  1. Baby brush hogs in junebug, green pumpkin, and black with red flake.
  2. I would start on the side of the lake where the wind is hitting and work from there. The little fish will come in after the stuff that washes up, and the bigger fish will come in to feed on the smaller fish.
  3. Is the lake full of small bass? There are several lakes around me with that problem. The lakes have hawgs in them, but you have to get the bait past the little ones first.
  4. I have my first reel. It's a Shakespeare 2200 ultralight spinning reel. I got it as a gift when I was about 9. I finally stopped using it about 10 years ago when a spring broke on it, and the new spring had to be modified so that it would fit correctly. I also have my first BC reel, an old Diawa Millionaire 5HS reel, as well as, a Johnson Century 100 spincast reel that is probably as old as I am.
  5. I could throw jigs and topwaters all day with no problem at all.
  6. Retire, buy a boat and move somewhere where I don't have to drive for 3 hours to get to a decent fishing spot.
  7. Tell him that you have checked his credit and it is bad.
  8. One morning driving to work, I honked the car horn at something in front of me that I thought was a dog. It turned out to be a skunk, and he let me have it with both barrels. Luckily the vents were closed so none of the scent got inside the car. It took a few washings, but the smell finally wore off.
  9. Read up on them so that you will know their habits during certain times of the year. When I was 13 I stepped on one that was sunning itself. Luckily I stepped right behind its head so it couldn't bite me, but it did hit me with its tail. I think screamed like a little girl, and jumped maybe 2 or 3 feet up in the air.
  10. Around here they seem to like bigger baits in the fall. I usually throw a 3/4 rat-l-trap, 1/2 jig with some kind of bulky trailer, or a big plastic worm.
  11. I have had better luck without rattles. In fact if I buy a jig that has rattles, I remove them.
  12. I heard that some of the public lakes around me were packed with people yesterday. I fished a local sub division lake that was pretty well cleared out by noon.
  13. Wow 65 years old. Do you know how long it was in the tank?
  14. I took my daughter out to a local lake to catch some sunfish. I caught a small sunfish on a rooster tail, and as I was bringing it in, a school of bass showed up. They looked to be in the 1 to 2 pound range. Well they all went after that sunfish in a feeding frenzy! Didn't get any of them, but it was quite a sight. I have heard several people talk about this, but I have never seen it until today. I guess I will need to go back out there with a swim bait.
  15. That is one nice looking smallie!
  16. If you don't use your gear it will always stay pretty.
  17. Wow that is a lot of rods. I think I have broken two in the past 30 years. I shut the tailgait on one, and I didn't let out enough line while pulling the bait out of a snag on the second.
  18. Back when I fished with cranks all of the time, the sub wart in hot tiger was my go to lure. I went on Google and typed in Storm sub wart and got this. http://www.rapala.com/SubWart/SubWart,default,pd.html?start=29&cgid=storm-hardbaits
  19. Some of the lakes I fish have grass carp that are easily 50 to 60 lbs. If you foul hook one from a boat it will drag you around the lake until it gets tired.
  20. Nice looking smallie! Good job!
  21. Good thing you set the hook or that frog would have been down in the fish's gut.
  22. I'd be afraid to bring something that size into the kayak. I may drop it and not be able to find it again.
  23. Welcome aboard!
