Internet tough guys

Recommended Posts

Have any of you ever had any problems with internet tough guys that led to actual violence? I have a guy that harasses me to no end on a hunting website and I am sick of it. I live in Ok and he lives in La, I will be there from Fri through Mon this weekend and I have already offered to meet up and "discuss" our differences. I guess I am just old school, but I wouldn't say anything on the internet that I wouldn't say to someones face. My wife thinks it is stupid but I am ready to beat this guy to a pulp.

Seriously? With all the nutjobs in this world you're thinking about meeting up to "discuss" your differences of opinions with one of them? It's too easy to block people on the internet or just ignore them to get worked up about it. If the dude is making comments you're seriously concerned about then report it to the site admin, you should have all the evidence in writing for them, or take it a step further and call the local PD from where the guy lives to go talk to him if he's making personal threats. I would not, under any circumstances, meet with someone I was having issues with online to try to work out my differences, there is no good that will come of it.

Totally agree!

You won't "win" a thing. At best you would make a real enemy of someone you sought out and confronted when you can just move on.

At worst..Well You get my point.

Being "old school" doesn't mean purposely walking into a situation where the circumstances could be something you're not prepared for.

Block him or move on..

The world is a different place than when you went to school.

With all due respect," they met up to discuss their differences" sounds like the beginning of a news article that does not end well. I love a saying from the movie War Games " sometimes the only way to win is just not to play.

If stupidity, immaturity, hate, pain, infidelity, distrust, or violence finds you suddenly and without warning and you are forced to react to it then you will undoubtedly question how it occurred and, justifiably, try to find the reason why and struggle to figure out how it could have been avoided and how you can avoid it in the future.

If you go looking for it then you only need to look in the mirror to find the source of your trouble.

How do I know this?  Years ago while lamenting some serious personal issues day after day to a very good friend he finally had enough and said something that helped me change a lot of what I need to change.  He said, "Hey man, grab a mirror".  Good friend right there.

Don't do it, not a good idea. You never know what this guy might be toting, hard to whip a 38. You really have nothing to gain that I can see, let it go.

My grandfather told me a version of this story when I was little its a little long but worth the read...

One day, two monks set out for a temple in a valley beyond the woods. While cutting a pathway through the woods, they came across a choppy stream they needed to cross. There, stood by the bank of the stream, was a beautiful young maiden dressed in silk. She was clearly at a loss as to how to cross without getting muddy and wet.

So, without thinking twice, the elder monk gestured to pick her up. Shocked, she obliged. He put her over his shoulder and waded across to the other side. The younger monk, dismayed and uneasy at what he had witnessed, followed in tow.

Upon reaching the other side of the bank, the elder monk put the maiden down gently. The maiden paid her respects and walked on. The monks then continued on their way to the temple.

As they navigated through the forest, the younger monk, still troubled by what he’d seen, asked, “How could you do that? We aren’t even supposed to make eye contact with women, let alone pick them up and carry them!”

Without a thought, the elder monk turned to the younger monk and said, “Oh, are you still carrying her?  I put her down when I reached the other side of the stream”.

And with that, the elder monk turned and continued leading the way through the forest, leaving the younger monk to contemplate his words for the remainder of the journey.

Also “A wise man told me don’t argue with fools. Cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who.”

Do not waste your time with the internet tough guys. They tend to spend a large portion of their pathetic lives online and are very weak, both physically and mentally. Many of them carry a gun or will group up on you if you decide to meet this internet tough guy in person. Ignore him and start spending more of your time with those who are your real friends and loved ones. Life is too short to waste it on people who do not deserve your time.

I always hated that song, but it has a strong message.

Thanks guys, I agree, not a good idea. I just think some people only say things because they know nothing will be done about it.

The problem with meeting to settle your differences in this day and age is anyone actually willing to meet up with someone is going to be armed, I know I would be. So upon meeting you either talk it out and settle things peacefully or someone gets shot.

You're right though, 99% of people who are instigators online wouldn't dare say it to your face.

Another "let it go" vote here.

My wife works in the psych field and tells me the

people she sees enter the emergency facility for

mental treatment are "everyday folks" who simply

forgot to take their meds, or whatever. But most

are psychotic. The point here is they are what we

would consider "everyday people", not at all

obvious they have mental issues.

You never know what kind of person you are angry

at while driving, or on the web, etc. Best to keep

distance for own safety.

Just a bad idea in general, to engage these folks.
