  1. I would never limit myself from fishing lakes due to esthetics or vanity of my equipment. I'd have to start asking myself why I was actually fishing then.
  2. Another one for All Star rods. Incredible rods for the money. Team All Stars - $100 ASR series - $100 American Classics - $75 - 80. As for BPS rods, the Extreme and Bionic Blade rods are good as are the Crankin sticks. Wait for Sales! Pinnacle reels are a good value as are the Daiwa Advantage TDA150 series. Best bet on the TDA's is to check the forums or Ebay. The BPS Extreme reels are great, wait for sales!
  3. John Storie, originally of Champion fame, had a non-compete deal when he left Champion which wouldn't allow him to build a hull like the Champion so, as the story goes, he copied a 482 Ranger, made some modifications to the hull and the Cobra/Viper boat companies came into existance. They made the Fisher's in the same plant. Same hull. Storie left Cobra and started Hawk boats with basically the same mold. Hawk was bought out by Legend in 2001 when Hawk was about to go out of business. I'm not 100% certain but I believe the new Legend owners have changed the hull from the original mold designs they got from the buyout.
  4. Put a new plug in it and tear the carbs down and clean it. Make sure the gas in the tank is fresh. Change the squeeze bulb as well.
  5. Sure you don't have the impeller in backwards?
  6. Are you working on that thing in the street? Ugg, that would suck.
  7. A LM between 7-10lbs. A limit at 25lbs. Crappie - Something over 14" I'm also predicting a win over dink if he throws some of his Washco tourney's again. ;D
  8. Were you able to find a matching pair of pumps and a cute handbag while you were there?
  9. Not a banner year for me but far better than last year. Since I didn't participate in the prediction thread my 5lber this year exceeded my predictions!
  10. Sorry, I just checked your profile and my boat and motor is 9 years older than you are. ;D Anyway, any boat, new or used, is prone to have problems. I've owned 2 new boats in my life and the others were used, I had problems with the new boats just like used. As for parts availability? Anything I need for my '87 Yamaha is still available either new or used. Not that I've had to worry about that much, my motor runs great year after year with only typical maintenance as my expenses. Most OB motors, if properly cared for and operated will be the same.
  11. You'd better get yourself another GPS to verify your numbers. 29 mph with a 15hp motor on a boat that's rated, according to Crestliner, for a 35hp? You gained 11 mph by dropping the pitch 2" and changing engine tilt angle? Dropping prop pitch will cause you to lose top end speed not gain it even with an engine tilt adjustment. Get yourself another GPS. Your numbers essentially mean that boat, properly rigged with a max 35hp motor, would be running in the 45-50 mph range. not likely.
  12. very, very slow.
  13. I've been trying to find some Poes RC1's without much success.
  14. Obsolete? ;D Are you buying a boat or a computer? I've got a 20 year old boat that is far from obsolete.
  15. You should try the platinum series! You'll forget about spending over $150 for a rod ever!
  16. I've noticed the Revo's are more prone to backlash if I make a rather jerky cast while trying to throw the bait a long distance. This isn't the reels fault but instead me hurrying a cast and not being smooth about it. Other than that, I've not noticed any of my Revo's being any worse for backlashes than any other reels I've fished with.
  17. Hmmmm... A few years ago BPS was having a free rod n reel giveaway with every Nitro boat that was purchased. The rods were IM6 6'6" special made for the promotion rods which never appeared in the stores or catalog. The reels were Pro Qualifiers which I sold a number of here. The guy at Tracker Marine sales, who I was buying the rods and reels from, said they were left overs from the promo. Has anyone here bought a Nitro the past couple years that had a rod n reel giveaway? Is it possible these were the reels that were part of that combo? Just a thought.
  18. Reel engaged. When flipping you're using a preset amount of line that you've stripped off to fish with. As the cute little illustration above indicates, when you need to move your bait to a new position, you raise the rod tip while simultaneously pull back on the line. This causes the bait to swing back towards you. Once the bait reaches the apex of it's swing and begins swinging back, you begin lowering your rod tip while letting out line. Sorta like fly casting.
  19. Daniel my Bratwurst. ;D
  20. Used them for years. Never had a failure with one either but then again, I don't flip alot. They're alot more useful for pitching rather than flipping.
  21. As stated, you'll have to go with the Zoom G tails, a close look alike. Ditto became Allen lures then they just sorta went out of business. You can find them on the forums occasionally. I've got some left but won't part with any.
  22. He and I are in complete agreement.
  23. I like my baby back, baby back, baby back... Ribs. Get in my belly!
  24. Torn between rooting for KU, our neighbor and VT where my niece just graduated from last May.
  25. Looking at that picture... who cares about fishing...
