  1. Agree with Avid 100 %. I have upgraded the bearings of all my reels by now, there is no one that hasn't have a noticeable casting improvement. At the same time I can't noticed any difference between ABEC 5 and ABEC 7. From this site you can get decent ceramic 5s for $18.00 a set. http://www.smoothdrag.com/price.html Like reelmechanic said, a critical part is removing that pin, with a pin intact b/c you want it back, and w/o damaging the spool shaft. This is my version of a pin remover, I made it copying the idea from other post and adapting it to my lack of proper power tools.. It took me no more than 1/2 h. With a Craftsman mini flat tip pliers and with a medium file cut a corner of the plier that would face the pin, in 1/4 x 1/8 ". I covered with electric tape for extra protection. Also be careful when you remove and replace the bearing's retainer, it does fly. I still do mine inside a plastic bag. Hope it helps
  2. It is hard to say it. The PT rods are great, I don't have any but I've done plenty of fishing with my partner's I think that the Accurist PT is one of the best for hard fishing conditions in close cover or anyway pitch/flip is intense. Like anything else....take what you like and feel comfortable with. The quality is there
  3. I use both of them, great lures. If I want a smaller profile lure I go with the Jackall Muscle Deep or Z-Bait Z-75

    MS Slammer and Mattlure's gill
  5. Nope....I just refuse treatment, I want to be kill by tackle poison ;D
  6. I use the same.....for DS I add a fluoro leader.
  7. I agree with RW, if for any reasons you want to increase your crank's weight, there are other ways much more effective. I change hooks pretty much as need. Rat-L-Traps is one of the few I change while still in the box.
  8. We have a lot of them in NJ. > I don't care what language they speak as long as they respect the laws.
  9. Very good choices....best luck
  10. You don't need to tie at all.
  11. I'm glad....I'm running in low cork sealer and Reel Scrubber.
  12. Very good point I have a couple of customs that came with it and I have done it myself to a few other....works great.
  13. Also Rapala DTs and Shad Rap RS
  14. Strike King Denny Brauer Premier and Bitsy flipinn'...Eakin's Flip'n getting close
  15. I have 2 Energy 861, 2 Accurists and a Tour ( sold now ) and also 4 PT-i spinnings, they are good reels and I have never got any trouble of any kind with them, one negative thing is their weight, they are way heavier that any other competitors. I bought mine before the ABU Revo came out, today I think they will be my choice over the Quantums in that price range. Best luck
  16. Like Raul said, there is no baitcaster backlash free, a well educated thump can make a big difference with any reel. I have the 301 which I use for my heaviest swimbaits, I have it heavily in use for the last couple of years, the reel is a work horse, cast like a dream and is very light, the frame has a tendency to scratch easily. It gets much better after you upgrade the ball bearing, drag washers and a good 4 bearings handle. Now you are asking for jig fishing, this for me means pitching so I would rather use a faster reel. Best luck.
  17. Congrats, it is a great rod, good luck with it
  18. I don't completely undertand your question....Rocket Fuel oil is very thin and designed for high rated ball bearings, really has not advantage anywhere else, for fresh water baitcaster you want the Yellow, as ultra thin oil it doesn't last much, so you have to re-oil frecuently, I have to do mine at least 3 times a month. Rem oil is very good for guns but much thicker than reel oils. Like the other guys do....no grease on expoused parts but there are people that perfer it, i tried and didn't like the mess. I use Shimano ( reelmechanic ) oil for every thing that need oil but spool support bearing. Good luck

I can get them down to at least 15 f. consistently and often deeper, up to 20 f. if I can make a long cast. Fluoro line and Storm dots help a lot. One of my favorite together with the DT16.

They work in NJ. Try the MS Slammer 7" or any Mattlures
  21. I moved to 1/2 gal. Zip-Lock bags
  22. i don't have one. I use a lot the Hardcore Drums, Rat-L-Traps ( agree hooks are horrible ) and LC LV series.
  23. Like Avid and RW said....St. Croix starts differentiating from the rest of the crap with the Avid series.
  24. Agree, it is not the best Shimano has come with.
