  1. I guess I would prefer to fish off the port side but I try and use the wind to my advantage everytime I fish so it then comes down to what type of structure/cover I'm fishing and what direction to hold the boat in order to give me my most effective presentation. It could be one side or the other. The best position would be right in the middle. Mine is on the right side only because the previous owner(s) had them there and I didn't want to leave a bunch of open holes in the cap.
  2. I just got to thinking. Do the rooms have any sort of mini fridges in them? The only reason I ask is I had hoped to bring some crappie back and I'm not sure what to do with them. Wonder if the lodge has any sort of freezer accomodations for guests?
  3. Well, some sort of sewer anyway.
  4. 8lb 6oz on a SVSP 53 Storm Wiggle wart.

That's the whole men are from mars, women from venus concept. When they start going on and on and on and on.... well, you know what I mean. Immediately resist the urge to try and fix her problem. Just listen and then tell her you understand. I thought the whole thing was crazy too until I tried it. It actually works. ;D I still don't understand why a person would babble on and on to somebody unless you were wanting that person to help resolve your problem. But I guess that's why I'm a lunkheaded, knuckle dragging, neaderthal male who's main reason for existance in life is to run to the quickee mart and get chocolate when she's having that period before the period.
  6. Great. Burley peeing on and off my back deck on Tuesday and Speedbead trying to leg hump me on Thursday. This is going to be like a Gallagher concert. I'm wearing a 50 gallon trash bag so I don't get anything on me.
  7. I've shipped a lot of rods & reels and have also had some pretty incredibly quick delivery times from the post office using priority.
  8. If you chose USPS priority mail. There is no tracking available with priority except at the time of drop off and at delivery if the seller purchased delivery confirmation AND dropped it off at the PO at the counter. In other words, if it just left CA that means the person you bought it from just dropped if off with the USPS.
  9. Outstanding reel. you can easily get one NIB on ebay for $120-130.
  10. I have been a Garcia guy for a long time before switching over to Pflueger. My reasons for the change relate directly to this thread. I bought a couple Johnny Morris reels made by BPS, I was finding it far easier to fish with the JM reels than the Revo SX and STX's I had during a day of fishing. I found the Pflueger line of reels had similar features to the JM reels but also had features I liked about the Revo's. I still have JM reels, a couple REvo's along with the Pfluegers. Almost all my rods are All Stars. I like consistency with equipment basically. When I pickup a rod to throw a spinnerbait, I want the feel of the rod and reel to be similar to the crankbait setup I just put down on the deck. I don't want surprises nor do I want to have to finesse a rig just to say I own it. Sort of like golf clubs. I wouldn't want a bag of completely mismatched clubs. I want the same feel whether I'm picking up a 4 iron, a 3 wood or a wedge. Just personal preference I guess.
  11. Let's do it. Maybe we can roust up a group to go try. The State park is only 15 miles away. In fact, there's a ramp right on 68 that's less than 10 miles from the lodge.
  12. I was actually looking at your post and was going to PM you about fishing at KY. I thought away? Away from what? ;D
  13. For any non-boater interested, I still have Thursday open and I may... may just drive the 10-15 miles on Thursday and put in on Barkley lake at the State Park on the Little River arm.
  14. I know what online and offline indicate but what does "away" mean? :-? and yes, I checked the FAQ's.
  15. Light colors. I've had a couple boats with what was called charcoal grey and those things would bake you in the sun.
  16. I just don't think I'd be any happier with a 20' boat than the 18 1/2 I have now. Yes, the storage space would be greatly appreciated but I can't imagine the extra expenses involved. Bigger engine in the tow vehicle, bigger OB. Both burning more gas. In fact, I often miss my old 16 1/2 foot superV Champion. It was quick, great handling little boat that could get into the tightest spots.
  17. New update. See above.
  18. I just got off the phone with the guy at the Marina. They had only 4 covered slips left for the week of the get together. I went ahead and snared all for of them. One is obviously for myself and a second is for Brent and mattm, my roommates. The other two are up for grabs. Since I'm coming in on Sat. I took mine for Sat - THurs nights. The others I've held for Sun - Thurs with a credit card. If you need a covered slip you need to PM me so I can give you the information you need to call them and get the slip put into your name. There are more un-covered slips available, those do have electric. He also stated that there are often slips the big boats use that are unoccupied that could also be used. PM for details. UPDATE I got a voice mail from Dale at the marina this afternoon after talking to him at lunch. He has 2 more covered slips available for Sunday - Thursday. I was unable to contact him back to reserve those as well. One slip I have is taken by Uncle Leo. Simple Joe has dibs on the second. Dale indicated to move fast. We're going to be down at KY lake in the heart of Crappie season, the slips are going to go soon if you don't grab one.
  19. Indeed. I got 50000 news all mentioning the cuts in productions until price recovers. Also the stimulus plan isn't helping the price of oil. :-X But the stimulus plan is sending the stocks up for other industries as well. : Yes, sure wouldn't want big oil to lose a drop of the billions in profits they've been raking in the past couple years by paying some workers during a slow season. Just an example of why fuel should probably be nationalized the same as electricity. In this case, lots of folks out of work these days who can't afford $2 a gallon gas forced to pay it as they're out looking for a job. Yep, big oil doing the American thing all right, high prices were always completely out of their control. >
  20. 4" of water in a days fishing is too much. I'd try and diagnose that problem first as water getting into a boat can lead to more damage down the road. First, put the drain plug in and start filling the boat with water from the hose. You're looking for water coming from a hole or crack in the hull or water leaking out from around any transom fittings. The next spot to look is the livewell hoses or fittings themselves. While you aren't filling it, water does enter the boat via the livewell hoses and sits there until it gets pumped in. Those are very prone to crack or have fittings that leak. Beyond that, get a 2 in 1 bilge with auto capabilities. Hook the auto side straight up to the starter battery.
  21. If you have one of the individual cabins those have facilities right at the cabin to charge. If you're in the lodge, their are electrical outlets (around 5) spaced around the island you see in this photo. As you can see, that's a pretty big island. You also can't back the whole rig in, you'll have to drop the trailer. Like I said, a 3-way outlet and long extension cords will probably be the safest bet if we can't get slips. Kinda sucks.

If you take the worst, most unreliable car I ever owned and add it to the worst, most unreliable boat I ever owned, the cost of maintenance and upkeep on the both together are a drop in the bucket compared to my wife and her expenses.
  23. I can cook but you're right, those guys are on a different level completely. BTW, I like the new guy. A big fan of Flay and Batalia but it's nice to see a new guy with new ideas. He hasn't quite hit his stride yet but so far everything he's done looks good.
