I would if I still had a good place to pick up crawlers, I'm not paying the $4 a dozen they want for them now. #6 Octopus hook, 4lb test on a light action rod and either no weight or very small split shot. It catches everything but even big bass can't resist a worm because of how easy they are to catch with minimal effort. I'm not too proud to catch a bass on live bait, still have to put it where they live and present it right. The guides on Table Rock use them on a drop shot during the heat of the summer when the bite gets tough.

One of the last tournaments I won was WAY up a creek while everyone else was on the struggle bus looking for fish that didn't want to play on the main lake. Doubled everyone else's weights despite fishing poorly and losing a few big ones.

Spotted bass supposedly can compete with largemouth and effect the max size potential, but I haven't really seen it be a problem in lakes they coexist here. Big largemouth eat white bass, and white bass are mainly offshore fish except when the water is cooler and their small mouths only allow them to feed on smaller baitfish, so they're not an issue.

I usually just tie mine to the bend of a jighead. Any cheap, frayed rope will do as long as there is plenty of thin strands to tangle on the gar's teeth. I've had moderate success catching them on suspending jerkbaits using a pull/pause retrieve, but hookups are usually short lived. Live bait or cut bait gets tons of bites, but again hook ups are the issue.

I too enjoy getting up the creeks in search of those less pressured fish.

I have a KVD cranking rod that is really nice. Only other Quantum I own is the older Energy PT spinning reel like FishTank posted above that I bought for my wife to match the holographic guides on her Avid Pearl spinning rod. She really likes it and it's still functioning well, but it gets used maybe a half dozen times a year. I had one of the blue Tour Edition PT baitcasters, but the big, mean Mexican bass I bought it to catch killed the thing after 2 or 3 days. I think the lack of marketing combined with past QC issues has made things difficult for them.

The Sox are in cheat mode, cruising in most games, winning games they shouldn't, but that's what good teams do. Just have to hope they didn't get too hot too early.

Savage Gear is going to be coming out with a similar bait soon I believe. Theirs is going to be a line thru I'm pretty sure.

I carry 4 of these, 2 pre-rigged with grippers and 2 spares. Amazingly accurate and have been pretty durable. They don't like getting wet, but they've come back to life every time after taking them apart and allowing them to dry if dunked.

Is it public land? Likely not an option if it is. Also make sure you know your plants if you start hacking away, the gel like liquid from poison ivy plants gets everywhere and will make you itch for weeks. The large fish I caught after work last week was from a tiny pond in the middle of the woods surrounded by trees. Short rod, free spooled reel, sidearm or underhand pitches and flips. Shorts and shoes you don't mind getting wet are a good idea too.

Sounds like ground hornets. I stepped on a nest night fishing one time. Thought I got shot or bit by a copperhead or something when those first couple hit my ankle and back of my calf.

X2 on these guys channels, They do at least 1 a week with lots of great up to date information to point you in the right direction. Start early, fish late, night fish even if you are up to it.Better bite and less traffic.

Tough time of year to be out there if it starts to cool off, fish will start to scatter out a lot. Most of the fish being caught right now are deep but seem to be biting well on the usual stuff, drop shot, jig, spoon, swimbait, plopper or walking baits in the mornings. Lots of good roll off points to fish in Indian. You can run south a ways to Cleavinger, I usually do well in there. If you haven't already, I'd highly suggest looking at Ozarkanglers Table Rock forum, tons of good lake specific info there and reports almost daily, often from that portion of the lake.

I'd go with a bigger worm for them for sure. The 9" T mac is just a longer version of the standard T mac, no thicker or anything. I like the YUM Mighty worm, 10.5" and as big around as a Sharpie makes it more attractive to those offshore fish. I pour my own standup football shakyheads with a 7/0 hook to use with them. I prefer to just drag them along the bottom, counting rocks.

Went to my parents house Friday night to hang out on the patio for awhile. Dad likes to play his guitar and sing and my wife loves to sing so that's what they were doing. Both Lake and Finn had to make sure Papa was playing right.

I actually saw one with a crankbait hanging from it's nose once. Made me wonder if someone overcast and it saw the lure moving on the shoreline or if it had just walked into it while hunting craws or something.

They're impossible to take a good picture of by yourself it seems like unless you set a camera up with a timer, which is tough in a kayak Had a guide trip Friday, mostly for bass and wipers, but the youngest of the 3 generations of men had never caught many catfish and none much larger than a pound and was really interested in catching one when I mentioned how easily we could catch them. When dad and grandpa were ready to go I asked for 5 minutes to get the boy his catfish, I don't think we used half that time. Bass fishing for catfish with a chunk of gizzard shad, weightless with a 1/0 kahle hook, it never touched bottom and it took off and hit the end of the line so hard I'm pretty sure it hooked itself. He wasn't ready to go after that.

Had 3 generations on the boat Friday at Yates Center. Caught largemouth, a surprise smallmouth, green sunfish, a wiper, a white bass, a walleye, and a couple channel cats. Lots of action on the 3.5" YUM Pulse swimbait again.
