Incredible story
Well, there's darned little going on right now to laugh at. Just have to dig a little deeper for the daily chuckle ration.

High speed 7.0.1 ratio (?)
Works just fine for everything. I have a PT "Burner" reel on my deep crankbait rod. No problems; just have to crank it slower.

Incredible story
This is an Incredible story! In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University . On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teen-aged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter could not help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same freaking elephant. This is for everyone who sends me those heart-warming BS stories.

What milk do you drink
Don't drink it. Can't stand it. The smell, taste and texture of it make me do the chunky chuckle.

chuckle of the day
One Sunday, sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a State Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH. He thinks to himself, "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!" So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies two in the front seat and three in the back - wide eyed and white as ghosts. The driver, obviously confused, says to him, "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! I always go exactly the speed limit. What seems to be the problem?" "Ma'am," the officer replies, "you weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers." "Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly! Twenty-two miles an hour!" the old woman says a bit proudly. The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that "22" was the route number, not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error. "But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask . . . Is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep this whole time," the officer asks with concern. "Oh, they'll be all right in a minute officer. We just got off Route 119."

Strike King® Shadalicious Swimbait
I must be doing something wrong. I've tried the weighted hooks, saltwater jigheads, regular EWG hooks with weights attached, swimbait jigheads; and no fish. I can't catch a cold with one of these. I catch a lot of fish on Swim Senkos and Skinny Dippers, rigged on a Shake2 jighead.

Calling all college students.
Back when I took calc courses, the professor held up the 1000 page text and said, "what we have here are two ideas and 998 pages of examples. What you're going to get in a business calc course are the same two ideas, integration and derivation, and a lot fewer examples.

Storing Rods Horizontal
According to Tom Kirkman, of RodBuilder magazine fame, a graphite rod will not take a "set" from prolonged stress. He claims this is a holdover idea from the fiberglass rod era. The old fiberglass rods would develop a permanent bend if left stored, in a bent condition, for extended periods. Graphite rods will not. If you have one of the newer S-glass, or composite rods, you may need to ask him, or the manufacturer.

Need some opinions on a new Bait cast rod
Right in your 120-130 dollar range is a Team Daiwa Light and Tough rod. The 7' medium is about as close to an all around rod as your likely to find. They make two 7' medium L&T rods. You don't want the cheaper of the two. That one is a crankbait rod, and an excellent one for the price. The TL-701-3FB is the one you want. Cheers, GK

What different ways do you guys fish the Reaction Innovations Skinny Dippers?
Try one on an Evo Shake2 jighead. Don't rig it using the post. Thread it on the hook shank; just like you would a grub. Good for swimming, and very good for bottom bouncing.

swimbaits

Strike King® Shadalicious Swimbait
For best results, leave them in the package, and hang it back up where you found it. Then go find some Yamamoto Swim Senkos and Reaction Inovations Skinny Dippers.

"Finesse" Baitcasting Set-up??
Casting lighter, finesse type baits is more about the rod and line than about the reel. I use Daiwa Fuegos, Daiwa Millionaires, Revo STXs, Energy PTs, Johnny Morris, and Pfleuger Summit reels. A "reel" mixed bag. Every one of them will cast 1/8oz baits, when spooled with light line, and most importantly, mounted on the right rod. I could also take any one of them, spool it up with #17 flouro and mount it on one of my muskie sticks. And be unable to cast an 1/8oz bait much past my feet. It's all about balance. Match the bait to the rod. If the rod will not load under the weight of the bait, it's too powerful. Go lighter. Use an appropriate strength line. Why use heavier line then the rod's rating? That makes no sense to me. Sounds like a good way to snap a rod. Finesse to me means smaller baits, in natural colors, presented slowly, and unobtrusively. Bait cast or spinning? Makes no difference. Use whatever you're comfortable with. I use both. My spinning rig is a 7'2" Airrus MH power, fast action rod, rated for 6-15 pound line. It has a very soft tip that turns quickly into some serious backbone. I use a Pfleuger Supreme reel, one spool with 8 and one spool with 6. Both are clear green Trilene XL. My new fav finesse rig is a St Croix LT 6'9" ML-XF with a Revo STX. I use #10 clear green XL on this rig. My old fav baitcasting finesse rig is a BPS Pro Finesse rod, 6'9" ML-F with a JM Sig series reel spooled with the same line. With any of these rigs, I can cast an unweighted Zoom finesse worm farther than I ever need to.

Just how much drag do you need?
Sometimes it does. It has never been a problem. I use light line and sharp hooks. A "geronimo" hookset, with 80 pound braid, a broomstick rod, and a drag set with a pair of pliers is simply NOT necessary. And no fun at all. I also agree totally with SirSnookalot. I've seen a lot of folks who have no idea how to play a fish.

Just how much drag do you need?
I need about three pounds of drag, max.

The Bait Monkey And Me
The monkey made me buy a whole sack full of plastics last week. I stopped at my fav local tackle shop, just to get my license for 2009. They had a very large box on the floor, full of Strike King 3X plastics, for a buck per bag. I spent 80 bucks on worms. Considering how long these things last, I may have just bought a lifetime supply.
