  1. How are you getting cut?!?!? What knot are you tying? If it is that hard to pull you are making it to tight before you finally cinch it down.
  2. The strike king have a terrible nose. The screw lock doesn't stay in well at all. The best screw is actually gamakatsu. It doesn't have that center pin so it he better and doesn't core out the nose like other ones such as a owner.
  3. I would for sure pick a crank from group 1. A year or 2 ago I would of picked the jig from 2. Now a days I just can't get away from D-Bombs an tubes.
  4. What I liked most using braid for cranks is the sensitivity. You can feel ever thing your crank is doing. The only thing you can't feel is when a fish pushes it from behind and knocks slack in the line
  5. I am pretty sure the line is about what is best to learn with and not his end game line. My choice for anyone learning would always be braid. You can't ruin it from a backlash and it gives a better feel I think to learn with because it is not smooth like mono.
  6. Hey! That's what I use How did you know?!?! I tell people on here this ^^ but I think it gets ignored. Maybe because a mod recommended it now they might get more attention from up and coming big bait throwers. These rods really can't be beat. Right now there are on sale for only $200. You can go over and under these rods rating all day too with no problem. Just a FYI I guess I will add in a LDC M/H rated 1-5 can throw 1/2oz to 7oz all day. If you really are throwing heavier stuff a ton I would eventually get a heavy but the M/H can handle a huge range of baits.
  7. They didn't always seem to tear so easy. This year it's like there formula is weaker or I am having bad luck with them tearing through really fast. Or on the other hand maybe I was always super lucky for years and now it's catching up to me. I am saying maybe 4 fish and its pretty hit. I had 1 completely pull out on the first strike ever this year. All I got back was a hook with some lead. As much as I would love to use them I don't as much as I did in the past.
  8. A 1/4 oz one works great in shallow water. They are meant to be fished kinda fast and you can get them pretty shallow if you really try.
  9. I reel in some slack and snap my hook set up. It doesn't have to be a hard hook set just a quick snap upwards are you get them.
  10. It will work great with braided line and you drag set right. I do all the time and they work great for other moving baits.!The slow loading really lets fish get it down there mouth. I think I miss less and catch more fish like that.
  11. I like the shads the best. They both catch a ton of fish though. Shads weigh a little more and just catch bigger fish I think.
  12. The ability to break your line with a leader is huge. On the other hand with no leader and depending what you are using you can just bend hooks out and get your lure back.
  13. Weedless Shads are amazing. Throw those or Grass Minnows on a spinning rod and put some split shots on the line and go to work. The little bit of added weight works so much better. This year I think I have gone through like 7 or 8 and all of them pretty much all ripped super fast for some reason. Catch a couple of fish and they pull through so bad even fixing them doesn't even help me much. I am not really digging that lately when using them now.
  14. Unless its a big fish just grab it behind the head. Just grab it quick and firm. They don't even try to flop around like that when you grab them. Plus you shouldn't just lip a bass because you can. Bass thumb can be a real issue tough hands or not
  15. This^^ It's not knowing what a bite feels like. It's knowing what a fish feels like. Its some change in the way your line feels being heavy or slack. Everyone can feel when a fish actually ticks a lure or when your line starts swimming away.
  16. It depends on how heavy the lure is and how I'm casting. Smaller lures don't have much force behind them. I guess I just feather it out with the tip section of my finger. But as they weight increase you need to start using a bigger part of your finger. When throwing something like big swimbaits you really need to get a bunch of thumb on there to control that force behind it. You need to totally thumb big baits right from the start to even be able to cast them.
  17. Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth and a Pflueger President reel.
  18. A Low Down Customs production rod. They are $200+shipping right now. They only make swimbait rod and they are the deal for throwing all big baits.
  19. Just put them flat in some box you have now with some other lures. You don't really need to have big spinnerbait boxes. You could fit a bunch laying flat in any box.
  20. A swimbait of some kind. There is so many different sizes and weights and ways to rig them its incredible. They will always catch fish if you figure out how they want it. They are the most versatile bait hands down. They can be fished in any kind of cover and depth of water at any speed.
  21. I throw spooks over poppers. They cover water better then a popper and get more bites for me because i can keep moving. Poppers are light and are a spinning thing throwing little poppers up close to areas doing a bunch or pops but not moving to far.
  22. They work best for me when I fish them kinda fast. I want to see what it is doing so I can control my twitches and make it move how I want it to. Thats why I like pearl because you can see it really good. If you know where the bait is point you know how to jerk it. It keeps them from darting off are weird like they do sometimes. They are also great fished really fast over mated grass.
  23. Who said seiege breaks? That's is some of the best and strongest mono. I use it all the time. I have 20# on a swimbait rod and it is impossible to break.
  24. For me I would say in a mono copoly type line I would start at 15#. I feel like 12 can overrun a bit easier and is more prone to backlash and thinner line is harder to pick out and manage. Really though I would start with braided line. I don't know why people recommend to start with mono. You can completely destroy mono with a backlash and can't really do that to braid. Also braid doesnt have memory and won't fly off the spool like mono. It is rougher and easier to thumb because you can feel it better IMO. You can backlash braid all day and it will still be fine. Start to get a little overrun on mono or something and it will want to bunch up and spool off the reel and if you are not experienced with a backlash it can be overwhelming. Just my opinion. I taught my brother with braid and after a day of fishing he had it down pretty good. Any backlash he did get was generally minor and can always be picked out without running the line. At the worst case you can always cut your lure off and pull the line back through. There is no backlash that is impossible to get out. I have never cut out a spool of line in my life. Ever
  25. Are they better or equal to a hudd bug? I have never fished either but seen both of them and they look great in the water. I saw the demo of the savage guy using them in the pool at icast and ringing them multiple ways. I am also curious of durability.
