  1. That is one sweet looking setup ..... congrats and enjoy!
  2. Jonesie great to hear from you... hope all is well. Lets get some fishing in.
  3. It had the 6.0 so it use to work really hard on the hills .... fully loaded trailer was probably around 7500lbs. Use to need a good running start on the big hills to keep a fast pace. Great truck though ... never had any troubles with it.
  4. I had my 2002 Silverado 2500HD from 2002 - 2011 and put 197k hard miles on it and truck was still in great shape. Use to pull a 22' enclosed race car trailer up and down the mountains of Pa and Ny so most miles were really hard. The truck was still good when I sold it but I was worried something must break at some point. I went with a 2011 F150 FX4 all stuffed out including the rear locking diff. Went with the twin turbo, 3.5L Ecoboost which has a tow rating of 11,500 which is actually higher than my 3/4 ton Chevy. No brand loyalty with me .... I was happy with my Chevy and my Ford but in 2011 the Chevy needed a facelift and some new technology.
  5. I've always had 4x4's but living in New England justifies it for me. As others have said most ramps you will not need 4x4 but at others you might find yourself avoiding them simply over the concern of getting stuck on a slick ramp or in the dirt/sand. Not sure where you live but if you leverage the 4x4 in the winter it sure is nice to know that you can be reasonably comfortable that you won't get stuck even on the sketchy ramps.
  6. If you think Lake X was good wait till you see Lake Y! Can you say big Smallies ..... Should be a weekday as parking is a challenge there as well.
  7. Jiggy I am more than happy to share the name ......the name is Lake X. Tate
  8. Good lord those are hogs! Great job!
  9. Rhino and I fished a 400 acre pond in Plymouth on Sunday, we were on the water before 5:30....water temps started at 67 and ended the day at 69 under sunny skies all day. We started in the the north end of the pond on a weedy flat approx 4'-5' deep. We both caught a bunch of good sized SMB's and LMB rather quickly. We were off to a quick start but it slowed downed after that initial burst. We caught fish in most places except on a large 10' depth hump with surrounding waters around 20' that usually produces quality SMB's. We both caught a number of good size pickerels. We caught fish in depths ranging from 2' to 15', the sweet spot seemed to be at the quick drops just offshore, perhaps around seven feet. Nothing in tight and some pretty far offshore. We caught fish on wacky senko's, curly tail grubs (blk/red flk and watermelon red/flk), Menace, shakey heads, Keitech Fat Swing Impacts. All equally successful nothing on jigs or cranks. We ended up catching over 50 but not a lot of size, maybe a half dozen 2.5s, most Smallies, one pickerel may have been 5 or 6lbs. Not a big deal in some parts of the country but we got to see a bald eagle a couple times, one time he did a dive straight in the water from high above and came out with a fish on his first dive/cast. We were off the water around 2:30 and had another great day in the books.
  10. Myself and Rhino had one of the best days fishing this past Saturday at a small honey hole on Cape Cod. The pond is approximately 200 acres with an average depth of 7 feet and max is less than 10. We were on the water by 5:45 under cloudy skies and heavy mist. Water temps were at 64 up from 68 on Thursday. The weather varied from howling winds, light rain, heavy mist, fog, partly cloudy, partly suuny, ect. I started throwing a blk/blu Boag Hog jig with a Paca Chunk trailer. Within 20 casts I had 6 quality fish in the boat. Rhino started slow (about 10 minutes, lol) then switched to Shaky Head with a four inch SK finesse worm in the coppertreuse color and started filling the boat as well. Over the next 9 hours we caught 100+ LMB's with almost all of them 2 to 4+lbs. We were pulling them from tight to shore under the overhanging cover and just outside or through the partially emerged pads. I also caught many on a Fat Albert curly tail grub watermellon with red flake on a 1/8oz round jig head painted by yours truly. One my best days fishing ...... ever. Had a blast but a little sore the next day from the endless stream of fish being caught. Also got to see a pair of Bald Eagles. Days like this make it worth those tough days when you work your butt off and only catch a few fish. This will be a day to remember. Tate
  11. That's one heck of a story! Video of all that would be priceless.
  12. Nice fish gentlemen!!
  13. That is a great looking boat .... enjoy, congratulations!
  14. I'll be joining Rhino on Saturday .... we'll get you out soon though Jiggy ..... still a couple weeks before I (my son) fixs my yard so I can pick my boat up from storage but won't be long now! yahooo Tate
  15. Last trip out in 2012, it was a cold slow day .... tried many different baits from the top to bottom. By the end of day I was fishing Yamamoto Senko's and a friend fished the BPS version, I caught 7 to his 0. We were both fishing watermelon with red flake, the shad of color was noticeably different with the BPS being a lighter shade of green....we were in dark water. Not saying it was the brand of Senko or the color difference but the catch rate was different. - Tate
  16. As a result of participation on BR I have met a group of anglers in my area and developed friendships with two very fine anglers (Fishing Rhino & Grampa). In regards to "TopWaterSpook's" comment that ..... "The gist of this is: what a great site this for information and networking." Last week I heard a speaker talk about the "Wisdom of Crowds" and I think that concept is spot on with what we have here. The speaker was New Yorker columnist James Surowiecki who explores a deceptively simple idea: Large groups of people are smarter than an elite few, no matter how brilliant–better at solving problems, fostering innovation, coming to wise decisions, even predicting the future. This forum is a perfect example of Surowiecki's concept.
  17. I've had good success with 1/8oz round ball jig head with a Zoom Fat Albert curly tail grub in Pumpkin w/red flake. With that weight it will have slow natural fall but fast enough for curly tail movement. Works well bouncing along the bottom. Can be rigged with weed guard jig head or without.
  18. For Nipmuc you can park on rte 16 on the lake side between the road that goes to Myriad and Alicante. The water gets deeper and better fishing towards Alicante. Up the road in Douglas is Wallum lake which can be very good in the spring. There are some good spots for shore fishing just past the beach area, those spots can be very productive in the spring.
  19. Those look good John!
