  1. No, I don't know of a bass over 3 pounds that I've ever caught on a fluke. It's right there close to a C-rig as one of my least favorite baits to fish.
  2. True! My favorite is the one where it stays in the package and I don't have to fish it...?
  3. Good luck! I put in my request to go for a few hours after work with the "boss" last night and my request got approved so I'll be giving it a try for a few hours this morning also. Haven't done any of the short, after work trips since all this started. I feel guilty leaving her at home with the boys knowing she's been home with them non-stop for so long and I'm her only source of any relief.
  4. I check mine often. It's become much more of a habit since a lot of our lakes have zebra mussels now. Even that doesn't always save me though.
  5. You'd hate fishing here. I've caught 3 dozen of them in a trip on lures before. The state stocks so many channel cats in very lake, it's insane. Fun to catch, but frustrating when you're not targeting them.
  6. I didn't like the Avid X I had either. The guides are weird and it just didn't feel like the quality of rod I was expecting. Had a 7' 3" Kastking Speed Demon Pro "Jig and Worm" rod I bought to be used as such. Rod was way too light. Probably would have made a good weightless senko, but even a finesse jig caused the tip to flex noticeably. Wasn't that the rod was bad, just not what I was hoping for.

Use barbless hooks so when it happens, it comes right back out.
  8. I use a lot of Eagle Claw hooks, especially their EWG worm hooks. I think a lot of guys still view them as a cheap, poor quality hook, but they're not anymore. Their black platinum line of hooks are really nice and quite a bit cheaper than other premium hooks.
  9. I sight fished my first frog fish of the year this year as it sat motionless between a bunch of dead lily pad stems. Not how I expected to catch one but I would have never caught it if I hadn't been looking for them. Same day I saw some shad scatter in the middle of the lake and fired a cast at them with a bladed jig and caught one. They never busted on them, just saw the baitfish flying and knew what it meant. I'm always watching and listening for clues.
  10. The Horny Toad was, and probably still in some areas, a really popular bait for flipping into cover with a pegged weight. Bulky and a lot of action from the tails as it buzzes down to the bottom.
  11. Sounds like you're using it on spinning gear, and in that case 20# would be way too heavy for bass sized spinning gear. 8lb is about the heaviest fluoro I'd use on a spinning reel. Even on casting gear, a lot of 20lb flouro is difficult to manage. IMO, 15-17 pound is about the sweet spot for heavy fluoro on casting gear for all but the heaviest presentations.
  12. I've had several break from normal use. Most are just reeling the bait, bumping through rocks, and my bait feels like it disappears. When I reel in I have a bill left, that's it. I broke one when the wind caught it and blew it into the rocks on the cast, can't blame the bait for that one. They're great fish catchers, just bought several when they were on sale at BPS for $5. Weird thing is I've got one that has been about unbreakable, a hot mustard DT6. Hoping my new batch will be more like that one.
  13. That's why I tried it, so when I go through my 30 or so bags of Lime-Purple Passion Pit Bosses, I'll have my next option for imitating baby gills.
  14. Healthy trout don't sulk along the bottom. Injured or sick ones however, they will limp slowly along the bottom shortly before they go belly up. You don't see those trout/baitfish because they don't last long. I'm right there with you though, they're not a fun bait to fish but they do tend to produce the very largest fish.
  15. No problem on both accounts. The bait still has a good swim to it. I've had no problem getting fish to eat the remelts.
  16. I have a very similar style mold. Top pour, silicone, 7" mold that makes a very functional bait. I was doing the same as you intend to do, melting old plastics. You're basically going to get a very limited selection of colors, green pumpkin, brown, and blackish/blue mainly. I made line thru baits with ink cartridges from pens at first, then started buying the inserts to make them line thru baits online.
  17. It's blueish greenish with flakes of both. If you're trying to imitate a juvenile bluegill, it's an excellent color. I had a day last fall they were eating a Rodent in that color like they'd never seen a bait before.
  18. Dead serious, kills bad breath and fights fishy fingers.
  19. Buffalo are a native fish, nothing to be concerned about. They will eat a variety of things off the bottom, not too different from a standard carp. Shrimp is probably a little out of the ordinary, but not terribly surprising.
  20. Not sure how well it will function, but I made my 6 year old a mini bladed jig. It's a 1/0 hook on a 1/8oz head and micro blade. Color scheme is one of my most popular and blue is his favorite color so that part was easy. Next to one of my standard 3/8oz baits for scale.
  21. Almost all of them. Exceptions are Berkley, Duo Realis, Spro and Megabass. Duo and Berkley are the only ones I have very many of though.
  22. I don't think those hooks are manufactured. I believe those hooks are being bent by someone into those odd angles, which is going to severely weaken an already thin wire hook. Even if they're not, those sharp angles aren't going to be real great at keeping a fish pinned. Tacklewarehouse literally has a whole page devoted to Ned rig accessories though. Lots of offset and weedguard "Ned" heads listed. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Ned_Rig_Fishing/catpage-NEDRIGFISH.html I bought 15 of these off FB. Not really a Ned rig head with a 1/8oz head and 2/0 hook, I just want them for something like a finesse shakyhead.
