  1. Ive been fishing this lake with my dad for the last two years.. We've had good success locating shallow water fish in various types of cover- biggest fish 4.5 lbs. Some days the fishing can be really slow with lots of boat traffic and fishing pressure. Ive been telling my dad we need to get offshore and find some weedlines where we can get into more fish and better quality fish, ive heard of a few people catching 5-6 lbers which im thinking are offshore fish because ive yet to see anything even close to coming out of the shallows. We've had water temperatures in the 70s now for about 3-4 weeks so Im thinking the fish have moved deep by now and are setting up on their summer patterns. last weekend at 8 am the water temperatures were around 70 degrees, by noon -80. I attatched the map of the lake below, where would you start your search for deep water fish thanks
  2. I couldn't find a straight forward answer searching through the forums or looking online so I decided to give g loomis a call and get to the bottom of it. The customer service lady was very helpful... I explained how I wanted to purchase a flipping stick and have never owned a loomis rod before nor have I planned on spending the kind of money they're worth. My decision was between the mossyback or glx flipping stick. Only 25 bucks between the two, my main concern was sensitivity and the weight of the rod. She went as far as calling someone down in the factory to get to me the right answer.. She found out the imx of course is the more sensitive graphite vs the mossyback blend.. But because its telescopic its a heavier rod and loses its benefit of being imx therefore making the mossyback, a blend of gl2,gl3 and imx in the tip a more sensitive and lighter rod.
  3. too many choices I guess, i thought the fsr904x imx was my choice at 7'6" hvy mod fast until i noticed it was telescopic, ease of storage isnt a concern for me. sensitivity is however and a telescopic rod vs a true one piece to my understanding has its drawbacks. i then came across the bcfr894 mossy back which is 1" shorter but 1 piece and 25 bucks cheaper. im not fimilar with the materials g loomis uses in their rods or the difference between the imx and mossy back. I need your long time loomis users expertise!
  4. I'm sure the dobyns are great rods but I'd rather purchase a rod from a company who has the background and reputation in the industry from making quality rods for years
  5. Ok great,Thanks for the response
  6. I'm returning my big gulp bc I didn't like the 7'11" for flipping, instead I want 7'6, I also decided to spend a little more to get exactly what I want. I've narrowed it down to either the gloomis imx 7'6 hvy mod fast tip / or the st.croix legend xtreme in the same specs. They're about the same price, same length same actions. Which is the better rod? I take care of my equipment and don't splurge a lot like this for a rod so I want something that will perform and be worth its money. What do you think?
  7. ive been out fishing with it once just not sure if id be better suited with a 7'6, i dont want to short change myself
  8. Go figure I need help with choosing a flipping rod when I already purchased one... Saturday was my birthday so I decided to treat myself to a new flipping stick as its primarily what I fish with 90% of the time on the water. I ended up purchasing the st.croix legend tournament big gulp- 7'11" heavy with mod fast tip. Paid 265 taxes in for it ( canadian) Im starting to rethink my whole approach and after reading past threads on sensitivity and balance of rods im even more confused. Im also rethinking my choice of a stick so long. If someone would be helpful enough for me to figure this out id appreciate it. Lets start with the length of a flipping stick to begin with. typically im flipping jigs anywhere from 1/2-3/4 ounce and recently 1 oz, most of my flips less than 20 ft from my boat not to say thats what i limit myself to, with more experience that may increase. I like flipping docks, cat tails, and weed clumps, i dont often toss my jig in extremely thick cover but its something i want to start doing more. im not sure if the 7'11 is an appropriate length or what a rod that long is actually intended for or specialized for? maybe a 7'6 would be more appropriate, in which in that case would i switch the power of the rod to MH? this post is kinda all over the place just like my thoughts on what i should use for a flipping stick- Now as for the rod I purchased ( big gulp) I do find it very light considering its size although it is tip heavy. I just havent used a rod this size before so i dont know what to expect. balance it or not? switch to a shorter rod? why? these are the questions rolling through my mind. if someone can help shed some light id appreciate it.
  9. I'm not a big fan of the strike king jigs, I usually use punisher jigs that come with owner hooks
  10. Hello everyone, went out on sunday for the season opener.. With some new tackle and tactics I managed to do ok. Landed 3 small mouth in the 2lb range and 3 largies around 3 lbs. Chigger craw and pointer 100s for the win. While I was testing out the structure scan I recently installed I found a school of fish in in 30 ft of water, they seemed to be feeding on a school of bait in the 10-15 ft range. I tried drop shotting them or slow rolling a deep diving crank but had no luck enticing them, any tips? What do you guys think?
  11. cant find a definition in the glossary for a bluff? what does it mean? sudden stop of structure leading into the water?
  12. the bottom line is you get what you pay for. I seriously doubt anyone moves from the usa to china or mexico to have better capabilites of making their product. Its to save labor costs... but at the same time the machines and designs are what make our products not the individual operating the machine especially when theres quality control monitoring the product.
  13. 10 bucks for 3 with the soft weights n hook isnt bad, ive seen them for 17, i bought a pack last month on sale for 13.49 which i thought was a steal..
  14. excellent excellent!! lol do you guys know if we have a code for ***? i thought i saw it once in a thread. so the colors are chart shad, american shad, aurora black thanks gents
  15. Im going to put an order in for some jerkbaits.. I picked up a couple xraps - clown, olive, perch... Ill probably be picking up some lucky crafts pointer 100s. what are your 3 go to colors. My water here is mostly clear, nothing too dark n dungy. I was thinking chart shad for one?
  16. thanks, ive heard a lot of good about them, Cant wait to get out there and wet the line
  17. Watched the movie last night, great movie... 10/10 if you ask me. Full of twists and turns, definetly reccommend you go out and watch it... has anyone else seen it?
  18. Went in today with my year old quantum kvd baitcaster, had lots of problems with the reel and decided after a year to try and get rid of it, went in today told them the problem I was having, gave me a full credit which I then used towards a new revo sx.. They didn't have any e5s instock, since I just bought the e7 last week I figured I'd put the revo through the test and see how I like them. Only costed me an extra 30 for the revo sx
  19. I bought a pack of them at the bps in vegas, we dont have them here! I got watermellon! you guys rig them texas?
  20. If thats the black BPS exclusive reel then that would have made me stop using them also. Are you guys talking about the Quantum kv100cd kvd signature series reel, in black? I purchased this one from bps last year on sale for like 90 bucks, nothing but problems for me.... keep getting line breaks on the cast bc the line gets stuck in the side of the spool and housing.... still have the box and its in great condition, a year later do you think I can return / exchange it?
  21. i agree with the above statements but as for using a marker you can just run it up the line. I read an article on that, using a black sharpie to run the first ft or two of faded braid.
  22. theyre rof 12s
  23. While I was in vegas I picked up some huddleston swimbaits @ bps since we don't have them here... 2 6" trouts and 10 4" shads, what are your favorite ways to use these? And one what setup? I can't wait to use them
  24. Better than losing lol, and I was kidding about the lbs, ate a lot of good food is all I'm saying! Vegas is all about food drinks gambling and women lol
