  1. I'm curious if anyone thinks they get a better hook up percentage with the traditional round bend vs wide gap
  2. I'm sure this is a thread somewhere, but what are your favorite hook types for plastics? All rigs and why? I'm curious to which has the best hook up ratio for you. Thanks I use a straight shank for punching and wide gaps for all other rigs.
  3. 80lb is a good punchin line
  4. Irod Fred's Magic Stick in the Genesis 2 is a Heavy fast/moderate. I would say it's a fast. I just picked up the Air 754 and it's a Heavy Fast. The Air will get some time frogging this year.
  5. Good luck. I had a terrible experience. Questionable behavior by buyer and terrible customer service by USPS. IMHO of course.
  6. Frogging most use the 735. You may be right on the one power heavier. I did a similar thing with Irod. But i owned a couple first. Good luck.
  7. well. Okay then. So, what reels do you like/own?
  8. I don't want to sound rude, but you have felt this? Maybe it's my style, but I can say I never have. I have had a carbon fiber handle flex and delaminate. That's it
  9. Seems like all metal or aluminum frame and metal component parts fans really stand firm when comparing to reels with graphite or "plastic" frames. Or components like the gear attached to the worm gear for that matter. Has anyone ever had a graphite frame or "plastic" piece fail while bass fishing? Proof would be great; like photos. Catching wipers, stripers, catfish, or muskie while bass fishing doesn't count if that is when it failed. From a feel aspect, I myself like the aluminum feel which is why I like OG Zillions and the new Fuego Cts. But have owned $50 to $550 reels and have never had one fail. So I dont see why its that big of a deal other than preference.
  10. The OP is wanting to stay under 2oz. Magic Stick is perfect for what he's looking for.
  11. Irod Genesis II Fred's Magic Stick
  12. My point is that it's easier to control the bait and depth with the 6.3. Gear ratio does matter, that's why it is easier to keep a buzzbait on top with a 7.3. Bring a chatterbait in on 8.1 and see the difference between that and 6.3. I would rather have a slower gear ratio than adjust my retrieve rate. Easier to control. I also typically use a split tail or fluke which would add little to no rise on the bait.
  13. Irod Genesis II "Fred's Crank Launcher Jr". 763. Perfect rod for cranks up to 5xd IMO. Can handle 6XD but not my favorite if your cranking all day.
  14. Was using a 7.3. Didn't like it. Changed to 6.3. IPT matters big time. I felt like it needs to be 24-27 IMO. My own issues were it was rising to fast and I felt like I had more control with the slower 6.3.
  15. Can't go wrong with either. Buy both! Myself, I'm a Daiwa guy. Own a few SV's. Love them. Will be getting a few more.
  16. Then why worry? Funny how guys were catching bass before all the tech and high dollar rods. If you like the Savvy then keep it. Or step up to the a higher end rod. My jig rod is a Genesis 2. I really like it. Use to use a Steez 7'1"H. Hated it, but others love it. To each his own.
  17. Sometimes Daiwa uses grease and over-greases the spool bearings. I always take them out and clean them, remove grease if necessary, and apply a drop of oil before reinstalling.
  18. here's your sign
  19. The HSTA is a tank of a reel. Reliable, well built, awesome performance, but heavy compared to todays reels. Time will tell of the Tatulas and Zillions will hold up like the Advantages, TDXs & Zs, and Zillions. Keep it tuned up but take a chance on the Tatula CT & CT SV or Fuego Ct. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
  20. Irod, Megabass, Daiwa, and the unmentionables.
  21. Gotcha. I've played with that rod in a store. For me it's not a squarebill rod, but who knows maybe it would work. I would play around with shakeyheads and open hook tubes.
  22. What he said minus the squarebills. Though the brand and blank design could add more techniques if we had that info
  23. That's why I recommended the Fiber. I'm only 5'11" and those rods are fine. To each their own.
