  1. Wife took me out for birthday dinner at a BBQ place I'd never been to that was supposed to have great BBQ nachos, I was not disappointed. They come out on a 9x13 pan, so they don't skimp on serving size either. I couldn't finish them.
  2. Easiest way to tell imo, wipers have defined stripes below the lateral line that run from the back of the gills to the tail, white bass do not. You can check the tooth patch too but that's pretty sketchy. I had several very good trips to Melvern last year, couple 50+ fish days on guide trips with fish up to 4 pounds. Mostly Ned rig, ploppers, and jerkbaits. This was about a week before it really broke loose last spring when I was getting a feel for what they were doing for a guide trip the next week. I caught a couple dozen but the father and son I took the next week really hammered them with me.
  3. I've got a blue Megajaws I use for jerkbaits. It's been an great reel all winter paired with a Speed Demon Pro jerkbait rod. It fits my hands really well, was easy to setup, and really cast a jerkbait a long ways with ease.
  4. YUM remade them maybe a decade ago, they didn't work any better than the original and were quickly discontinued. You can still find them on Ebay though.
  5. Wow that's a beautiful fish! I've been fishing since January and you caught as many smallmouth as I've caught all year in those 2 pictures ?
  6. Brush hog. Used to be a YUM Sooie but unfortunately they discontinued it.
  7. Saw some on beds the last week or so. I don't really care to fish for them and to me, beds just mean that harder fishing is soon to come.
  8. Guys that mushroom hunt where they're bad duct tape their pants to their boots and wrap it around their waist and wrist to keep them from getting access to their skin. Might seem extreme but I know a couple people who have gotten Lyme disease, it doesn't seem that unreasonable when you see someone go through all that goes with that.
  9. Congrats on the great day! There's not any wipers in Melvern though, just big white bass.
  10. As long as you aren't affiliated you can. I buy several types of plastic from them.
  11. I don't believe so but like mentioned BASS used to do some pretty big ones there a long time ago.
  12. He pours his own, which isn't something you're allowed to post on the forum, which is why he's sending PM's
  13. Catching them in 2-6 feet of water with a slow, steady retrieve, they're absolutely crushing them. I took a bunch of pictures of them and had a hard time finding a picture with more than the jighead sticking out of the fish's mouth. Most of them needed pliers to get the bait back and looked more like this.
  14. I was just left scratching my head on the Chief's selections, hopefully they did better than I think they did. Everyone is really excited they got a 325lb DL that can do a backflip, like that has anything at all to do with being able to play football ?
  15. What happens if you gain/lose weight? We were starting to think they weren't coming back, but all sudden there were 2 of these guys zipping around the feeders today.
  16. I'm a Chiefs fan, as difficult as it is most of the time. By all accounts of the management, Hill has been on the straight and narrow and basically a choirboy since he was drafted (which obviously is not the case, you don't just suddenly say the things he said). The woman he choked and punched when he was in college agreed to marry him, which gives the impression he had changed (obviously she was probably being swayed by the fact he was on the verge of getting a huge payday as well). As with any group, you have to realize that not everyone within the group has the same views, and this has been no different the entire time he's been here. There's lots of people who love him because he's fast and can catch a ball, and there's a lot of people who realize he's also a terrible human being who should be in jail, not waiting to find out if he'll be suspended or looking for another team or not. I frequent a Chiefs forum where it seems a majority of people are wondering why he's still on the team, and these are rabid fans who haven't had a Superbowl in their entire lives and are/were probably as close as ever with the team now with Hill on it, so there's plenty of folks who realize what the right thing to do is regardless of how it's going to impact the team. He's almost certainly going to get kicked off the Chief's, but IMO, should also be banned from the NFL because this is his second instance of domestic violence (whether it's been proven or not, it's pretty clear he's been doing it). They really need to take a stand on domestic abuse and this seems like a perfect chance to make an example. The NFL needs to stop letting guys continue to play just because they're good. They also need to ban players because it's not fair to the teams who have to cut the player or face the backlash, just so another team can pick them up as soon as they're eligible. At the very least, the team picking them up should be penalized a draft pick or something. Every team has it happen to them, it's a bunch of testosterone fueled young men who feel like they're on top of the world I'm sure, it's just a matter of time before some of them make dumb choices.
  17. My dad and I finally got a day on the water and he's been craving fish, so I did like a good son and put him on some dinner (and a whole bunch of other fish that were released).
  18. Bass Assassin Tiny Shad Assassin, Bobby Garland Baby Shad and Slab Slay'R, Strike King Crappie Joker are my favorite crappie baits. I catch more crappie on Ned Rigs and Jerkbaits than anything though.
  19. I watched my uncle cut one out, they're a real thing. Maybe like a pearl in a oyster in that not every one has them? My uncle prefers them and gar over about anything, but he's a bit of a strange individual so take that for what it's worth. Lots of folks around here eat them though. The bigger ones mainly eat fish and craws, so it makes sense they'd be decent eating fish.
  20. Finally got a day on the water with my old man this year. He's been craving fish and it's been killing him to hear about all the 'eyes and crappie I've been turning loose, so we went and got him some. An excellent example of selective harvest, he kept what he needed for a couple meals of fresh fish and we turned everything loose the rest of the day (and there was ALOT more turned loose throughout the day).
  21. Not sure how big of tournament you want to include to be part of the list, but for the bigger tournaments you've got Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, the Great Lakes, Minnetonka, and Oahe are the few that I can think of.
  22. I have one, not quite that large, but the 30 size, and it's been excellent. I've used it for a wide variety of baits and techniques and it's done everything I've needed it to.
  23. I have 2 of these rods, one that I've used for frogging for a few years now, it's the best frog rod I've ever owned. Has a soft enough tip to load well to really fling them out there, but a ton of backbone to drive the hooks home and haul them out.
  24. Optimum Baby Line Thurs have been much more durable than Osprey for me. They're not as nice looking, but they catch fish really well and last much better.
