  1. I bought a Deps Bullshooter Jr and another Slide Swimmer 175 this past week
  2. What features are you looking for and what size/type of water are you fishing? My last boat was a 16' Lowe Roughneck that served me very well for several years, although it was not well setup for bass fishing. The Bass Pro Grizzly is very similar and comes in the size you're looking for and is very affordable even if you buy brand new.
  3. I was also a fan of the MHM Premier cranking rod before my buddy broke it for me.
  4. Haven't made a decision yet, but it will be either Grand or Beaver.
  5. Some, but not all. One of my most productive middle of the day buzzbait lakes you can see bottom in 10-20 feet of water year round and watch fish come up and eat the bait off the surface. Might give it a try sometime, I didn't think it would work either.
  6. $5.99 at our stores for the Jerk Shad and it is a terrific bait for the money, just like every other Academy bait it seems.
  7. Making a mistake there, black or black and blue buzzbaits or bladed jigs are some of my best big fish baits, even in the middle of the day and especially if it's cloudy. It produces a big, solid profile that attracts big fish. All on a 3/8 black on black Cavitron in afternoon. same buzzbait, late morning Black and blue bladed jig, middle of the day. same bladed jig, same time.
  8. Yes, I use black at least 90% of the time, sunny, cloudy, windy, calm, clear, rainy, clear water, stained water, dirty water, doesn't matter.
  9. I fish black at least 90% of the time.
  10. On the rare occasion I target carp I usually opt for light tackle and 6 pound test. Hook a 10-30 pound carp on that gear and you're truly in for a test of your gear and fish fighting skill. Smallmouth in a river are about the hardest pulling bass I've caught, but there's lots of other, harder fighting fish out there.
  11. Any of you guys interested in doing the weekly meet ups, shoot me a text or PM so I can get you details.

  13. No particular reason other than that's where we fished last time and did really well. Close access to the rivers and main lake and it seems like the bigger bass and stripers are caught towards that end. I've also heard the area around the dam is loaded with smallies and I'll be able to run a bit further now so it really doesn't matter to me.
  14. It's just as good as the black on black, I just go with the black on black to keep it simple. You won't be disappointed, first time I fished a Cavitron I had a 20+ pound limit on nothing else.
  15. For years? I was under the impression that they've only been around for 4 or 5 years and really launched when Biffle won on Ft. Gibson with them? If that's the case, you guys missed the boat on an early retirement!
  16. The one I caught on my 8" hit it on the fall and took off like I was fishing a Senko! Was really expecting a bigger fish when she did that. I was in a pit that drops almost straight down to 20+ feet of water so I was waiting for it to hit bottom when she grabbed it. It's still awesome to get to say I've caught an 8" Hudd fish in Kansas though.
  17. You can get them longer but mine is 18'. I don't fish much deeper than that and if I am it's usually with a jig or shakyhead that I'm not worried about losing. If you're replacing that rope you better go with something like paracord, 80lb braid is going to leave you disappointed I'm thinking.
  18. Trout pit for sure is the main one. There's a pit also in unit 30 that's straight south of the Trout pit that has monsters in it. I had one full on eat a 12-13 inch bass I was fighting in on a jerkbait one spring. The small bass had the bait crossways and all the hooks in it's face so nothing to stick that monster with. Eventually she got tired of playing with that little fish, spit it out and sank out of sight. It was without a doubt a DD fish, and probably pushing state record size. The big pit in 41 has some monsters in it, probably mostly thanks to the monster shad that live in that one along with the overall size of the pit. I'm sure you're well aware that none of them give up fish easily though, so you have to work hard for them.
  19. Homemade bread is something everyone should get to try once. Wonder if there's a candle out there that smells like fresh baked bread??
  20. Shop around, I spent just a tad more than what you're top end is on mine.
  21. I fished the BASS weekend series for one season as a non-boater. Hated their rule that the non-boater got the boaters weight added to their total?? Made no sense to me and cost me a win at LOZ, ended up in 5th because my boater only put 3 keepers in the boat. Made it to the regional at Patoka in Indiana, if I never see that lake again I could die happy. I caught 3 bass in 2 days, 1 keeper, missed the cut by about a pound. 10 pounds won the non-boater side over 3 days of fishing, the guy caught 2 5 pounders, only 2 fish he caught in 3 days.
  22. It gets used pretty often, but I forget about them and grab my DD pointers first it seems.
  23. Baby Rage Craws or YUM Craw Papis, both killer smallmouth baits on a shakyhead.
  24. Every one I've ever owned got the main blade tossed when a fish jumped. Good baits otherwise but it's a hard problem to correct because it's so hard to bend titanium.
  25. Cavitron is all I use. You might check out the Ghost Minnow color for really clear water. Honestly, I've had great success in water with >10' visibility with my old stand by black on black cavitron.
