Crawdad Baits/Jigs - Locations to Target?
Fishing in vegetation I like to use an 1/8 ounce jig. The trailer will either be a ultravibe speedcraw, paca chunk, super hog, or a super chunk jr. I fish it like a plastic worm pulling it across the top of the vegetation and letting it fall into holes. When I'm fishing a deep drop off like a ledge, I'll up the size of the jig to 3/8 ounce. I'll use the same trailers, but I will pitch the jig to a part of the ledge that is shallow. I'll let it sit for a couple of seconds then drag it off the side, and let it drop down to the bottom. I'm trying to get a bass to watch it drop. The bite usually comes right after the jig lands on the bottom, and I start to move it a little.

Lake Baccarac November 2017 ~ video added
Didn’t count 6 pounds or smaller? I feel faint. Sounds like a great trip.

what do you do with wet lures?
I shake the water off of the baits and then put them in the tackle box. If the sun is out I leave the box open to let the moisture dry out.

Pond bass in winter
I think that once the cold weather sets in the bass move deeper but after a while they will move into area with vegetation. At least that is the way the bass behave in the pond I fish.

Casting or spinning small swimbait?
I use spinning gear for 2" swimbait with a 1/8 ounce jig head.

Favorite Jig Trailers?
Zoom super chunk, ultravibe speedcraw, and super hog. Netbaits paca chunk. Any beat up plastic I have in my tackle bag that I can't use for a t-rig.

You know you have a problem when..........
You tell your wife you can’t cut the grass because it’s too hot outside, but you go fishing in the bright afternoon sun when the temp is 90 degrees on the water.

Lew’s parent company buys Strike King
I hope SK quality doesn’t go down, but you know Lews finance people are going to go through SK with a fine tooth comb.

What tackle/setup do you use to fish for big cats?
Back when I fished for catfish I felt comfortable using an 8'-0" H rod. The rod was paired with an Abu Record 50.

Help me pick out my 6 rod and reel line up!
If it were me, I would up the crankbait rod to a MH. Sometimes those deep diving crankbaits are a chore to reel back in.
- Haaaaaa..... Panick Attack!!!!!

How often do you lose deep diving crankbaits?
I don't think I have lost one this year thanks to the lure retriever, and the plug knocker.

New Boat and Some Bass
That is one nice looking boat.

Ever run over all your rods?
I've never ran over a rod, but I have lost a few to car doors, and tailgates.
-
How fast do you abandon a pond?
The ponds I fish are around 4 acres in size. I walk all the way around the pond one time. If I don't get bites I move on to another pond.

fishing FOR frogs WITH frogs???
There are a couple of farm ponds where I cannot fish with a frog. I'll have 5 or 6 bullfrogs going after the bait.
-
Let someone buy a spot on your boat?
Nope. Not only do I not want to be put on the spot like that, but sometimes I just like fishing by myself.
-
Spinnerbait buzzbaits and vibrating jigs
Yes. I use a MH/F 7'0" rod from BPS.

New personal best
That is one nice big fish!

Favorite lunch when fishing?
Some kind of fruit. A lot of the food mentioned above aggravates my heartburn.
-
How often do you have a false hookset?
I'll run the bait across the top of a thick patch of vegetation that is under the surface, and I won't feel any resistance at all. I set the hook, and nothing.

The cost of fishing?
How much is rest, relaxation, and getting away from it all for a little while worth?
-
Can Your Favorite Rod Do This?
No, but then again I don't think I would want to try.

Cast over tree branch, then unfortunately caught a Bass
Good job getting that bass landed. I was fishing from the bank a few years ago and hooked a bass that looked to be in the 3 to 4 pound range. I had cast over a log and I couldn't get that bass back over the log. The log kept rolling and the bass kept hanging up on it. Eventually the bass shook itself free and swam off.
