  5. These are all great tips, appreciate it. It is a do it mold, I'll make sure its clean, there is some carbon from me smoking it, could that cause it? It does looked closed all the way, usually if I don't close it properly I can see a gap or when I go to lift it up the hooks move and that hasn't been the case
  6. Thnks Skeeter, I'll have to lower the temp as I had it on the highest setting, I don't have a fluid bed so I'll need to see about making one and finally the teflon plugs, where would I find something like that? Or would the pins from the mold work? I have a couple extra
  7. I've been making some jigs for myself since a lot of the colours I like are always sold out. Here's my process tell me what you think. Stage 1- I learned the hard way with pouring, dirty lead doesn't pour well and leads to continous spout clogging. So I'm sticking with the clean stuff and I haven't had to clear the spout nearly as often. Problem I'm facing now though I have to continously adjust the rod to prevent dripping. Also I find that I get excess lead around the seam of the jig which I later have to sand down along with the excess at the top of the jig that I break off.. Adds a bit of time to the entire process. Stage2- prep for paint, as stated above, sand/ file off excess lead around seam and top of jig. Dip and bake. This stage is pretty easy except for the sanding and clearing off the hook eye. I use a tooth pick and it doesn't always clear the paint, sometimes it makes a mess actually. Stage 3 after baking remove jigs drill out fiber guard hole with 1/8 drill bit and hook eyes for ones that were covered. Glue in fiber guards and let dry Stage 4 assemble skirts and rattles Stage 5 catch fish
  8. youre right, thats the hook I just found out
  9. A friend of mine swears by this hook, looks like some kind of mustad, he said he's never been able to bend one compared to other mustad flipping hooks Who makes this hook?
  10. This weekend was my first time out on the water this season. Bass isnt open until the last weekend of june. Pike and Walleye are fair game. I decided to do some exploring as its rare to see bass bedding here due to the late season start, while cruising some shallow water I came across a back bay near a creek 2' of water with lots of bluegill busting water and an occassional bass swimming around. Water temperature on this unseasonal weekend was 70 degrees, given the conditions I figured the bluegills were getting ready to spawn as they were hovering around in little packs, possibly being chased by bass. Does this mean the bass have spawned already, and currently the bluegills are pulling in for their shift? What kind of conclusion would one draw and possibly benefit from finding this spot for next month when the bass season opens?
  11. Im looking for the 1" sized magnum mushroom rattle, im currently purchasing the 3/4 for my smaller jig buts for my bigger ones id like to you the larger rattle.
  12. if they had an avid in 7'5 5/16- 5/8 id jump all over it but they dont, im undecided on 7'
  13. that makes sense but Im fairly good at hitting my target currently with my 7'5 that I have now
  14. Looking for a new rod for pitching light jigs, have it narrowed down to the avid AVC70MHXF 7' MH X-Fast 1 12 - 17 5/16 - 3/4 4.7 or gloomis 11959-01 GL2 893C JWR Ex-Fast Med-Heavy 7'5" 12-16 3/16-5/8 $210.00 I like the length of the loomis for longer more accurate pitches and better line movement, both are $210. Im torn between which length rod, as id like to use it for pitching under docks also.. I have a mossy back 7'5 heavy that I use for most of my jig fishing. What do you say
  15. I'll make sure I don't, thanks for the heads up
  16. The bucktail came in , I didnt expect this lol, any tips for working with this?
  17. Sounds like the defrost timer, if the evap coil was plugged youd have a build up of ice.
  18. haha work the edge, bass fishing strategy put towards eating nachos, I like it
  19. Where are you buying your owner hooks from? Theyre much more expensive than the mustads! 40 cents a hook!
  20. Im looking for the strongest hook for my flipping jig mold, something with real sturdy wire and a sharp point, currently using mustad ultrapoints 32786bln, guy who wants me to make him some is saying he wants a stronger hook because he frequently bends these.
  21. I wish I could purchase from Barlows but at $100.00 minimum order for international customers its just not worth it..
  22. Ive seen some jigs made with both silicone skirts and bucktails, I think they give a very natural look. What are some ways of attatching the bucktail?
  23. the mold that he used was a weedless bass style s mold, he used a 3 ot for all the sizes, 5/16 is the only weight that is meant to accept a 3/0 but he managed to use 3/0s for both the 7/16 9/16. Think I can do the same for my flipping mold? I managed to use a 5/0 for my 1/4 oz and 3/8
  24. I figured out the mold and it is a size 3 hook
