Close bail manually?
When I retired and got into bass fishing 19 years ago, our daughter gifted me with a day on the Potomac with a popular river guide and all I had was two spinning outfits at the time. After about two casts he turned to me and said, "take my advice and close the bail by hand and it will save you problems down the road". He didn't expound on why, but I figured he knows a lot more than I so I have always done it.

fake line?
I would guess one would take notice when you see a 500 yd spool of line for $5.98 LOL.

JackHammer - Alternative
My alternative is the plain old Original Elite series. I am lovin' the big 5/0 hook on that thing.

Worm Gear?
I have only ever used ReelX on my worm gears. But this another subject like do you like coke or Pepsi

Swivels...preference? Solving Line Twist
I rarely use swivels except on a spinning rod for flukes and then it is a Sampo. A rare use for me so I don't mind the expense and they last forever.

Norman Fat Boy
I am with you and fish the Fat Boy in fire tiger on the murky Potomac. A really great bait.

Suffix advance
I have the 14lb Advance on a Curado 200I and currently use for a jig and pig. Works well so far, but we are just getting into the season and spawn on the Potomac. Oops, I had a brain hiccup, Not a jig and pig, but a swim jig and it works very well.

starting battery
Sorry to hear you say that about Interstate. I only have to crank a 60hp, and had a size 24, 800CCA on it for nine years before it gave it up this spring. I do pull the battery in the winter and keep it on a tender with a desulfinater all winter. The Interstate dealer could not believe it when I turned it in for a new one. It also runs two sonars.

Livewell plugs
Have you tried a transom plug?

My Day on the Potomac
Well, the only thing that went well for us was the wind, which did not kick up until 1400 or so. I had my school teacher daughter with me and she loves the Chic, so off we went. Arrived in the back to find five other boats and hauled water with them for about an hour. We were all checking each other out, and we were all only hauling water, so one by one the crowd departed. The water was 69 and not really muddy, but pretty dingy. I threw everything on the deck and nada. At noon we went to her second favorite place, the Mattawoman. I peeled off on the way and in and we hit the cove on the right side where their is a ton of wood laying in the water and nada again. Left there and went to Grinders to hit the big flat. Tried everything again in the dingy water with the majority of time dragging plastics on the bottom. No even a peck. At 1400 we gave up and went in. No grass anywhere.

Hey Shimano fans, I got a question
The TT organization has given the Shimano SLX an excellent rating for the price.
-
Shimano chronarch mgl sideplate
Do you see the tiny unlock glide switch on the side I hope? Once in the unlock position just a gentle twist and it should come right off.
-
Chatter trailer...
Not saying the caffeine is better than a fluke as a chatter trailer, but just fished weightless Texas rigged. It is heavy enough to cast by it self weightless. I always have one on a bait caster in baby bass.

Hey Shimano fans, I got a question
First, would you define the "low end six reels" you referred to. With regard to the Sahara I will find out how it goes next week with a new Sahara 3000XG. I have the Curado 100 B,Curado 50E, Curado 200E7, Citica 200E Curado 70, Curado 200I, Curado 200K Chronarch 150 and a Chronarch MGL and each are incredible reels in their own category. I have never even considered the Citica 200 E a low end reel ( but I confess I have it pretty spiffed up now).

Spinnerbait blade type and color selection?
There is a fella here who fishes the Potomac and claims that after years of experimenting, he has found the kicker combination. A small gold Colorado on the back and a bright red Colorado on the front. I could not resist, so next week I am going to try it and see if they jump in the boat..

Cleaning Oxidized Lead Sinkers ?
Or switch to tungsten.
-
swivels
If I am tubing on a bait caster, no swivel with a 3/16 slip sinker. If on a spinning rod like a fluke, line from reel, tiny swivel,18" line to hook with a 3/16 slip sinker..

Favorite spring baits for LMB's
Red Baby 1-, Red/firetiger lipless, tubes greenpumpkin gold fleck, Black/blue chatterbait, gold Colorado spinnerbaits

Cleaning Oxidized Lead Sinkers ?
And then cover them with an oil based bass scent and it will not happen again.

Catching fish deep during spring?
At least on the Potomac, I look for flats adjacent to deeper water because they warm quickly under the sun and whether they are spawning, getting ready, or just roaming around in the warmer water it seems to be where they will be in general.

Reel maintenance
I have been servicing my own reels for 15 years and decided early on to use the oil and grease developed which works for reel maintenance. In my case it is Yellow Rocket Fuel on SS bearings, ReelX on bait cast worm gears and crank shaft bearings and either Cal's drag grease , or Shimano ACE2 drag grease on gears. Another good gear grease is SuperLube, or Yamaha Blue Marine Grease. This is something where every angler doing their own reels, or reel cleaning services, has their own favorite reel lubricants, but they will rarely be general purpose lubricants like Mobil 10-30W ??
