  1. Welcome!
  2. Most likely they would be in or near drops into those deeper areas in the winter months.
  3. They were killing a jig, and every one was 12" or less.
  4. It's a bobber stop to protect my knot in all that wood.
  5. I really don't enjoy fishing strip pits, but the scenery is pretty great sometimes, (have to click on the pic so it doesn't look like it was taken with a potato ?)
  6. When trying to determine if a strip pit has big bass or not, a good indicator to look at is when you flip a jig into a sweet looking brushpile, and instead of a big bass hammering it, a big warmouth jackhammers the thing and tries to pull it back into the tree ?
  7. 3.2-3.5 in my Sportsman 120 PDL. If I'm fighting wind it'll be more around 2.8-3.0. That's an easy speed to maintain that I can cruise for a very long time.
  8. I'm not a fan of cranks either. I know they work and I catch some of my biggest fish of the year every year on them, I just don't like using them.
  9. Enough to know it collapses about as well as any other plastic.
  10. Had my first kayak tournament of my circuit this year at Mined Wildlife Area in Southeast Kansas Saturday, it was ungood for me, just short fish after short fish and lost every bigger one I hooked. Prefishing went pretty well though ? Prefishing was super windy, sleeting, just as nasty as it could be. Tourney day was calm, almost hot by the end of the day. My pit I was planning on fishing was small and shortly after I got there, a whole group of otters showed up and started wreaking the place, fish heads all over the bank. Can't imagine that helped me any. I tried to move to a different pit but they're mostly very clear and deep so with that high sun by then, it was pretty much game over. I did get one to try and add another to my bag, but of course it flopped off my board and back into the water ? Momma said there'd be days like this I suppose. Finished right in the middle of the 62 person field with 3 little fish.
  11. Welcome!
  12. IMHO, nothing much dumber than confronting someone over a fishing spot. In my line of work, I've seen people killed over much less than what you did. It was a big lake, why not just go to a different spot? Did confronting him accomplish anything? It happens, all you can do is shake your head and remember that you're fishing, it's supposed to be relaxing.
  13. When I say moss, I'm talking slimey algae. It's pretty bad almost everywhere here right now. My fingers are stained from the pulling so much of it off my baits last weekend.
  14. I don't keep a journal, but I do record most of my trips. It's nice to be able to go back and review what worked and what didn't later on. It's helped me correct bad habits I didn't know I had by watching myself also.
  15. I have a whole gallon bag of single tail grubs in my boat, 3, 4, and 5 inch. Scrubbing a grub is deadly but has been completely replaced by boot tail swimbaits
  16. They're effective, cheap, and sell in bulk packs, all big pluses for me.
  17. Bullfrogs are super aggressive. We use to "fish", for them all the time when I was a kid. A grub on a bronze hook worked almost every time. Now I cuss them every time they chase my frog. I can say, I rarely catch fish where I have frogs chasing my bait. I'm guessing that's a sign they're too comfortable for there to be a predator around.
  18. It can be here fairly often, the trade off is they're not very big. I could pretty much all my shot last Sunday. Pull my jerkbait past any laydown, it was getting bit, but big fish didn't go 16" and most were under 12".
  19. I use to not even walk by it without getting it. Now I can stroll through it without any issues, not sure what changed but sure glad it did.
  20. I have an ITX, it's a very nice reel.
  21. Been around for a good several years. They're a productive bait, most baits from Big Bite Baits are though. Like often happens, getting a lot of mentions due to a tournament win.
