Thats easy don't buy new baits,new fishing rods, have new line, but put it on tonight and take it out for a few cast anywhere just make sure that the lines not on backwards or over fill little things become major. Read all the rules and make any adjusrments to follow the rules. Now the easy part on any other day you fished hard for a couple hrs. and then called your wife that might be against the rules but sit down eat some fruit look around. The piont is theres nothing specail on tourney day you payed some money and waited until buddy said go. The fish don't care it's not specail to them. If you usally just fish 1 spot all day them do that on Sat. If you get bored anyother Sat. and move here and there then fish the same way. Except don't leave any area until you have fished every spot your way even if 5 boats fished it. If you are cputer great use 1 of these fishing logs. If not 3 ring binder and 2 different color pens write were you fished and if it's partner draw were buddy fished and then write your results and what won and if everybody wacked fish and you didn't. Hopfully you wacked fish and everybody else struggled. Do this for every tourney and fun/practise days if you are the type but tourney for sure by mid Feb 3-4 tourneys you should see some glaring mistakes. Have Fun Garnet

Don't get in a hurry you joined a club now you better have won a few draw tourneys 5 - 10 boats or been the club champ or generally been fishing pretty good in different lakes and situations. Then by all means get your money in do your practise and giver the dream just don't quit if you get dissapointed just regroup learn another doz. things and whip the club boys again until you see your next opp. We are not kidding it's fun Garnet

Yes Luke wins hands down if every boat has been there for a full hour. Now how is luke going to beat all these guys 1 hr late. My luke knows every square inch of that flat, 3/4 of the boat there think this is just one big flat, and you just keep fishing. My luke knows ever little edge, every little dark spot, he knows were some cane grew 2 years ago, and 4 years ago he even knows were theres a little depression just in the middle of nothing. I'm betting on my luke because he new work harder than everbody and hard work will allways beat hp. Of course the real Luke Clausen in a rowboat is going to out work 8/10 guys. Garnet

Another Point that Matt Fly talked about the champion ship you let as many as possible fish it but still have a cut. I've seen were the top 20 teams fish free and the next 25 payed 1/2 price $50. Of course the cream and almost cream are muttering why those back markers should get a change at your money blab blab. They are not likly to win you are likly to give the big money to somebody in the top 25 qualifiers. And it should big money first, just about made a little money second, third not much and anybody passed 5th gets nothing. You need to throw the cream a bone just don't tell them it's chartity. But it's not charity the boys running the show need money and the cream guys need 20-100 to pay next year. Or they can take there money now and in 3 years your series is strugling just not enough entry's nobody new showing up ect. Garnet

FSR and I are on the same page even if theres a competing series that pays $500 more to win and $300 for second and has a moderately lower entry fee i'm fishing FSR's because in 3 years I will be still fishing with that same deal. The other series might flashed a lot of entry's for a year or 2 but by the 3 year 25th-100th have moved on to better memory's we got interview on stage that time and they threw the local star of the stage. We cashed 3 cheques for $700 in 2 years and 12 tourneys..........it's a little less to fish that other series but the same guys win every week what do we get. The truth is the same guys are winning on the other series but your 7-25 finnishers get a taste. I've seen some series have a later tourney for everbody that didn't cash a cheque..........you can't make this look like charity. you give the interview to these lower guys not every week but a few each week and make your way threw all your guys that are paying the bills. Now the local hot's will be pissy because they didn't get interview but those guys are going no where the moneys good and theres lots anglers there when they get the big sack you get to thank your sponcer and flash your pearly's. I know that the paybacks are in the wrong place. Paying 10 places just the cream gets any money or the getting close cream. The cream and the organizer need place 11-100 to come back and work and pay and work. For me I want to see entry fee pay back way way down so regular fall off for first 7-10 place and maybe 15-25 get there $100 back. Then I no that 11-100 will be back next year next week because they got a check. The interview!!! the cream guys that got a bag should get a few words the cream that didn't get the bag today needs to be thrown off the stage. When they got the bag you talk. The 11-100 should get the mike get ask some questions generaly made to feel good about there paying and they will be back next year next month and even if they leave for a year or 2 if the interest comes back guess were they will come back. Fast boats are not that important until you go to that 1 lake thats big big big and nasty nasty nasty and we have one in every area and then it's just big hp=big boat=safety. That being said there could advantage on a spawning area for the 50hp if buddy left his tourney shirt off and just went right at it buddy in the big equipment might not worry about little old me in a 50hp. I'd get a bad hat and try to look new at the game many half fall in a couple times sit down and fart around a bit until I found the big girls. Garnet

If buddy's got lots and lots of money changes are this is the flavor of this year. One of the great things about fishing for money you can buy everything I own 225,22ft bassboat,tow vechice, 20 fishing rods I use and 20 I can't think about selling, 30 years of everthing that was ever advetized for baits in every color. And you still will not get success. You are going to buy me because I need you to pay me either prize money or guide fees..........but you going to pay for lessons. So if you got the dough buy yourself in if you are around in 3 years you might start getting success. I need you to start with a dream and pay your dues. Garnet

You can learn all the other cheaply at the club local small series. The OTHER is what takes to win I know a few hundred fixes for batterys, trolling motors, livewell pumps, main motors, I carry parts with me that you would not believe exater trailer hubs 2 set of bearings nuts and pins and props and arrow direction things for my trolling motor. I keep my boats for 5 to 7 years and every part I break I buy a second. I can catch fish on a beautifull day in practice and fish the worst Sh....t east wind day on the same spot going a different direction throwing at different angles and even the same bait 1/2 oz bigger. And I still have 30 years of memeroys fishing everything from $5 big fish derbys to $100,000 to win tourneys . I don't really mean to scare you. you are most likly a succefull Biz man that rec fished for years and had sucess at something else. If you go to the highes level that you can pay your way into you will donate for 5 years if you are lucky. You do the math $50,000 would be low. If you want to go this way I would suggest you do what a local guy did. I'm in Southern Ont. he'd fly a guy that was killing here every week for practice and a tournement payed all expence. The first year then the next year he payed buddy to bring his boat and camper truck and he payed camp fees for 2.5 months. The 3rd year they were parntners 50/50 and buddy had 30 years experience in 2 years. Thats the cheapest way I've seen success. The thing is if you fish 10 tournements against me that I care about you will be having a wicked year if you beat me or anybody else 2 times. Even if you catch more fish than I do my experience will get mine on the scales were you are beat. Garnet

for most applications you need 100-120ft of power pro. So if you are starting with a new reel get that cheap mono of the same dia. from Wmart and fill to the right level. Even take it out and fish for a day or 2. Now strip off 35 pulls and put your Power pro on. Now your spool is filled to the right level to get max performance out of your reels. Do the same with mono/flour. reels then if you are stripping 4 reels open all bails or push buttons 35 pulls and you have them stripped and will fill the same back on. Garnet

CF for the money you have in your Bionic Blade get your hacksaw and a piece of tape just shorten that bad boy up. To big a hump hacksaw most down and sand to shape. Garnet

Everybody basically fishes the same just small little things they do. So you will need to work your way thourgh all this stuff. Were you but your rods how you cull fish weres the net and a million other things. Thats the fun of tourney fishing I could give you a list of 100 of my do's and don't and not one will help you because that issues is solved for you or it hasn't came up yet. Just go out try hard and keep some notes and next fall read them over you will laugh at all the stupid thing you were doing and marvel at your improvements. And have fun. Garnet

The varnish will yellow and chip after a few years and the guides arn't top line but they fish well and you can redo the guides or throw the stick out. Make sure you check the spline I've seen serveral the guides a placed poorly. Just don't expect to pass it down to your kids. Garnet

Try a very small metal bead (small hole)with a rubber bobber stop above then your bullet wieght. I use to use spinnerbait materail but didn't like throwing worm wieghts away or fighting to clear the hole. If you go on the FLW site and watch Larry Nixon rig a worm you will see the Bobber stop. RW Greenbay is reel bad because it's 178 miles to Big Bay Bnoc and theres zero to get behind even if you run the ley shore if the wind blows hard one way the whole bay starts bouncing 8-10 ft'ers. From the city Greenbay the first decent smallie area is 25 miles and your're still 5 miles fron Stugeon Falls (or Bay) from there to Deaths Door is 15 miles that puts you between Grean Bay and Lake Michigan and you better have very large gonads or no brain power. My wife and I had our best vaction every at the Northern Div. for B.A.S.S. Garnet

RW got to agree the Linders rock and basically moulded my career as a multie species guy right now the Steelhead are smoking on the northshore of Lake Ont. and the ice is just scarey couple weeks. Roadwarrior in 1999 I was on team Ontario in Greenbay. B.A.S.S. ran the tourney out of Greenbay and it was a 44 mile run in the worst snotty 5-6 ft crap I've seen My draw guy from the Ohio River was never the same. By the third day 4 of our boats took 8 limits off that spot including 2nd overall. How to find deep bass: You start in the spring, were is the best spawning. and then you just keep fishing deeper go to the first break and idenifiy objects stumps rocks gravel areas weed areas. then move to the next break and by then you should be working underwater Pt. the side with the pervaling wind will be rocky (smallies) on the leyside will be sandy and weedy (largies). Of course theres no hard and fast rules but when you get past 10 ft when you catch a fish you expext to catch a limit quick in a small area so knowing were you caught a fish and getting back are big.
