  1. I’ll use what I need to get bit regardless of what it is. If I’ve had success with something and I lose it, I’ll tie another. If you fish to catch fish, what are we talking about??? Mike
  2. Thank You so much for your kind offer! Mike
  3. Other than for 2 presentations that I use braid for, all other combo are flouro. I never use leaders or mono for anything. Mike
  4. If I remember right when I first started using them that was a minor issue. Just bring it in, squeeze and cast again. No big deal. But as @Jaderose said, It’s not a problem anymore and hasn’t been for years. Honestly, even if it did it wouldn’t matter. Mike
  5. As I’ve said on here many times the original (grn/pepper) is my go to, be all frog. I’ve been using them almost since they came out in the ‘90’s. I’ll use the Trophy Series once in awhile but there’s nothing sold that has the hook up ratio that the little one has. One of biggest advantage of them is their consistency. They are virtually unchanged for the 20+ yrs they’ve been on the market, plus of course is their softness. No need to touch the hooks. Once they get it, they got it. Mike
  6. I’ve been saying that for years! Mike
  7. Ditto.,. I have a few rods with the same style and don’t mind it at all. Placed on the rod where it is, or lower is where you want the keeper If you use rod covers.
  8. Great Job!! Mike
  9. As others have said you can’t “convince” them to eat. They have no interest to actively eat at this time. There are tiggers to look for and try to exploit but they won’t be force fed. Sometimes you just have to move on. I always seek bedding bass during the spawn so believe me when I tell you There is no magic bullet. Mike
  10. Sometime in the early 60’s when I didn’t want to go fishing with Dad. Mike
  11. I just write it on a piece of paper and leave it in my bag. If I forget, I look at it. Mike
  12. What makes this site so popular is the quality and unselfishness of its members. Given his experience, knowledge and achievements Tom is certainly one of the best I’ve ever come across. Very few anglers are as accomplished as he is. His skill is unquestioned. Tom demands respect because he’s earned it. I’m sure he would agree, the knowledge, accomplishments and skill level of some other anglers who frequently post here is also unmatched Mike
  13. On this Memorial Day I thought I’d start a thread giving us a chance to honor and remember our family members who died defending our freedom. If you choose, you can honor them by saying their name, where and when they gave their... Last Full Measure of Devotion Uncle Jim...SSGT, 101st Airborne Div. Normandy France... June 6, 1944
  14. Great job! I gotta get over there one of these days!! Mike
  15. 50# Use some cheap mono for backing and you’re done Mike
  16. If it lands between pads I always let it sit a few seconds and walk it in place if the pads are really close together. pull it to another and work it back. If they are spread out a little farther I’ll do the same without trying to walk it in place. Also, once in a while I’ll rip it across an open area hard to make as much commotion as it can. Stop, let it sit, twitch a few times before walking. That rip, stop, twitch, and walk back has been my go to retrieve for years. If they’re anywhere near and hit it then, they seem to blast it with more intensity which helps with hook ups. I only use Scum frogs. Mike
  17. @Boomstick I bought a Siera 735 MagHeavy and it’s darn near perfect for a frog. A little slower action which helps for a quick trigger and all the backbone you need. Well a month ago I broke 3” of the end off!! I sent it back and let the guys at Dobyns talk me into a 701 Kaden to replace it....It’s alright. A lot faster than the Sierra but an excellent frog rod also if you want a faster action. It’s also a lot more sensitive than the Siera which makes for a better heavy cover rod. I also have a 15yr old Lizard Dragger which was my go to for all that time but wanted to upgrade. Now I use the Lizard dragger just for Carolina rigs and the Kaden fir frogs and heavy cover t rig’s and back up punch rod. But I do miss that Siera Mike
  18. InVisX and Sniper are 2 premium lines that can be used for most all presentations, just a small difference between the two. I suggest you try either one of those first. Once you spool Tatsu you won’t want anything else. You get what you pay for Mike
  19. Hopefully one day we won’t need to be reminded to remember May God Bless them all. Mike
  20. I assume since you’re talking about a heavy action rod, and if the primary use is for frogs, 50# would be sufficient. If for flipping and/or pitching in heavy cover or punching, I suggest a minimum of #65 Mike
  21. The only time I’ll keep using the same bait and just change color, is for short strikes and followers. But I don’t spend much time doing it. Mike
  22. Gotta respect a man who has his priorities straight. ? Mike
  23. If we decide to take a longer road trip (which Mrs Mike always wants to do) I may ask you for a few names and numbers if you don’t mind. Mike
