  1. Thank You! In my area there is one small private tackle shop, Bass Pro and Walmart. I did a market analysis about 3 years ago and found 80% of the 200 angler I interviewed order from Tackle warehouse. The reason given was they don't like bass pro and the local shop really on deals with walleye, pike and musky. There is no real bass tackle shop in the area. I find it strange because the fishing scene is booming and the biggest fishing community in Ohio. My research shown that a bass tackle shop could survive but like you stated there are low profit margins for small businesses.
  2. If this post is against the rules please delete. I was shopping around on Lockett Lures and noticed that they have an offer to help people start their own Online Business. Starting my own tackle store has been a dream of mine my entire life (Even went to college for small business ownership and management). To the people that have researched this before or anyone that has business knowledge, is this a good deal or just a ploy to get more money out of customers? My business plan originally was to start with an online business and work my way to storefront.
  3. I use VMC and the Fletcher Shryock signature trebles. If a bait already comes with these then I don't change unless they are dull or broken.
  4. ^^^^This^^^^^ I have never had a problem with any of my Smoke Reels. I would send it to DVT and let him take a look at it before I gave up on the Smoke. The Smoke and Exo are my go to reels I'll give you $25 for it right now.
  5. I have the regular Tatula on mine and they still seem a little tip heavy but nothing real noticeable. I put the Tatula on a Duckett Ghost and it was the most tip heavy rod I have ever felt in my life. But all in all I think he J2 balances well for a $100 rod
  6. I own multiple J2s as well as the older Jadewood, I do not own any Dobyns rods so I can't say anything about them. J2s are a little tip heavy but I found they balance well with most Diawa reels. Also When I fish cranks, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits I fish tip down. They are sensitive and you will for sure feel bites with them. At $100 they are great rods but now that Denali is discontinuing them the current $90 and some places even $75 you can't beat that deal.
  7. Only frogs I throw I love the Spittn wa in the early morning or even and the Bully Wa 2 I will throw all day.
  8. I personally wouldn't understand a move. Strike King is one of the best bait companies on the market. I love my Nitro Boat (Best Value of all bass boats IMO). Quantum I think gets over shadowed by other companies, It is still a leader in rods and reels and makes a solid product when it comes to high end gear like the Smoke and Exo. I think moving to Shimano and G Loomis would be a sideways move. Only time I see him changing sponsors is if there is a new up and coming company that he like. I heard that 13 made a push for him when they arrived but couldn't throw enough cash his way to get him to bite.
  9. Not to get off topic but I have several Med HMG rods that feel like Med Light rod I would hate to see use the Aetos if it is worse.
  10. I currently fish co angler and these are the 6 I normally take along 6' 9" Med Casting 7' Med Casting 6"10 Med Hvy Casting 7'3" Med Hvy Casting 7'3" or 7' 6" Hvy Casting 6' 9" Med Spinning.
  11. My only confusion is like most of you have said you have 20+ combos but only really use 5-7. I cant see spending $400-$500 on combos that will just sit in my locker. Do you keep less expensive combos in the locker and have those 5-7 you mostly use be more top end?
  12. I just jumped from Spangler to boater. My question is when it comes to combos how many do you use? I've been on boats were guys have 40 combos rigged and I've seen guys with 5 rigged. I Currently have 10 but want to get a couple more. What is pros and cons of so many combos?
  13. I heard there was discussion about a gen 2 Exo but that they could but the same technology into the new smoke reels and eliminate the Exo line completely.
  14. I think this year will be packed with top notch new reels. The new Smoke, Abu's new revos, I heard Lews is announcing new reels this year and so is 13.
  15. If it performs better than the gen 3 i will happy again.
  16. Gen 2 STX is still by far my favorite reel to use. I was using all Revos exclusively since they were introduced. They had a massive following. But the poor performance of the gen 3 has lost their following, myself included. A little birdie told me that the Gen 4s will be released at iCast coming up and performance will be on par with the gen 2 with the lightness and sleek design of the Gen 3. I hope this is true because I miss using good Revos.
  17. I must say Pflueger President for sure.
  18. I'm opposite. I am a lefty and use RH reels. That way my dominate hand is setting the hook and my other hand is just reeling. That would be the same as a righty using a LH reel. I tried the whole cast and switch hands and don't understand why people do it.
  19. I started on mono and was fine. But I have found Braid to be easier than mono. Whatever you do don't start on Co-Poly that line still gives me nightmares sometime.
  20. A Gen 4 Revo is all I hope for,
  21. I think i am going to pick up the M1 and a recon.
  22. It'll double as a Spinnerbait and Jig rod.
  23. I am in the market for a new rod and have it narrowed down to these to rods. Which one is better? I am looking for light weight, sensitivity, balancing and comfort.
