  1. I keep a Jig, spinnerbait and some type of top water tied on when I start out fishing. This time of year I will start shallow and work my way out to ledges and drop offs. A lot of times a sonar doesn't do you any good in the real shallows any way. I don't consider it as a search bait. I am just trying to figure out where the fish are holding and what they are chasing. I have never been able to throw i.e. a spinner bait catch a couple good fish and then switch to something slower. I think you are over thinking it. If you want to start out with a texas rig and finally move in an area where you get bit then I guess you can call that searching with a texas rig. Fish the bait you have caught fish on before in the particular area you fish, if you don't get bit then switch to crank, spinnerbait or lipless crank. or whatever. I think throwing a so called search bait i.e. lipless crank and don't get bit and move on, you are probably leaving an area where a slower bait like a texas rig would have gotten bit.
  2. I'm heading out tomorrow just hope I can do half that good, nice fish!!
  3. I always purchase a license, I wish they would come to the lake I fish and check licenses There are several that fish without one. I remember one time going on the first day of trout fishing. I was fishing a small creek that had a deep hole where I had caught trout before. Two guys came and asked if I minded them fishing along with me, I didn't object and we fished for a little while before the game warden pulled up and got out of his car. He came down to where we were and asked us to show licenses, One of the guys threw down his Rod and cut out running. Game warden a younger guy cut out right behind him yelling for him to stop. In the mean time the other guy laid his rod down and walked of into the woods. About a hundred yards down the creek the guy running stopped and pulled out his license and showed the game warden, turns out his buddy who had walked away didn't have a license. The game warden didn't even bother to check mine he just got in his car and left.

  9. Thanks bigbill I have no intention on selling them, was already looking forward to when I can leave them for my son. Just thought It might be kinda neat to know what company they were from. I never got to meet my grandpa, he died before I was born. No way would I ever part with these. I never knew he was into bass fishing.
  10. It probably was 7lbs before it laid in the grass for a while and shrank, Just wondering where the solid five went?
  11. I went to visit my dad the other day and he gave me these three lures that were his dads. My dad is 88 so the lures have to be early 1900's. Just wondering if any knows where I can get any information about these, I know the one is a creek chub pikie but the others I have no idea, I have searched the web and haven't seen anything like them
  12. Thanks guys, I have a few people that swear by solid red lipless crank baits. For me I bought a few but never catch anything on them. I guess timing is everything.

I'm just wondering when and if you guys ever throw red baits, I mean totally red. I see some spinner baits that are totally red including the Blade. There are always totally red lipless cranks. Just wondering if any of you throw red and what conditions would you consider good for throwing a totally Red lure.

Was fishing today Casting a Jig with a craw trailer to the bank. Hooked what seemed to be a 5-6 LB Turtle. My question, If a Turtle will eat a craw will he eat a Bass?? Turtle was hooked in the mouth, so he obviously ate it.
  16. Got my Mettle H20's in the mail the other day, Nice reels for the price. These things will cast a mile with just a flip of the wrist. I just can't make myself spend the money for a more expensive reel. I guess you do get what you pay for but dang these reels are nice and inexpensive.
  17. The weather lately has been crazy, water temps are still in the high 70's which is hot for us around here. Caught this one on a 3/8oz Seibert Jig with a Net bait paca chunk for a trailer. My scale sad she was 4.54, caught her in 5 feet of water pitching in the weeds. Pay no attention to the date on the picture, I carry this camera in my tackle bag and have never set the date.
  18. The only way I knew that my lake had shad was when I went fishing and saw about 25 or 30 of them lying on top of the water dead. I don't know what happened to them, just know they were shad.
  19. I use Power Pro 12/50 I like the way it casts better than the others you mentioned.
  20. After reading the reviews and your recommendation I ordered one of these it was on clearance for 39.98. I'll let you know how it does after I get it. Thanks Dave. I figured for that price why not.
  21. I'll take a look thanks Dave.
  22. This may be the wrong place to post but.....What makes a reel Cost $300.00 VS. say $99.00 Bearings or what?? I am looking to pickup 2 new reels. I'm just wondering.
  23. The one in my Avatar has been my go to all year this year. I have never had any luck with the black and blue combo.
  24. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/%5C//images/fisheries/info_sheets/cr_mortality.pdf I found this read kind of interesting.
  25. I would first go and click the fishing articles section above and read the articles on Jig fishing by some of the best. I think I read in one of the articles that a Jig was a good search bait, I can't remember which one though. I learned to fish a Jig working it like you would a texas rig. Just remember what you did to get bit, and repeat. The bad part I can see fishing jigs from shore is its either going to cost you a lot of money in lost jigs or your going to do a lot of swimming to get them back. Good Luck and let us know how you do!
