Well I tore it apart and built again. It's getting there, but 1 more refinement is needed.

I was thinking the exact same thing JF without the barrel twist. I was thinking of taking a page out of a Mepps Aglia book and doing what you mentioned and running the tag end back down the sinker, but instead of barrel twisting, just bend the tag at the bottom of the sinker and clip off the excess. See the tag end sticking out of the brass and red lure body? Keep it simple. Thanks for posting your idea. Every litte bit helps. Thanks again.

I think you're right on, JF, about the line tie, but I think I have a solution to that problem. I had about 1/2 hour to work on this before I had to head out the door, so the choice of hooks and whatnot was really what I could get my hands on first. I think I'm at least on the right track and will have to perfect this a little more. Please keep suggesting ideas. This idea was something that popped in my head and I wanted to get it started before it went to the black hole. A-Jay, I will be looking into those hook ideas, I think you're onto something there. I do like the fact of using the worm hook, so I can rig the trailer weedless. Derrick, if you have one, could you post a pic? Thanks for your replies guys. A lot of good ideas here that I like, but like JF says, it's a start. This whole lead ban law really hurts, it takes away a lot of structure/cover specific jigs away from us.

Bluebasser86 is on point, IMHO. C-Rigs is not a great option for this type of lake or the area of the lake your trying to fish. I like the colorado spinnerbait idea and if your into a rocky area, maybe try a football head jig. T-Rigs should get you thru, but in areas where you've lost baits prior, try finessing the bait thru. The worst thing you can do is try and rip a bait thru a known bait eating area. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just finished pulling some of my buzzbaits apart and sprayed the blades. While I was at it, I switched out the aluminum rivet and replaced with it with steel. Ended up soaking the steel ones in salt water...LOL Thanks again, I wish I could tie a buzz on tomorrow!

The past couple of years I've had a tough time getting a fish to bite a buzzbait and it used to be one of my favorite topwater lures. I decided to experiment on a white painted blade this past summer and had some success with it, but do you really think that a finished blade makes a difference as opposed to the standard aluminum finish? I really doubt that the white blade I switched to was the difference.

^^^Funny^^^ You'll actually figure out how to finesse your jigs out of snags (as opposed to ripping them out) the more you fish them from the bank. You'll still lose some, but not as many as you would think once you figure it out.

I'd agree at 5-6 lbs. No matter how heavy it was, it's a fine fish for sure! Congrats on your day!

SirSnook, you're right! My brother-in-laws boat is a blackfin that fish, was a bluefin...210lbs Sorry for the confusion, the cold meds are causing vapor lock...LOL

Nice oinker for sure freebie! I purchased my license online today and hit the water for a couple of hours with my son. We got bites on a chrome black back lipless cranks, but no hook ups. The breeze off the water forced us to leave a little early as my son was getting cold, but It felt great to get out on New Years day. I don't believe I've ever fished in January before! Congrats on your outing!

Try it on one of your LC's first and see how you like the action before you switch them all. It works very well on a spook jr, but the dressed hook I posted won't work on a smaller or lighter dog walker. Smaller and lighter need smaller and less feathers to be effective. The one I posted really snakes on the water. I'm sure you can see that on yours!

IMHO, My preference is down, but I really haven't seen any difference as to how you orient the tail. Up, down or sideways hasn't really matter to the bass I've caught.

Like A-Jay mentioned, some topwater plugs and jerkbaits. I know a lot of peeps don't like it on a dog walker, but I had a ton of success on this one I tied: I never thought about a situation of when not to use a dressed tail on a topwater or a jerkbait. I guess that would be an angler preference?
