isn't always the same. I would say 1/4 oz is usually what I throw and sometimes maybe a 3/8. As for DSG they actually have these BooYa jigs that I guess u can only get a dicks. I use them all the time but they have a really short shank and that sucks but the 1/4 oz green ones I throw all the time. That with a ripple shad for a trailer is killer for me.
  4. Wow I can't believe they are $300... You know what they say though. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I can guarantee I won't be buying $300 pliers any time soon or probably ever. lol If I paid $300 they better do a lot more then just be pliers. Do they also make me dinner and do my laundry?
  5. I would have to look at them again in person. It said on the package they are for lures. That your just supposed to pull it over the eye. They nap on around the eye and are on there pretty good. They were for the couple things I tried it on to test it. I had to grab it with pliers and pull it off back the other way.
  6. The things I posted are for leaders?
  7. I know I have said snap but I don't actually mean snaps. I just call everything snaps. I also use duolocks. I said it in another post before. Some of them are so tuff you kinda need pliers to squeeze them open. I can't imagine those opening up or breaking. Something else is going to break before those.
  8. None of mine do anything to my line and there is no issue. It actually really nice that it touches the line. When you have slack in your line it like automatically keeps your line somewhat tight so you don't reel in loops on your spool. I kind of always assumed that's what it was for. Like working a jerkbait or frog or something where lots of time you reel in line that can be loose at times.
  9. I would agree with 50# braid being your best option. Since you want to c-rig and throw frogs I assume hollow and not buzz you almost need the braid. If not for that I would say 15# copoly. You could get away with that even with frogs and c-rig maybe but its not ideal.
  10. I actually do that a lot sometimes. It does depend on how much I have fished recently and how well I have done. Sometimes I get at a point where I would rather fish something "I want to fish" then throw a T-rig for example. I might be able to kill it with a T-rig but sometimes Lots of times I look at it like no matter what you have tied on and what the conditions are no matter how backwards it could seem at the time. There is always a fish that will bite that thing right now if you get it in front of him. Of course not being open to all options will limit your success but it can be more enjoyable. This is really true at places I have fished a bunch or fish all the time. I really could care less about catching 2# or something. Actually there has been days where I won't even set on them cause I don't care to catch them and its almost a hassle. I am sure lots of people on here sorta feel the same. Like how many thousands of 2# fish will I catch in my life. They are just plain and boring sometimes.
  11. Not Bad I got a Whopper Plopper not to long ago but it was to late for it really. I have high hopes for it next year! Mine Would be Drop Shot Deps 250 Hudd 8" Weedless ROF 5 S-Song 115 Basstrix 4" Buckeye Mop jig 3/8 Chatterbait with a Booyah blade on a jig with no stupid flexable hook.
  12. A couple years ago we were fishing this pond at a party. I made a dropshot with a spinning rod that was available. I had a gulp minnow on it and something came and grabbed it hard and started running. I knew instantly I was screwed cause I could feel it pulling so hard. Well I never checked the drag and my line broke. Like 10 mins later one of the girls i forget who someones wife/girlfriend have a decent fish on. It was a catfish that probably went about 8-10# and it had my red hook in its mouth. It was also on the other side of the pond now. The pond is was about 7-8 acres and now it was on the total other side. It was crazy cause I just hooked its face like 10 minutes ago and now its on the total other side. I didn't really think fish bite again so fast. It was not like a miss or almost hook type deal. That hook was in it good "being a catfish and all" it was like it broke my line then instantly swam to the other side and chowed down on some hotdog like I never even hooked it or it didn't matter to it.
  13. The things I posted are not speed clips but they would probably work and are the smallest snap I know of. I only tried them once and the lures I was using probably had kind of a thick eye so i had to pull the clip off with my needle nose. I just happened to see them and they were only $.99 for like 10 so why not.
  14. That would be really good. Or you could get a 5:4 Tatula and a Diawa DX M/H and go all out You could put some 17# on there and be fine lol You wont be able to spool the reel any ways. I sure you could still cast stuff weighing 3/8 or whatever np also. Thats what I would do anyways if I had $200 for a combo.
  15. Wow that seems so weird to me. I am totally the opposite and most of mine are on the higher end and I have very few lighter rods. It makes sense for me though since I rarely throw lighter lures. I guess I probably throw things somewhere around 3/8-5/8 maybe 4/8-3/4 most of the time. The only "small" lure I have really fished recently is a spinbait 80. But I have been using spinning tackle and btw it kills them They hit that thing so hard.
  16. I like a rod that would be 6'6"-7' and a 7:1 reel would be ideal but a 6:4 can get the job done also. As for rod rating that varies cause not all brand are the same. Generally though I would prefer a Medium Fast or maybe a M/H Moderate. Not all rod are the same so its hard to say. One rod could be a M/H and be very similar to another rod that is a M in how it feels. Also something that can load well with lighter lures. Some jerkbaits can be super light and give you trouble trying to cast if you don't get the straight shot with no fluttering. A moderate action actually helps reduce helicoptering I think. My moderate swimbait rods hardly ever helicopter my Deps or S-Wavers where as the stiffer rods seem to all the time.
  17. Does anyone actually fish these or have they used them? It seems like the cranking ones are more popular then the casting models. Well I got a brand new one the other day from a friend for $40. It is a 6'6" M/H F and I think it is rated like 1/4-3/4. I fished it a little bit today and it seems decent I guess but I don't like the reel seat with the sorta double trigger. It was bother me fishing a bottom bait cause I full palm when I do that and it sits weird in my hand.
  18. I only have 1 combo that's under $100 so its my only choice. Black Max with a Falcon Bucco Micro 6'6" M/H. That whole combo cost me like $35 since the reel was free and Walmart sucks.
  19. I have these super tiny ones I never use but I didn't know the name. Well I found them first thing I type into google "fishing small lure snap" lol You just pull it over the eye and it snaps on. They are super tiny but its hard to get them off once there on. I guess after reading reviews on them lots of guys use them for fly fishing.
  20. Yea the velcro would work I have used them my self for things. I have tons of them from panasonic telephone systems. They are like the ones on say your laptop power supply. I have used them to hold rods together or hold a big bait like a Hudd or something so I don't have to hook it to something or wrap my line around my handle.
  21. I use to do that when I very first started throwing swim jigs. I get tired of doing it eventually and for me it doesn't really help much. I throw swimbaits on my swim jigs probably 80-90% of the time and the tail makes it pulse with having to shake your rod.
  22. Well he had to of had a garbage snap. I use duolocks and other types sometimes. But the ones I use will not break even if I were to hook like a 30# catfish or carp. You can even get eagle claw duolocks and they are tuff. Just don't buy super thin wire ones that are flimsy and bend easy. My snaps are generally rated higher then my line.
  23. You should check the Diawa videos a out the new zillions. It looks very impressive.
  24. I rigged a few of these up from baits I never use. They should work but I haven't been able to fish recently. I hope to try them soon and hopefully I can get one to suspend.
