What’s a good baitcasting rod/reel setup for newbie?
Got to Tackle Trap get a MegaBass rod on sale for 180-200. What $$ left get a Tatula CT I looked at Tackle Trap, MegaBass owners would the Tour Versitile work for him or too powerful??? This is description "Ideally suited for casting and pitching jigs and worms, the Tour Versatile is also made to handle big spinnerbaits, crank baits, frogs and even some swimbaits. “This is a stiffer, faster action rod that is great for 6 - 7 in. worms on a Texas-rig. It is also good for small Carolina rigs, soft jerk baits and 4 - 5 in. wacky-rigged stick baits. This is a very versatile rod, and is a good choice almost anytime you are using 12 to 20 lb line for everything up to the size of smaller soft plastic swimbaits.” - Aaron Martens

Why on earth would anyone spend $400 on a bass rod?
A person might ask if he would use those rods if he didn't benefit financially or not sponsored by Okuma. I could see him pimping lightning rods if the pay was right.

Here ya go, its to get the spool lighter less rotational mass and start up inertia. This to allow a baitcaster to throw a 1/16oz lure 40' 1/32" instead of just a measly 40' you know like the TackleTour aficionados.- Shimano/G. Loomis Conquest review....
Those style hooks interfere with the skirt flow/movement I've seen it in the clear waters I fish that alone bugs me. Even worse if using Hydras. Also that spring rips the skirt off and can leave a chunk of the body with it at times. That's just my assessment from trying them out.- Shimano/G. Loomis Conquest review....
Owner hooks are the worst I have used with ikas miss way too many good bites, wont use them. Gamakutsu Deep Throat 4/0 is my go to hook. Power wise I have used MLXF LTB with braid and no issues with hooksets. I mostly use M\F rods Okuma Quantum St Croix. I just dont want a too powerful rod that wont load well casting the ika.- Braid for topwater
- Long vs Short Rods?
My short rod is a 6'9" ML/XF CroixLTB it is the worst feeling tip heavy rod I use. I have a 7'6" MH/F Fenwick and an Avid 8' ML/M that feel lighter better balanced in hand so its not just the length that determines how a rod will feel. My lightest rod a 7' M/F is also one of my best balanced rods so being lightweight doesnt mean tip heavy like most seem to think that light equates to tip heavy. I actually prefer longer rod from the banks on the waters I fish. I can better reach over and around bank brush piles and limbs overhanging than a foot and a half shorter rod. The increased distance has definitely caught me more fish as well.- Shimano/G. Loomis Conquest review....
How would the Conquest 903 do throwing Fat Ikas? I see its rated a Medium Heavy Fast 1/4-3/4oz. Would the Ika at around .384 oz load the rod well? I have a Fenwick World Class 7'6" MH/F 3/8-1 oz and its too powerful does not load well with Ikas. Also been thinking about the NRX893 could you compare the 903 to the 893 please?- Favorite Way To Fish Ned Rig ?
Ive given the ned a fair shake and have not gotten great results either. Used a number of colors and weights retrieves lines and water is pretty clear 10+ visibility. The only thing I havent done is try it on other waters. I pretty much have used it on my "home" lake but that is where it should produce the best. I havent been skunked there in a good 11 years.- The latest sale thread

With the TatSV Id say more control easier casting than finesse oriented. The TatSV spool isnt all that light plus holds a fair amount of line 2 things that arent good to have for lighter presentations. A senko though isnt a lightweight presentation.- upgrading from tatula ct.. SV version or curado k or other?
If you are looking at Tatula SV and throwing wacky rigged senko my opinion NO. A wacky 5"senko is in my top 3 of presentations and I have not been pleased with the distance. T rig senko I rarely toss and havent on a TatSV but generally a T rig will cast a little farther.- Any video game players?
