  1. Pretty much everything you need to know about getting started fishing a jig right here. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12403-jig-fishing-questions/ If you can't find it there, ask it there so future bassers that may have the same question can find the answer easier.
  2. I had to start making my own, but no 1/16, just 3/32 and 1/8.
  3. I'll happily try one. The 10XD is just a bit larger than I'm willing to fish and dives a bit too deep for a majority of our lakes. Really glad to see it comes in the green gizzard shad color.
  4. Should make a great rod for pitching weeds too (assuming you'll have braid on the rod). My frog rod does that double duty very well. Assuming you probably fish a lot of the same lakes I do that are ringed with water willow, I think you'll find it works very well.
  5. Often referred to as "mulberry hatches" by the guys that flyrod for carp. Only rod I ever lost to a fish was doing what you were doing for carp. Flipped a berry out under and tree, set my rod down to wash the berry juice off my fingers, clunk, rod was airborne.
  6. Sunline Defier Armilo is a very nice line, but costly. I'd highly recommend it but it doesn't come in a large spool that I'm aware of. In the bulk spools I like Big Game, Stren Hi Impact, and Mustad Ultra Line.
  7. I would consider upgrading your spinning rod first. Not that there's anything wrong with an Ugly Stick, it's just there's much better rods for bass fishing and you don't even have to spend much more. I'd suggest a 7-7'6" MH/F for jigs and T rigs with a 7ish ratio reel.
  8. The TRD is tiny to rig on a shakyhead. I like the shakyhead for lots of bites, but I'd just go with a regular finesse worm or trick worm.
  9. This one appears to be a Lucky Craft Flash minnow. Got them both. I picked up a bunch of those live pointers for cheap when they discontinued them, wow were they junk. I couldn't hardly give them away.
  10. I'm going to guess that the guy with the heaviest weight at the end is going to win the thing.
  11. I'm all for keeping it cheap. I'm not leaving my boat on the water at night and it's a short drive from Eureka to the lake. Like I said though, I really don't care either way.
  12. Yeah, working midnights then fishing all day and staying awake for close to 30 hours every Thursday probably isn't the best idea but I can sleep when I'm dead right?
  13. It's a little bit of both. His obvious enthusiasm for it cracks me up every time and like most things that a toddler does for entertainment, it only entertains him for a few minutes, then it's on to the next thing! I'd much rather listen to him playing his drums than listen to another episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  14. May 19th is what I found.
  15. That's what it's looking like right now, at least that's what the majority has voted on thus far. I think some pictures he saw on the interwebs might have swayed the BA's feelings as well.
  16. Assuming you mean the inflatable variety with those prices. I have a BPS manual PFD that is very comfortable and I got it on sale for well under $100. I've had the high end Mustang auto inflating ones also. Nice concept, but they suck if you fish in rain very often. After I had to buy 3 rearming kits ($30 a pop), I sold it and bought the BPS one.
  17. Looking forward to getting to feel some of these. I know their top of the line are just that, top of the line, but well out of my and the average angler's price range.
  18. All the way until the "ton of wood" part. You'll get bit, but good luck getting them out. Not a fan of the round head and certainly wouldn't advise fishing it on an ultralight.
  19. They're spool spacers I believe.
  20. Last one I had was a 110 magnum (nearly $30 a bait). The bill just fell off during the retrieve at Table Rock (clear water so I'm 100% sure it never hit a thing). Never touched anything on the cast or the retrieve, I just went to twitch it and it popped to the surface. I assumed I'd caught my front hook on the line, I wish that's all it was. I can't buy a $25 bait that mysteriously falls apart. If I smack a rock on a cast and break it, fine, I'll eat that one for bad cast, but falling apart doing what I'm supposed to do with it?
  21. Therman's looks like it could would work as long as we can leave the boats hooked up and block some of their parking lot. As small as it is, we might about have the place rented out anyways. Joy looks like it would be a tight area to try to get turned around with a boat. I could really care less and I'm sure I've stayed in worse than anything there. I'll let Jon tell the story about the "cabin" (see also-tool shed/big dog house) we stayed in at the White River in Arkansas a few years ago that or the place that had dirt floors with pallets to stand on that the wife and I stayed in at LOZ a few years ago, I'll never live that one down.
  22. Anyone have any suggestions for lodging at Beaver in Eureka? I posted a question on another forum for suggestions from guys that live in the area. Seems that lodging isn't an issue, but finding a place with room to park a boat without unhooking and power hookups is about impossible. The 2 places that were suggested to me that seem like viable options are; http://www.riverviewcabinsandcanoes.com/contact.html http://www.spidercreek.com/ Both near the lake and actually on the banks of the White River for anyone interested in trout fishing while they're there as well. I emailed Riverview about cabin rates, they look more like economy cabins than spider creek but it wasn't terrible as long as we have the cabins filled to capacity. I was also warned about extremely clear water and potentially tough fishing towards the dam so we might have to look at trailering being an option again for anyone that doesn't want to fish gin clear water. Spider Creek also has RV hookups with 50amp power hookups for $45 a night if anyone has an RV capable of pulling a boat or if someone just wants to pull/drive one down there that's big enough to sleep a few people and split cost that way or even pitch a tent on the pad.
