  1. Back from vegas, landed yesterday.. Luxor was a crazy hotel, spent most of my time at the black jack table enjoying free double johnny blacks lol. By the end of the trip I probably gained a few pounds at the great buffets and damaged my liver for life.. Didnt hit the jackpot but won enough to bring back some great memories and 13 hud swimbaits.. Grand Canyon was truly amazing... I need some sleep.
  2. Really? They won't allow you to tradde in and save on a shimano? That's strange.... Well I'm glad they do here, they usually sell the e7 for 229 here.. With the classic it was 179 then 30 bucks off with a trade in, I couldn't resist, guys were buying 5 at a time.
  3. I don't think they were giving me the brush off, I got the reel using the trade in so I picked up the curado for 140 bucks, this bps is the only one in canada... He just told me to wait until classic is over since they ran out of stock and probably won't be receiving anymore for a week or two. This guy was a shimano rep, not even a bps employee.. I didn't want my money back then I'd have a hassle getting the new one in at the same price, thanks for the heads up though
  4. Mike Iaconelli not your fathers fisherman, its basically his bio and the start of his career to date. Great read, great angler
  5. until this winter ive never maintained any of my reels, shame on me as I continually educate my customers that the number one cause for mechanical failure is lack of maintenance. Can someone go over some pointers on the proper way of maintaining spinning and baitcasting reels? I think im ok with the spinning reels - I have a stradic and I just remove the oil port screw on the side of the reel and add a few drops of the lubricant that was provided with the reel. As for baitcasters, im not exactly sure of the oil points, i dont want to go too crazy for now but id like to know some measures that will go a long way if someone would be kind enough to give me the run over.
  6. I bought a pack also this year, dying to get out and use it
  7. thanks guys, thats what I thought, ill be sure to return it when they get more in stock
  8. I just picked one up at the bps sale this weekend, A couple times when i hit the trigger to cast the trigger wouldnt go back into place. When I brought it to Bps they said it was the drag- set too loose. So i suggested we loosen it up again to verify, when we did it didnt happen again. The rep from shimano was there and he said to wait until the end of the classic and just pick up a new one if I wasnt comfortable with this one, what do you guys think? I played around with it some more when I got home, it would seem whenever I adjusted the breaks this would happen, along with a really rough rotation of the reel, if I tightened the drag it would correct itself. Has this happened to anyone?
  9. Each line serves its purpose, one excels at one where it doesn't fair so well at another. Mono is great for top water / jerkbaits, it has floating properties. Fluro sinks and has good abrasion properties and is invisble compared to braid, use it in situations that call for that, such as clear water finesse or crankbaiting to get that line down deep, braid for me is heavy cover, it saws through vegetation like a weed wacker, and helps me detect subtle jig bites.
  10. Ever since I was a kid Ive always seen this crazy looking reel on a backwards rod that I now use myself- a baitcaster... My dad told me he bought it , used it once and it stayed on the rod rack since then. Abu garcia Ambassador xlt 35th anniversary limited edition baitcaster with flipping switch, spare spool Made in Sweden, Paired with a 6'6 medium heavy abu garcia conolon bass lite graphite rod. Antique, mint condition though... Id love to take it out one day just to see how far we've come and how advanced the technology was back during the first generation baitcasters, I think my dad would kill me though
  11. customer service for me is more important then saving a buck or two... its treatment like that - that would keep me going back to a store.
  12. great video for sure, Shaw Grigsby seems like a real straight up guy.
  13. I was at bps sale on sunday and I searched through over 100 x-raps they had in a pile, no trace of yellow perch. Picked up Perch and Olive xr10s for 6 ea
  14. The teachers said I was a late bloomer haha...
  15. Id love to read that article, gonna see if I can locate it. Last year I lost a couple fish on braid, maybe I had the drag set too tight, maybe it was that with the combination of my Mh fast rod. All I know is I want to avoid it this time around...I picked up a medium fast rod specifically for jerkbaits now I guess ill have to experiment to see, but to be honest ive read a few articles saying mono is the way to go... All Year Jerkbaits by Mike Iaconelli is one of them. I dont see why you would want braid on your line when fishing jerkbaits, the stretch in mono gives a good cushion for hooksets and added action for the lure- which I dont see braid providing. Sensitivity wise im confused also since typically you want to fish jerkbaits on a slack line, it is a reaction bite too isnt it? We arent exactly finessing a jerkbait. Help me out here- am I way off?
  16. thanks for the tips guys, ive been brushing up on my poker skills ahaha
  17. you p-line! lol im im gonna show u all the money i win lol
  18. the otter is definetly worth the money, im a tradesman and use it on my black berry bold, last month i dropped it from an 80 ft scaffold - not a scratch
  19. haha, i'll try not too... if i hit it big ill be coming home with lots of tackle lol, happy early bday lol
  20. Going to Vegas for my first time on Thursday, staying at the Luxor for 4 days. Plan on doing some gambling, little more gambling, and possibly check out some local tackle stops lol... Huddleston baits is out of Nevada arent they? Anyone know of any places I should hit up there? i just verified it, hudds is out of las vegas, anyone know if they have a store that i can visit? or maybe i can have them ship something to the hotel lol... I dont have an email that i can reach them at though
  21. great, sounds good.... so do you guys have those zebra muscles in your waters?
  22. clear, smoke green, camo... never used any other colors for mono other than clear. Water around me is mosty clear due to zebra muscles, they inhabit most likes in which I frequent, which one do you think is best?
  23. for clear water suffix seige in clear the best way to go? hows the green / camo?
  24. yea im definetly going to loosen the drag a bit this year, i was using a mh fast also last year, i picked up a med fast this year.. Im making sure i dont lose fish again lol
  25. congrats and happy bday, put some bend in that rod
