I would love to tie into a Musky, believe it or not, we don't have them here in the Bay State. They did introduce Tiger Musky but they don't reproduce and I don't think they are around anymore. Yeah, it seems like you and the other folks are confirming my hunch that the bigger leader is more of a protection for break-offs from toothy critters or rocks where I lose a lot of my jigs. Easy bulldog, construction worker here So you telling me that your leader is not necessarily larger from a breaking strength, (read lb test) but generally thicker for added protection against abrasive conditions (read toothy critters and rock like conditions)?

Alright, not sure why I don't know this, but hey, here we are. I see a lot of guys putting on a lower test braid and using a higher test leader...i.e, 15 lb braid with a 20 lb leader. Why? Is this still considered a 15 lb rig?

I fish a lot of grass, so when I lose a jig it's from something toothy or I transitioned to a small patch of rock...Usually, but not always

Yep @Pat Brown, just finesse it through. A slight pop, pull, shake or whatever will make the jig drop or break free. I’ve learned that once free you can pretty much expect a pick-up. Jigfishn10 was my 2010 year to absorb all there was about jig fishing. I joined here the same year and guys like @Catt, @WRB and a whole host of members were kind enough to stop and post their experiences with a jig.

So sorry for your loss. Perhaps PM Glenn and maybe he could make some exceptions on trying to sell some gear here on the flee market. Fishing gear gets bought at yard or garage sales, maybe you can host a couple? A lot of high schools have fishing clubs you could donate to as well. I know there’s no profit in that but it does go to a worthy cause. Just suggestions. Good luck

I do the same as @Jig Man I mean let’s face it, what’s the life expectancy of a jig? 2 or 3 fishing outings? So it made sense for me to make 40 or so for the season and hope I lose 20ish

I know what you’re looking for @BlakeMolone, but I haven’t seen that blade in a while. Hopefully @Munkin can find one for you. It takes a little effort but you can take the plating off the desired side and polish back up. I did it once and loved the results

I’m finding that I’m less tolerant to cold weather. I got out of the field about 5 years ago and the past 2 or 3 years have been mild winters - for New England anyway. Not sure if those are contributing factors but the other day in 22* with 21 mph winds I replaced a car battery and was not used to that ! How about you, what are you finding out about "As You Get Older"?

Oh, and don't forget to adjust your drag, nothing like hook setting with no resistance. I pulled muscles that day ... yeah, get it out of the way ...

Finally getting back to freshwater fishing after a 5 year hiatus. It's been quite a while but I have no regrets and happy to get back
