  1. I've broken way more Rapalas, specifically the DT6's, than any other crankbait I've used. Can't slap wood baits, any wood bait, to clear the weeds. It does seem that the DT's have gotten a little more durable in recent years though. I still have a hard time buying them unless they're on sale but they're good fish catchers so it's hard not to have a few.
  2. Big Bite Baits Yomama in Black neon/Watermelon Red. I meant to buy plain Black Neon but bought the laminate and tried it out. I've got a 100 pack in my boat now.
  3. Got my dad and my oldest out to chase some 'eyes Saturday. Dad and mom like to eat them, so I always try to get out with him and try to get them a couple to eat every spring. Water was way dirtier than I'd hoped but after a couple fat white bass, I caught a keeper saugeye along with a couple more shorts. The lake has a good spinnerbait bite for bass, but they're usually pretty small. Windy, cold, dirty water? Yeah, I had to make some cast at them. They were CHEWING, and bigger than average it seemed. Chart/white Booyah Covert with the orange/gold Colorado blades was killing them. Sent dad home with a bookend pair of line-burner 18" saugeye for him and my mom to eat.
  4. Welcome back!
  5. I usually fish alone. I use to have the excuse that I have odd days off so nobody was able to go. Now I have weekends off and still usually fish alone. I'm starting to get the feeling I just prefer to fish alone.
  6. Yes. I have an uncle that swears they're the best fish in freshwater to eat though, better than walleye or crappie. He's also got a few screws loose, so take that for what it's worth.
  7. I've got a Daiwa Goldcast that is maybe as old as I am and still works just fine. I never used it anymore so I loaned it to a friend and his kids use it all the time.
  8. Idk what is special about them, but I liked the look so I tried to make my own. They didn't turn out as pretty, but they've been effective.
  9. We had tornado watches last night, we were in the "Enhanced Risk", zone even. Rained and stormed pretty good for a minute while I was working OT but never did anything too exciting, hopefully you have the same or less.
  10. The bladed jig is more of a replacement for a squarebill than a spinnerbait for me. Times when I use to pick up a squarebill or shallow running crank are now when I'm grabbing a bladed jig and it's much more productive than cranks were. Pit boss, 3.8 fat impact, Big Bite Baits Swimon, Rage Menace are all good trailers. The Havoc Devil's Spear was a great one but unfortunately discontinued.
  11. A Ned rig or wacky rig are both great follow up baits.
  12. A lot of us that grew up being taught to be respectful were also taught "2 wrongs don't make a right". Do you think he "Taught that guy some manners?" Highly unlikely. The more probable outcome was he went and told people about the jerk fisherman that yelled at him while he was just kayaking. Not saying what the kayaker did was right, but getting into an argument about it wasn't a good idea either.
  13. Jigs were a tough one for me to learn, same with a bladed jig. Their now a couple of my favorite baits to fish. More recently, the drop shot was something I just could not get the hang of but it's now a rig that I'm pretty confident in fishing.
  14. We use to play in gym class when I was high school. I always enjoyed it and was pretty good at it. Only paddle sport I've ever played other than ping-pong.
  15. Peg It's are a rubber thing that goes inside the sinker to stop it. These kind come on a little wire that you pull your line through the stop to get it on the line. You can also get the thread and bead type but I can't ever get those ones to stay tight and my bobber ends up sliding around on my line.
  16. If you're going to be fishing more weeds, 40-50lb Seaguar Smackdown, no leader. If you're going to be fishing more rock/mud/clay/wood, 17lb Tatsu.
  17. I wear mine 100% of the time in my kayak, and my boat. Things happen fast. What may be within reach at one moment might be too far to save yourself when it actually matters. We had a guy in our tournament this past weekend forget the plug in his kayak and had to go in, almost went down, it happened fast in cold water on a cold day in the middle of nowhere with very little cell service when we were scattered over a large area. Thankfully he made it to shore in time and didn't really need his PFD, but those cold temps would have sucked the energy from him fast if he'd have swamped further from the bank and who knows what would have happened then.
  18. This thread isn't far from being a teenager ?
  19. I don't typically target bedding fish and it's pretty uncommon for the water to be clear enough for me to see them anyways.
  20. The FFS minnow looks almost exactly like a Berkley Twitchtail/Gulp Minnow. That thing on an 1/8oz jighead was a fish catching machine for me for several years. JC used it a lot the first couple days but that bite died on him the 3rd day and he went flipping. You don't have to take my word for it, you can literally watch the Bassmaster's Classic on Youtube. Not sure which bait you want to attribute the win to. Both played a major roll in his win.
  21. Bending the blade will effect running depth and vibration. You can play with that a bit to get the bait to do what you want. How sharply it's bent and how far back it's bent both play into it.
  22. Heavy grass, I go with the swim jig. Any other time, I start with the bladed jig.
  23. How am I supposed to tell where you were with pictures of the sky?? ? Congrats on the monster day man.
  24. That Sukushi bug has been a great Ned rig bait for me, especially early in the year when the baby craws are all over the rocks.
  25. That first brown bass is special. I still remember mine, and yours could have ate my first smallmouth.
