  1. Their Megabass 110 KO is a very good bait that I've caught lots of fish with. Both of our local Academys have a hard time keeping the good colors in stock in fact.
  2. I second the Savage Gear line throughs, either the 8" or the 6". They are very realistic and have a great swimming action when you do retrieve them.
  3. Brush jigs are my favorite all around jigs.

What kind of hooks does he use? Good deal unless he uses cheap, bronze hooks. Get some black powder paint from Harbor Freight and just paint all your heads black, goes with about any jig skirt color you'd want and will help keep price down even more since you can buy a pound for less than 2 ounces of other powder paints.
  5. My heaviest limit of buzzbait bass was caught in April.
  6. Havoc Pit Boss or Rage Menace rigged sideways, 2/3 of a 5" stick O or 1/2 a trick worm, Havoc Grass Pig Jr or Beat Shad. Picked up some of the new YUM swimming Dingers to try next time I throw one and I have some Zman Diesel Minnowz to try as well.
  7. Swimbaits don't work, senkos are all you need
  8. I've seen a lot of sunning fish during these very warm days myself. Haven't had a chance to fish for them much but they do just seem to be soaking up the sun instead of feeding, pretty frustrating!
  9. Braid is awful in freezing temps. I fish all winter long and once the guides start icing up, the rods with braid stay in the rod locker.
  10. I mainly skip jigs with a baitcaster. I don't have a favorite rod/reel/line, just use whichever I'm using that day.
  11. It's a toss up for me. Personally, I think the smallie would pull longer than the spot would so at the end of the day I guess I'd take the smallmouth.

    Welcome!
  13. Spring through fall, especially around spots or smallmouth.
  14. Get some aluminum pliers. I have some from Academy that are a couple years old and still just like knew. They have replaceable titanium cutters on them that cut braid (and any other line), like a hot knife through butter.
  15. I have the Ethos rod and really like it, especially for the $40 I paid for it.
  16. I just bought over 30 bags of YUM baits I didn't need from Academy because they were $.48, it happens to everyone.
  17. A heavy swimbait doesn't have to be moving very fast to bury a sharp hook into you. They're heavy enough to hit wither a lot of force, even at slow speeds. One day I'll remember to crimp my barbs down.
  18. My high end Garmins read 47-51 at Gardner Wednesday. Seemed high to me but the little Hummingbird in the console was getting 53 everywhere and I'd hope they're accurate for what they cost! Fish were surprisingly inactive for those water temps though.
  19. Get some cheap hooks and bend the point into the plastic or cut the point off.
  20. I haven't been disappointed by any of their products I've tried yet.
  21. There's a place down by Truman Lake/Clinton area that's supposed to be really good.
  22. Good baits
  23. If we had someone with those signs at work they'd be on suicide watch, your friend needs professional help.
