Fishing Standing Timber
As far as any specific trees, no, what you do want to look for are limbs that have fallen down around the trees, you might see a pile of limbs that are laying horizontal to the water, but you see a limb that is sticking up at a 45 degree angle, that is the little change in cover that will hold the fish.

Fish Finding Struggles
It does not mean you are in the right or wrong spot, finding bait fish is important, but finding structure that the fish use for their daily commute is more important, concentrate your efforts on creek channels that have cover at or near the back of them, like lay downs or brush piles, the bait fish will use these places to protect themselves from predators, EARLY in the morning the bait fish will leave their cover and group up to travel out of the shallows and find open water. Fish at or near the back of coves around cover EARLY in the mornings, as the sun comes over the horizon, move toward the middle of the coves or channels and start to fish deeper, I like to stay around 20 yards off of the bank and fish parallel as I work out of the coves and channels, but that is not always the case, each body of water will hold different structure from one cove or channel to the next, you have to find what makes that particular part the reason why they use that point of travel, channels that offer feeder creeks are usually my first place to look. Which coves and channels and where to spend time is learned from time on the water, my suggestion is to take a day or two and investigate all of the coves and channels you can, look for areas with as much cover as possible, and look for points that have creek channels close by if at all possible, start EARLY in the morning, if you find a good place that offers a good morning bite, then the evening hours should produce as well, if you find that then you have a great starting point, you can begin to fish the rest of the channel or cove for structure and find the fish.

Disappointed And Getting Frustrated...
Very well said !!! It's those days that you should be most thankful for, if you read the info these great folk's have just provided and learn from it, then nothing was lost at all, you actually gained. Next time your bf starts whimpering just tell him to shut up and keep fishing !! LOL.

Lake Moomaw
It is for the most part clear, as far as cold, I do not know what the water temp is at this current time, it is however wrapped in a blanket of mountains, and most likely going to impress you with the scenery there. The spawn should be happening right about now or it could already be over with all of the warm weather we have had this year. As far as where you put in at, I would suggest the campground side, I have been by the one at the other end of the lake while seeing it by boat, but they say it's a rather narrow road you have to travel to get to it, I am not sure I have never launched from that one. The North end of the lake has some pretty good fishing up toward the bridge, but there are some other great spots as you travel South. From the boat launch that I am referring too, if you stand at the top and look left, that will be North, it will take you toward the bridge that I mentioned, be careful going that direction, it gets shallow in a hurry in several areas, as you come out of there and head South, stay to the right until the lake opens up, once it does, you will see an island off to your right, stay left of the island and it will lead you to the South part of the lake, the waterway will pinch into a narrow passage, there will be about a 150 foot rock wall on your left, and another small island in front of you, stay to your left, NOTE: boats will at times not slow down as they come through there so use caution if there is already a boat fishing or parked there it could get a little tight, once you get toward the back, there are numberous coves that have trees to fish around, these trees are only the tops of them, you will be 15 to 20 yards off of the bank, but in 50 to 75 feet of water. I have seen pods of carp on the suface this time of year, watch out for them too !! It is a great place to visit, I am sure you will love the landscape. Have Fun and be safe !!!

Better Bass Fisher
Thanx !!! I had seen some books with in-fisherman but none were what I was specifically looking for as far as structure and how the bass relate to it, any suggestions on which specific in-fisherman books or are you reffering to all in-fisherman books related to LMB and SMB?

Achieving Silence In Shallow Heavy Grass
Couple of things come to mind, if I know where I want to be, I will put my anchor in the water before I arrive to my spot, I drift in close and slowly let the anchor touch bottom. Even with doing all you can, to be as quiet as you can, you are still going to spook the fish, but giving it enough time the fish will most of the time come back with in the hour. During that time making sure your casts are as quiet as possible, keeping your rod low and casting your bait just off of the surface for the absolute softest landing possible will increase your chances even more.

Broken Rod, Siccsor Mishap, But Still A Good Day.
Looks like a great day to me !!! Congrats !!!, from time to time it is good to get away from your home waters to try new places, ecpecially when what you have does not seem to be working to well, it gives you the chance to explore your baits and techniques on new and different structures and see what the difference is and why it works there and not so well at your home lake.

Structure, if you don't learn anything else, one very wise person on here taught that to me. It holds the key to a lot of great bass fishing.
