  1. I think it would depend what your definition of good fishing is. If it's catching tons of fish, then I can't imagine he would think it was very good. If it's catching a really big fish, I don't think you could be in a better place.
  2. I had a guy in a marina yell at me because my trolling motor prop was "A danger to the dock cables!" That's right, my plastic trolling motor prop was going to slice that giant braided steel cable capable of supporting several tons of docks and boats, like a hot knife through butter. I suppose he viewed it as a straw that broke the camel's back situation. Apparently, all the ski boats and cruisers with big inboards and stainless steel props weren't an issue though If I've learned anything from my job, don't try to argue with those people, you'll just end up frustrated no matter how right you were, and they'll walk away puffed up because they clearly won the argument.
  3. I've been using a 4.8 Keitech Fat lately and having very good success. Not only have I been catching bigger fish with the large trailer, but the fish are eating it deeper as well.
  4. Only if you're doing it right!
  5. Our site sponsor Kastking has some very affordable reels you might look at. I just got my new Spartacus Plus in the mail today, and they're less than $50.
  6. I've been fishing mostly a homemade stupid tube head, 1/8oz with a 3/0 hook and 3.5" tubes. Throwing them on a 7' M/F LTB, Daiwa Zillion SV XXH and 15lb Tatsu. This is the only setup I've found to combat zebra mussels very effectively.
  7. Bladed jigs work for me in all water colors and most any condition, but stained to dirty water and especially around weeds is when they really excel. They've all but replaced squarebill crankbaits in my boat. It's been close to a month since I even got my cranking rod out of the box. I fish them with a slow, steady retrieve for the most part. I like bulky trailers to allow me to slow them down even more.
  8. That has been a killer punch bait for me, but we don't need to talk about it
  9. Bulky trailers like a craw have more water resistance so they will cause a bait to rise. I like to use a Havoc Pit Boss or Rage Menace on mine. Lately I've been having a lot of success with a 5" swimbait on the back too.
  10. I'll have several rods rigged and on the deck so I can "switch" to a different bait for just a cast or two and then pick something else back up. I'm a junk fisherman, so I do that a lot. How often I move depends on if I'm getting bit or not. No reason to move around if they're still biting in one area.
  11. I carry maybe 2 dozen tungsten weights, all flipping weights in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, and 1oz, with a majority being the 3 smaller sizes.
  12. Sight fished a good Ned fish yesterday.
  13. A buff and sun protective shirts. Always thought they'd been unbearably hot to wear, but it's actually the opposite.
  14. I pulled a hook out of a bass' throat Monday that had been there so long it was starting to rust out. The fish was healthy and fought hard, obviously not hurting from the hook in it's throat. I was able to remove it easily, I'm guessing she wrapped someone up under the dock I caught her out from.
  15. I flipped my bait at a "stump" Monday, and the danged thing swam away! Turns out it was a big grass carp laying motionless on the bottom.
  16. I don't think I've ever been fishing where I wasn't thinking about my next trip on the drive home.
  17. Mine has been going with me since she was 4 months old. Now she's 5 and goes with me almost every trip. She's even the team mascot during tournaments. Her first encounter with a bass.
  18. We have tons of coyotes that howl like crazy pretty much every night. Some mornings I'll hear turkey gobbling and it's pretty common to hear quail whistling for their buddy Bob White. Sure beats the trains and cars I used to have to listen to all the time.
  19. The permit can be bought at the marina I believe. I bought mine at the marina on Longview. It was worth it to me, I wish I could still fish Jacomo. Lots of places to kayak on the KS side, never done any kayak fishing on the MO side. James A. Reed would be perfect if they allowed it. Belcher Branch would probably be a pretty good bet up north a little ways.
  20. It requires specialized equipment to melt and pour.
