  1. I got a GLX flipping stick I still use today from a friend who used it on a spinning rod... He cut the trigger off and I had to have the seat and back cork replaced but it worked great for him he said. It was a heavier rod so he used it for Muskie fishing. I bought him a spinning rod to fit his needs and we made a "even" trade.
  2. Also I think lews makes a swimbait rod for like $60 I don't know anything about it except it can throw big baits and is cheap.
  3. That's not how it works. With that logic I could throw bricks on a spinning rod.I posted this before I read all the comments. What 00 is sayings totally true. Trying just pulling a 8" hudd or even a 68 when it's in the water. You will quickly see how little it moves and how much force you need to actually move it. Hudds kind of create a lot of resistance when you pull them and even more so if you plan on using a 68 over a normal 6". That is the whole reason lots of guys swing for the fences on hook sets with mono line and heavy baits. Also you targeting bigger fish that in turn have much much thicker mouths then your avg 2#.
  4. I guess I am not the only one who like glass rods for things like chatterbaits. It all depends on the situation for me though. I really like throwing things like hollow bellies and swim jigs with them also. Maybe it is just a mental thing for me but I feel as if I don't end up thinking oh well it was a short strike and he never had the bait like I use to. They just seem to get it every time. I almost forgot it works great for me personally on buzzfrogs also like a Stanley Ribbit ect. Again I just feel like I stick a lot more fish and I don't need insane power to hook them. To each there own I suppose.
  5. I will use a glass rod for a lot of jig hook type baits. The only stipulation is I have to be also using braided line. With sharp hooks and no stretch line I have no issues sticking fish. I made the switch a few years back because I would get super fast hard strike and no one would be home when I went for a hook set. I personally feel like when they slam into a moving bait on a F/XF graphite rod they feel it and spit it out right away. Maybe it's just me be there is certain baits I prefer to use glass with that does not include treble hooks. If I am fishing grass I still use graphite so I can rip it free. I use to have big issues with hook sets on grass minnows and weedless shads. I made the switch to glass spinning and braided line and I get them all now. Everything kind of went from there. I am just trying to give them more flex to really inhale the bait with little resistance while having no stretch line and still being able to drive a hook home with no issues.
  6. That's basically the same bag I posted that is used in the military and what I currently use. The military one come in many patterns like BDU ACU ect also. I have a ACU one and a black one. I use the black one for my tackle since the ACU one has been through hell and back literally.
  7. Please don't take it personally. I mean no offense by it. If I could throw 4oz baits all day on a normal rod then I would. I have seen guys catch tarpons on fly rods out of kayaks and get dragged all over by them for who knows how long. There is a right tool for every job and heavy rods are the right tool for launching heavy lures as far as possible. Sometimes we go night fishing for catfish with ultralights and its great fun all because of the light rod and line. I could use a heavy rod and horse them right in but what's the point? I don't need to launch a heavy bait way out there.
  8. Here's is a actual link to the bag I use http://www.uscav.com/productinfo_ab.aspx?utm_expid=16629476-3.YzmYeoOKRfGKtzNx74GoXQ.1&productid=8654&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Product%20Listing%20Ads&cvsfa=1007&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=32363934382d3733363436&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Faclk%3Fsa%3Dl%26ai%3DCLJnh41ZpU7_-K8LNswfn04CwAZG4984Ese6LsjrRnLrv7QEIBBABIPiZixIoBFDkyu3x______8BYMmGxYvEpPwPoAGXkYn2A8gBB6oEJE_QLHvpUVG4vyj9VNkbTlDa_KI5IX0NaNzlVnmB43aQlS5X9YAFl-C8C8AFBaAGJtgGAoAH0e72CZAHA-ASlIL-4tvXm4TsAQ%26sig%3DAOD64_2EVWcWRQsZzgblSSmMJ3uiDRRYsg%26ctype%3D5%26rct%3Dj%26q%3D%26ved%3D0CCcQwg8%26adurl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.uscav.com%2FProductInfo.aspx%253Fproductid%253D8654%2526%2526utm_source%253Dgoogle%2526utm_medium%253Dcpc%2526utm_campaign%253DProduct%252520Listing%252520Ads%2526cvsfa%253D1007%2526cvsfe%253D2%2526cvsfhu%253D32363934382d3733363436 I don't know why there link is so giant but whatever there it is. If your looking for something with a fishing logo or theme others might have a better answer for you. Now if your looking for the best backpack you have ever owned probably then this is it. There is a reason this is what our armed forces use. If there is a aafes or post around you they can be found there also. When I copied that link it took up like 10 rows of text. Now on the post it looks consolidated so nm that.
  9. I use a BUGOUT bag I have had since I was in the military. It holds a lot of crap and I could still fit more if I was compelled to do so. It weights so much already I couldn't imagine adding any more. It also has a slot built in for a camelback bladder being a military bag and all. But that's if your into that kind of thing to want to use it or not.
  10. I would say if on some sort of a budget get a good reel and a decent rod not a top of the line one. In the end the reel could last you a life time and you still have a half way decent rod for other applications. On the other hand if you blow your load on a really expensive rod and get a crap reel you will still have the rod forever but once you make upgrades that reel with probably never get fished. If you already have good casting reels in the say $150-250 range IMO those are generally plenty good enough for any fishermen. Then I would drop the money on super nice rods. Also by the way it was me who called them "fairy wands" lol That is just how it feel after throwing huge rods with giant baits for hours. I pick up a rod to throw a chatterbait or pitch a tube or something and I think omg this is like nothing. It's all light and flimsily and feels weird for a minute. I almost forget what I'm doing for a minute. I have to get my feeling back for baby lures. They are just totally different animals
  11. FYI since your looking for used you can check the black market on swimbait underground for all the items you are looking for. You need to specify what hand retrieve you are on the rod though because it is a spiral wrap. There is constantly people selling or trading both Lexas and LDC rod to fund other purchases and things like big big $$$ swimbaits. They have any reel or rod for that matter you would be interested in. It's not a advertisement for them or a knock on BR. It's just the simple fact this site does not deal with that kind of stuff regularly. SU is 100% swimbaits 100% of the time. Lots of those guys hardly even touch fairy wands. They throw the big sticks all day every day.
  12. Reel - Diawa Lexa 300 Rod - Low Down Customs production model M power. 1-5oz but you can throw way over that rating if you needed to. Don't be afraid to wail back on those rods. They will not break. The reel I suppose you can go with whatever you really like. As for the rod a LDC pretty much has no competition in my eyes and for that matter all the serious swimbaiters eyes either.

I absolutely love spooks. In a few weeks I hope there should be some fishing coming to the top and its on. I have a box of spooks and most notably punkers just waiting to get bit.
  14. You may know this already or maybe you don't need this trick but either way. You can make a long cast "try not to backlash" or pull off line and put a piece of tape on the spool. Your backlash won't go past the piece of tape so they should be easier to pull out. If you make a cast and it start to backlash real bad just cut your losses and stop it with your thumb. Letting the bait keep moving while line is bunching up is only going to make it worse if you don't know how to properly feather it out.
  15. What is it that made you go with the Type-R over the normal tatula? They are both excellent reels but did it have some features you wanted that the normal Tatula did not provide? I only really ask because with it being your first setup if Iunderstand correct there is no real significant difference in the 2 except for price. I only say this because that is another $100 you could put towards a amazing rod or another rod/reel for another setup.
  16. Really your pliers don't cut braid? I have had the same ones for like 4 years. They are all rusted now and still cut right through anything. They are not even carbide and still work like a champ.
  17. It's generally a spinning deal. That's not to say you can't use casting gear though. Lighter actions rods with light line are best used on spinning gear.
  18. I do agree that the diawa breaking system is the bees knees. It's just makes sense on why it works so well.
  19. I love my tatulas. They have become my favorite reels to use for there smoothness and casting. I still like my lews for pitching baits just because they are a little smaller and I have become so accustom to palming them over the years. I think they cast so well cause of the breaking system. They are never jerky like my lews sometimes on a hard cast. I think sometimes the pins stick and it causes a little jerk in my rod. It is probably because of dirt but they are still both great reels for smoothness and casting.
  20. I think the nail weight deal with the reverse hook deal is called a neko rig right? I stopped using it for some reason but have had awesome success with it across flats. It's looks pretty sweet wobbling across the bottom.

I use to snag them all the time when I was a kid like 10-12 years old. Intentionally I should add. I guess thinking about it now I was making drop shots with treble hooks and heavy sinkers to snag carp. I cast over them reel it up close to there side and let it rip. Most of the time you just got air and they take off with a giant wake. Sometimes you would just get back a giant scale and even rarer I would actually get a hook in them. Now a days with braided line casting gears and supper sharp hooks I bet I could get them almost every time. Sounds like a fun day actually.... There is tons of 20-30# carp and I know where there is some d**n near 6' long
  22. I seen all these on SU in the Got Em section. Your pretty legendary on there. Nice job and keep it up.
  23. I am really enjoying glide baits right now
  24. I keep used ones separate and real beat up one separate from those. I use mendit for very minor repairs or for fixing the outer layer on swim baits. Any heavy work gets done with a hot knife to melt the plastic back together if the bait it worth saving. Mendit works ok but takes a little to setup and there is no real substitute for actually melting a bait back together. Last year I caught 63 fish on 1 basstrix swimbait just to see of I could do it. I still have the bait and have kept it just because. It is by far the most fish I have ever caught on 1 piece of plastic in my life.
  25. Needle nose pliers for me. They have a flat cutting side so I can put them flush with the eye and cut a knot right off. They cut any line with no problems. I use small ones so they fit in my back pocket and are easier to get way down in a fishes mouth. I think the bigger ones can be a pain to get hooks out if your trying to do it on a dink. Plus they don't fit in my back pocket as nicely. Small ones are just more convenient for me and I always know where they are. Scissors seem pointless to me when pliers do exactly what they do but better IMO plus more.
