Receiving the card today as there are new 1 ft. contours that now actually will apply to some of the lakes I fish. Anyhow, from what I have read with an HDS gen 2 I cannot add my own community edits but that I can see the additional layer of maps provided by others with Lowrance system. Anyone have much experience with this and any good info?

I would tend to agree- however I have never caught a 19.5 bass under 4#'s. a 19.5 bass weighing even under 3.5 would be emaciated.

Don't forget to change your pb to 4-5... I seriously have a hard time believing a 19.5in fish did not break the 4# mark...even if barely.

If your length is correct than a 19.5 bass can be all of 4.5 plus. based on the picture,(and not the bass in relation to you) the width of the body and width especially near the tail it looks like this would be a fish closer to around 4 or under. Also, the fish is behind you, no way to guess the weight from that- but your length is easy to make certain guesses. congrats on the new PB!

Fish the old bank as if it is now the first "ledge" available when water rising or stable at height, and fish structure away from the original edge as the water retreats.

A few thoughts on this as I started to read the book after reading this thread to see if I could understand it myself. It seems that out of all the variables included in your questionnaire “depth” would be the most difficult to quantify for several different reasons. (yet oddly is only quantifiable) The first; would be part of the human element in that most don’t know the exact depth of the fish. Most are estimates at best and the actual depth could vary several feet in either direction. This can lead to variances in the data pool and would need a large set of data in order to eliminate some of the inaccuracies. Critical and less quantifiable would be the great geographic differences as others have mentioned between different coasts, even different ecosystems within the same area. Variables too numerous to count will change the depth at which the bass are feeding at, water quality, traffic, temperature, clarity, bottom composition, time of year etc. Taking into account that in his book he stated: “…large bass feed primarily in a depth range centering at 8 feet and ranging 5 feet on either side; in other words a 3 to 13 foot depth range.” Pg. 35 BBM If you were to take a large enough data set, such as the whole of Bass Resource data on PB’s, removing outliers and such data such as topwater in 35 ft, spawn in 1 fow, etc. and performed a statistical analysis on the remaining data I am still fairly confident that you would in fact find that the data would fall in that very same depth range of 8 fow with a 5 ft. deviation. While it may be true that most of the big fish come out of these deviations, it does not necessarily mean that the biggest fish of any population will in fact come out of that depth range. In addition, this way of thinking also assumes that everything will fall under this perfect normal distribution/Gaussian distribution since we in fact did remove the outliers which technically are a sub-populations that has been removed since it does not fit the model... but really should very well influence it. I guess long story short- you will need a ton data here and to get the real determination of that data will have to put a ton of work into the statistical analysis of it. I think it would be really neat if Bass Resource was able to collect that data from individual members at signup or by other means as a way of compiling that data for you. There could be data sets available already however- I would think states with great Fishery mgmt. such as Texas may have some available however it may take a bit of research. Also, butter milk. Not bad to drink-strangely satisfying and not just for marinating any longer.

For the last couple weeks with water levels still up, grass has been a major holding areas there I have found as well. Obviously grass is pretty sporadic there for the most part, and only on some parts of the lake. Lately I have been thinking it may be a bottom composition thing, or maybe just a high water thing. I have not really caught them "in the grass", but most of the time it seems like the bass bite with grass nearby. On another note- I did not take a bass rod out on Saturday, and I got blisters catching so many wipers, white bass, drum, and catfish way off shore.

Marina. Paid the yearly fee so I make sure I get all I can get out of that place. Gets pretty stupid some days with clueless people, but sometimes entertaining.

only worm I throw other than the 7" version and always in pumpkinseed. 4/0 hook has always been interchangeable for me and hook ups are great. Best worm out there!

This thread honestly makes me hungry. Taking a few smaller bass for the table from time to time is good conservation. Taking big bass home for the table is not good.

Well...its not going to be Illinois. somewhere in SW TN would be the best as you can fish several states that all have the majority of record sport fish to their name- AR, TN, KY, MS, MO

BPS online does have the ultra soft in 6# in the 600yard spool in clear.

Same size here, and feel like I could have used mine on a swimbait rod for that thing.

How deep was the fish caught? 8-10 fow with around 2-3 feet visibility. Did the lure contain rattles or have hinges? yes- jig w/ rattle. Was the lure a natural color (brown, green) or was it an unnatural color (chartreuse, orange)? yes If possible, what moon phase was your PB caught during? new

Ky bass is all I have seen with red except smallmouth as well.

I eat plenty of LMB- they are easy to filet, no blood line like wipers/stripers. No need to clean hundreds like bluegill or crappie etc. Meat is really light tasting so my wife and daughter like them too. Anyhow, I soak overnight in water, and use simple premade batter to fry...but dip in homemade dill sauce. We also make them into tacos which I prefer highly! The best so far though is to dice potatoes, very thin, lay filets over potatoes, spice, and lay a few pieces of bacon over top of it all. Bake until all are done. If done in the correct proportions then they all come out at the same time perfect.

Proof that branding works. in our area we have huge musky, stripers, flatheads and blues- yet the most popular by far is LMB. Slonezp has the same, plus salmon and trout. All these fish fight harder, and get much bigger than any bass. Some even with indeterminate growth which has always kept adrenalin going.
