  1. ALRIGHT, I HEAR YA!... Darren, why'd you go back? oe
  2. Doesn't the 50e come factory equipped with a 90mm handle? oe
  3. Asked by a fisherman who had been inching his way closer and closer to me while we shore fished walleye, "What are you doing that I'm not?" My response while feeling somewhat crowded, "Catching fish." oe
  4. Find a Crown rotating vise (google it) oe
  5. WWIIfarmer gave a suggestion I would agree with, the rest of the suggestions I wouldn't choose a +7' long rod with a soft parabolic action. The crankbait category is so large and varied I would be choosing between crankbaits not whether a crankbait or some other type of bait. oe
  6. That's a great hat, John... Perfect for a pointed head. oe
  7. What kind of "action" are you looking for out of the bait? The LC Staysee ver.2 is my favorite. Ver.3 will sink to greater depths. oe
  8. Hootie... You are absolutely correct, printing of the two-dollar bill was discontinued in 1966 and printing was resumed in 1976. As the kids today say... my mistake! Please don't tell my wife, you'll ruin her image of me! oe On a side note: I tried to use the word "bad" in place of "mistake" just to be hip... the site wouldn't let me and corrected it??? How did it know I was an old geezer?
  9. I have several MS American Shad jerkbaits I don't particularly like. If anyone would like to trade for same/similar baits in sunfish/bass colors PM me. ( I know, I know... this isn't the Flea Market Forum...) oe
  10. I use a 4" curly tail grub as the most active grub along a continuum that includes a ~4" straight tail worm, ~4" boot tail grub (these days often referred to as a swimbait) and the curly tail grub. Water temp, fishing pressure and general bass "mood" will influence my decision of which bait to fish. I don't find it necessary to downsize the bait length often. My preference is to fish these baits with as little added weight as necessary, but still some slight weight. I think a little weight stabilizes the bait nose some and benefits the tail action. Unless the cover being fished won't allow it, I always fish these baits with an exposed hook point (also barbless). I like the Brewer Spider jighead when forced to tuck the hook point. When using the Brewer head I usually slit the thicker bodies along the top & bottom seam slightly to minimize the amount of plastic these small gap hooks need to accomodate. These baits are by far my most used smallmouth baits throughout the entire open-water season. oe
  11. In my lakes with a perch/bluegill forage base the ghost sunfish/bluegill colors are my favorites. oe
  12. The two-dollar bill has more iterations of itself prior to 1966 than any other US currency bill. 1966 - 1977 it was not printed. The 1977 and newer bills are easily found... the older than 1966 bills are not so easily found... oe
  13. I can't think why I wouldn't have a crankbait tied to it all of the time. oe
  14. ... not quite as neat as a 1921 Morgan silver dollar, or bi-centennial Eisenhower dollar, or 1964 Kennedy 1/2 dollar, or liberty 1/2 dollar, a one dollar silver certificate, or a 1928 $2 bill. Hang on to those Susan B. Anthonys, you've got something to show your grand kids someday. oe
  15. I don't live there so correct me when I'm wrong, but a couple of the east coast states make it pretty hard to bass fish... closed bass seasons, ban on lead tackle, expensive license, pay to use ramps, and "no motor" reservoirs. I'd find this government regulation to most impede my fishing. oe
  16. DNR has a position on dropping your trucks in the lake... you put it in, you pull it out, at your cost! No, I don't think that vehicle is still in the lake. oe
  17. Well, my Grand Dad told me how Minnesota ice fishing first came to be… Seems back in 1879 there was a lumberjack named Sven Oldsen that settled just three stone’s throws northwest of Fergus Falls with his wife Lena and their dog Oly. On a particularly bitter cold morn with the sun just throwing its first rays through the standing pines, Sven was awakened by a roar he could only imagine coming from a full grown bull moose. As Sven sat straight up to find Oly scurrying off the foot of the bed for whatever cover he might find, it came to Sven that the thunderous and now odorous commotion was merely Lena releasing some of the benefits of yesterday’s deer jerky. Day’s early light illuminated the generous stream of drool meandering through Lena’s Scandinavian mud pack facial and got Sven to thinking. He could slap the generous behind lying next to him and hope to convince Lena that a round of close cuddling was in order, OR… he could quietly creep out into the -17 degree northwest wind, trek the ¾ mile path to the Ottertail River Dam and chisel a hole through the 27 inch thick ice cover to drop a fishing line and hope to snag a couple more of those 7 inch perch he’d been snagging a few months earlier. That particular morn Sven’s decision took less time than would most of you still reading this story and the rest is, as they say in Minnesota, uff-da. oe
  18. Uh, Raul... You may think that Southerners are God's chosen people, but around my parts there are a whole lot of us that walk on water!!! oe
  19. Then buy a hook hone instead. oe
  20. Must be medical currency... oe
  21. Hootie... please don't waste this reel on a spinnerbait rod! Find a perfect light jerkbait rod... oe
