  1. Are your weedguards already glued together at the base? If so, make the jig holes a little larger, I do it before I paint, and that way they glide in the holes more easily. Also, just a little dab of glue, and when you get the weedguard in the hole, you should be able to, with a little pressure, spin it to get the glue all the way around the guard and make sure the extra width of the hole has glue all around to keep it in there! Just how I do it! Jeff
  2. With 8 lb line, those fish over 3.5lbs should pull a little drag if they are not coming right at you. If not maybe your drag is set to tight and that is causing the shock and line break! When I say a little, I don't mean running all the way around the pond, but maybe a couple feet at a time! Jeff
  3. Congrats and very nice write-up! Jeff
  4. Middle CA for the next drinking trip, errrr I mean Road trip!! Jeff
  5. Looking good man! Keep it up! Jeff
  6. Congrats on the fish and getting your hooks back! What pound line are you using? Might either be your line, or drag setting. Jeff
  7. RLR, you have a years advance notice. No new projects, be there and we are fishing together one day! Jeff
  8. Congrats on the fatty! Jeff
  9. I treid to tell you young grasshopper. LOL. They are a bit of an addiction. But very affective ALL YEAR LONG, and that is why they are tops on my list! Jeff
  10. I tell you what! Next years Road Trip is gonna be awesome, and I think you should come! NO EXCUSES!! Jeff

  13. I'll second the motion! Jeff
  14. I would say the majority of the people here are pleasure fishermen/women. While there are some that are tournament anglers, and some like myself who are pleasure fishermen first and only fish charity tournaments! Jeff
  15. Although the "bigger fish hit later in the day" statement is true for myself, my 2 biggest fish of the year so far have been caught at the exact same time...9:03. I hit the water early, 5ish and fish till about noon-1, when it is hot and all day when it is not. First part of the morning seeing the "other" wildlife and hearing the noises is what it is all about. Just this month I have seen deer, racoons, squirrels, an owl and a bobcat all in the mornings while fishing. Plus the best topwater action is before first light. Here is a bass caught on my first cast..... flash didn't even work well enough.... Besides, getting there early helps you figure out the pattern that way you have em dialed in by the time "the bigguns start to bite! Jeff
  16. RLR, I am coming to help you "investigate" this pond and see what is in it! Jeff
  17. There are a million different variations to try, but easy and reliable I recommend the palomar knot. Jeff
  18. I'm with you on that one. Jigs get retired when I lose them, hooks are dead, or a toothy critter gets one. Jeff
  19. I dipped from the age of 16-23 almost 24. My dip of choice was Skoal (started with cherry, then went to mint, wintergreen, berry and then pouches). I quit cold turkey on New Years Day. I had gotten to the point where it was disgusting and I didn't want to do it anymore. I was dipping a can a day, EASY. Quitting was a good thing, not only for the health benefits, but for the wallet. My main physical problem was chronic heartburn and acid reflux. Fast forward 4 years. The exact next trip after catching my pb (March 30, 2011) I stuck a hog bigger than my pb. She came jumping out of the water several times, and I had her on a jig, so I knew she was mine. WRONG. She jumped and threw my jig back at me like nobody's business. I got so mad, I got a pouch(Grizzly Wintergreen) from my fishing partner. All it took was one and I was hooked again. Dipped those pouches for 10 months or so and quit cold turkey again. This time I am making it stick. My same health problems had come back up, and now they are gone again. it is a hard thing, and you mus want to do it for you, not someone else. I still fish with that same guy, for over 3 years now at least 3 of the 4 Sundays a month, and he still dips. It is VERY HARD. But you have to not want it anymore. Not that I couldn't lick a can of skoal off the dirt beside the boat ramp, because I could. I'm done. And if I have a moment of weakness again, I will quit again. But I do not plan on it. Jeff
  20. I have no clue what you are talking about........... Jeff
  21. I stick to just solid colors, as I tie my jigs for myself and friends. I think that fancy paint is just for show and to catch the fishermen. 95% of my jig heads are black, brown or olive. Jeff
  22. Hey Dinky, you been catching anything good lately? Anything PLUMP? Jeff
  23. Sears should be able to get one for you or maybe have one in stock. Shipping to the store should be free. Jeff
  24. No I meant you are prettier than he is! LOL You obviously are well grounded as well! Jeff
