Rod Deck tie Downs?
??TheRodFather, man, you broke the code. This is exactly what I was looking for and exactly what the mice ate, but I do not know where in the heck I bought them, but am now suspecting it was at dearly departed Boater's World and boy do I miss them. Thanks again. I have already ordered two.

Rod Deck tie Downs?
Looks hand to have a round, but not sure I could figure how to secure to the deck.

Hours on a motor
Amen, it all depends on well it have been maintained. Like asking if a car with 60-70,000 is finished.

straight shank hooks
Not at all. There numerous anglers who use straight shank hooks with their worms, curly taii and plain. Consider a slip sinker in lieu of a screw in and you will find less congestion at the hook tie and it gives you the same results. If you want your weight tight to the worm, just peg, or bobber stop the slip sinker to hold it in place. I am sure others will have a different take on this. My personal preference is a an EWG hook.

Rod Deck tie Downs?
Anyone come up with a decent rubber, or poly rod tie down that doesn't pull apart after 6 months? I don't have room for fancy retractable strap arrangements. I had two really good rubber types for years and last winter the mice invaded my boat (outdoor storage) and ate through them and I had them for so many years I cannot remember where the heck I bought them. In looking around it appears they are all poly now and pull apart in short order.

Carrot Stix are back
About 7 years ago I bought a 7' medium Carrot Stick Wild at Gander on a close out for $70 even though I had only heard bad things about their rods (but $70?) and it has been an incredible rod with no problems. It is really, really light with the progressive smaller line guides to the tip. Turned out to be $70 well spent.

Cork handle restoration
Love that Elmer's Golden Oak on cork and I sanded mine after with 220 grit. I found the best way to sand was to put the rod on an open back chair with the handle to the front, then it on it and sand it with 220 strips as if you were shining a shoe between your legs. It does not take a lot of sanding and gives you good control.

Seaguar Smackdown is Trash
Wow! Looks like a picture of a piece of binder twine.

Soft frogs on bottom
Wouldn't it take more than a 3/16th slip sinker to get and keep a ribbit on the bottom? Like maybe 1/2oz? I really don't know, just food for thought.

Using cover scent
Let me add that I read an article by a bass pro sometime ago and his position on scents is that they do not attract bites, but sure keeps them hanging on longer for a hook set.

Rigging a 5” Super Fluke
Mine go out on spinning gear, 8lb mono to tiny swivel, 18” of same mono line to 4/0 EWG in the super fluke.

Using cover scent
Another good one is Smelly Jelly in Bass Feast. After rubbing that on baits the bass love you. Cabelas used to sell it.

Any trick to reuse a bobber stop?
Last year I began using the 6th Sense itty bitty rubber bobber stoppers and they have worked really well for "pegging" slip sinkers. If a hook/bait change is needed they slide up the line easily and reposition effectively.

Best Backup Plan for Backlashes...???
I am with Toxic, I just pull out another rod and keep on truckin'. Deal with it at home.

3/16 vs 1/4 shaky head
No problem choosing a weight for me on the Potomac, always moving and really fast with an outgoing tide. A 1/4oz keeps it pretty much where I want it to stay in most locations out the main current.

Cranking reel
I would also recommend you look at the Shimano SLC before you purchase. The reel has received really good reviews, starting with TT upon its introduction to the market last year ($100). I have not seen a negative comment anywhere by an owner.

Livewell Drain Plug When Not Using Livewell
I had a crack at the point of attachment to my live well pump a few years ago and went nuts trying to find how water was always in my bilge. As it turned out it was the pump inlet that was cracked. New pump, no more water in bilge.

Worms
And hose them down with a little Jack's Juice Garlic spray and they are good to go.

Shimano SLX review
My experience with Shimano design for the last 19 years has been they do a lot with fewer bearings. None of mine back to the Curado 100B have bearings on the worm gear for instance, and I cannot say I miss that. I am now up to the Chronarch MGL.

Has anyone installed one of these?
Are sure it is not coming over the transom? I know if I am rough water and not careful in shutting done from speed, I will get a little water over the transom in the bilge. And it really comes over in rough water if I goose it too much in reverse.

How to gauge when to start braid from mono backing?
Recommend you get a line counter. It takes the guess work out of spooling. They are inexpensive and I have found it to be a huge time saver in spooling on new line.

Scale to weigh fish
I picked up a simple analog scale in WalMart, as I recall under $10. Just the plain old spring needle white face indicator dial about 4" in diameter.. I don't know how it would test for accuracy, but I do not tournament fish and I only serves to satisfy that I really have a 5 pounder LOL. It did come with the typical metal hook and I swapped it out for a small plastic grip shop clamp. It works great.

Trolling motor HELP, barely spins
I hear ya. I learned long ago to pull the TM prop during post outing checks. Amazing what you find at times. Although my new 55lb variable speed MG has a far superior shielded prop housing than my old MG 43. That old TM was always loaded with junk.
