Swim Baits
I would start with 1/2 oz bullet heads on 5" flatback shad soft swimbait, and work on swimming it right on bottom. You can throw it on regular bass rods, are inexpensive and wont scare you out of swimbaits. After you start catching big ones go up in size and price.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
More bass at or around the 4# mark and seem to be finally settled in. No big ones again though. Spent most of the day limiting out on wipers and white bass who also seem to be exactly where they are supposed to be. Had what must have been a giant wiper or big striper about spool me on drag before coming undone. I may have to stop bass fishing a bit for the next couple weeks and chase these guys.

Bassmaster Magazine
I find it pretty bad as well, yet still read it when it comes in the mail.

Going Jon Boat Fishing
Don't limit yourself to the bank. Where a life jacket until you get used to casting in the jon.

Does Getting Skunked Bother You?
I am the opposite actually. By myself I usually am big bait/big fish fishing and can go without a fish. When I have someone with me and somehow we get skunked I am mad as I was supposed to put them on fish.

Stop Swallowing My Bait!
I have lost some smaller ones, but have been lucky on a few bigger ones it happened to.

Bait Ball Crank From Icast
I am not all that fascinated by it- but if they made a really big suspending deep diving jerk bait I am sure I would give it a try.

Stinky Bass?
I would think it is a product of its environment especially in smaller bodies of water, but also happens on larger ones. metal smells from iron, copper, etc are noticeable on fish, same with sulfur which you would know as the rotten egg smell. Any dissolved particulates in the water in enough quantity could be noticeable on fish. Could be simple as decaying plant material that could cause an off smell as well. or....it could always be an upper lip problem...

Oil Reservoir
That was my thought as well- I did not really need the dipstick as I typically take off the entire cowling anyhow when I do anything, and can see my oil levels that way. My concern though was with if it would interfere with the flow of oil. I cannot seem to find diagram or anything that really shows how all the parts interacted within the reservoir. thanks again for your input.

Bull Shad Vs Bbz-1 Shad
Both will work, but both have completely different profiles and are two very different lures.

Oil Reservoir
Went to fill up the tank on a 75hp optimax and the dipstick attached to the handle has broken off into the reservoir...anyone else have this happen and will I need to replace the entire tank? I really don't think there will be a way to get it out, as the angle at the top of the spout does not allow me to stick anything in to pull it out..

Bull Shad Vs Bbz-1 Shad
I would agree with this as well...but yeah staying out of that spat altogether as well.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
It was about half the size on the other size, and perfectly cylindrical as well but by the spiny 1st dorsal fins, almost too perfect actually. Really looked bad though. Hopefully just a heron like you say. I did not see anything live on it, but did pick them off with pliers from some of the bass. Mouths were incredibly bloody from the different parts it had been attached to. I was more curious on what they may be...and then realized once I got the pliers on it. Edit- we do have a handful of bald eagles nearby as well...so that could be another option.

Bull Shad Vs Bbz-1 Shad
Huge difference in the two at all levels but both are good. they both will weigh about the same, swim differently, etc. Major difference would be the profile. The question you are asking would be similar to "should I use a plastic worm or jig..." Both will catch you fish, but are very different.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
channel cat with what looks like the same, but larger leech marks found in several bass mouths as well.
