Sorry for improper posting in General Forum. Was thinking more on line of fishing Wake Baits vs. fishing a specific Wake Bait but it is tackle I guess.

Hardbody Wake Baits, can’t say I’ve ever fished this type of topwater. Have fished some very shallow running Bandits and Mann’s for river smallies but they are subsurface. Picked up a couple Wake Gizzard Shad patterns to try. Not uncommon for me to see large surface schools of them. But in all honesty in the lake I’ve never seen a school of largemouths chase them down or bust them up. I guess I haven’t been in the right place at the right time yet. I’ve seen and fished busted up smaller schools. But these huge waves of them I never seen them pushed or pushed hard. I’ve been in the middle of them and I could net them (never have). Wake style seem interesting enough to try. Something slightly different. My even draw attention to river Muskies while fishing smallies. They love a Bomber or Shad Rap on occasion.

Italian Ice. That will have to be done next trip. That one got past us. I had the best piece of strawberry short cake at Gibsons Steak House in my life. Never better before going to Chicago, nothing better since I left there. I bet there are some smallies up in that Chicago River. The further I got up it the more structure I saw. Not the most picturesque area but, I caught smallies and greenies in Philly proper in tidal water. No real rush to go back there but it was something I just had to do. I may have been on water I was not suppose to go over. Not sure. Back some time ago Iaconelli done a show and he fished an area I was in also. Biggest fear was wether or not I was gonna have a truck and trailer to go back to. Putting in on Jersey side next time.

I’m trolling and drifting the whole time out on the river. Everyone’s current situation is different. I don’t think there is much of an advantage one way or another in my situation. Lure action can be effected. Some baits I prefer to throw them upstream. The river has a lot of current break situations.

Was out there a few years ago. For a few days. Loved it. Baseball, hotdogs. pizza, steak house, pier, stadium tour, towers, boat cruise, mob boss house, bus tour did as much as we could do. I’ll be back. Crime…..it’s every where. More drive by shootings than Philly. I doubt it.

I’m sort of with you on the blue color. I don’t use it when it comes to soft plastics. Not a solid blue worm or creature. Blue crankbaits, different story. Seem to be a working color for me in the fall. I assume it is because water is cleared. I am fishing them slightly deeper in the fall but not extremely deeper. I don’t fish them through the summer. They don’t produce during that time.

I share the same passion as the rest of y’all. Fishing for new PB, learning experiences, time with grandsons, my daughters are not young, they have kids of their own but I like taking them both out. In general bass fishing is addictive and a disease. I’m not the most religious guy but it is a connection time for me also. There are things that strike/spark me before I ever make my first cast. I love being on the water early before the sun is ever up. Water like glass. The colors of the sky where it touches the water. The rising water spouts that come up off the river. Heavy fog mornings like being in a cloud. Then it’s game on. Smallie time.

Most likely the reason they are pushing this in blocks and use it in a melt down form and pour it on. Maybe they are truly on to something, I don't know. I don't fish enough spoons in a two year period to pour in onto. Could help salmon fishing. Maybe, maybe not.

I'm not willing to bite. The owner went on to say the balls/eggs do not hold up well and break off and apart, especially in rocky areas. They don't float so they won't help your bait with being more buoyant. To me I can do the same thing with a piece of Velvetta Cheese or chunk of Parmesan Cheese.

I saw that guy there, BS a bit with him on Friday about his product. Good luck with it. I see where he is going to push it in a melt down form of it in a block for it to be applied to hard baits and spoons. I never asked for a sample. Maybe an egg/bead installed in front of a Texas rig worm.

I for the most part I order and install to make my repairs. For the last few months what I’ve been doing to keep the frustration level down is I exhaust my sure fire contacts. Than throw it in the lap of purchasing. They should be doing it anyway. When it gets in, I’ll get it to run. With a few months remaining, no frustration is going to be going on in my part. Actually they can let me go tomorrow / this afternoon for all I care. Easy trip over to U-Haul, rent a trailer, my tools will be rolling up the highway.

I try to keep fighting through a tuff day. A lot get tough. A Rat-L-Trap has saved the day many of times. Many of times I’ve had to throw at the bank and fish that narrow section where the bank meets the grass. Small bass seem to hang there up at the lake. I believe they set there all day and hunt down small shallow water bluegills. PowerWorms or PowerGrubs seem to work well when I’m begging for a bite. But that 10” green fish keeps me from getting skunked.

I can’t dis a DS. I’ve never tried one. I have to believe the reviews which seem to be positive. I just haven’t been moved to try them. A tube for River Smallies or punching or jigging a weed less mag tube for largemouths is grass is no hesitation.

I believe a grub was mentioned. 3” are my go to size. But I would never hesitate to use a tube. You might be like “oh that’s old school” River Smallies like old school. Throw a Beaver, a lot of good choices in them.

I’m in heavy industrial equipment repair and I’m having some supply issues. Been pretty lucky up until September. Work wise I’ve never missed a beat through this pandemic. Fishing Supplies I could not tell you where that is going.

I generally have mine long before this time also.

I’m thinking of retiring in a few months. Pretty sure my plans will not change. Regardless of economy or world state. But the way things are looking sometimes I want to second guess myself. I will be retiring a bit early but you never know what will happen to you. Here today gone tomorrow. My plan is to get caught up with some things at home. Go chase some early AM smallies around on the river on days I want to, head to the lake midweek for Mr. Greenjeans at leasure, and set around in the woods on mornings I want to a shoot squirrels for my friends who want them. The minute I start changing my plans due to economics, world problems and unqualified persons in control of these situations I feel like I’d be making a huge mistake.

All I can say is my belly is growling right now. I wish there was a deer neck roast on the stove in the pressure cooker and a bag of some nice soft spun hamburger rolls and a jar of Blues Hog bar-b-que sauce waiting for me when I get home. There isn’t but I can taste it.

I like that bacon ? wrap idea on the doves. I’ve done deer tenderloin in a bacon wrap much like doing a piece of filet Minions (spelling not right but you know what I mean). Early next fall I’m gonna work on getting me some and try the bacon wrap on the charcoal grill.

Grubs, Tubes, Beavers…….. in something close to Roadkill Camo pattern.

Dove can be made a million ways I guess. But an Easy, simple, tasty way for them. Dress out the doves and pop out the breast meat. Only real meat on them. Wash them real good and marinade them in the fridge for a few hours. Remove them from fridge, break out a bag of Shake & Bake for chicken, shake um down and do them up on a cookie sheet. Better than any Chicken Mc Nugget or King Nugget or there. Not a bunch of pressed shaped meat from floor scraps. Wild Turkey, season it up good and try to make it in a brown and serve bag. Just a suggestion.

Don’t really see your point in bringing this up. You can sort of see salmon fishing though. It’s alright to you to catch a 15# salmon throw it on a boat deck and watch it suffocate to death. But you can’t see pheasant hunting or any bird hunting when these animals are shot the death of these animals is in milliseconds. I could make you some oven baked dove and you’d be licking your chops for me to go shoot you more.

You can probably tell by my post that these swimbaits are not my go to baits. RI Dippers was what I could find at the shop with that boot type tail. Tried to cover myself with what looks natural. Shiner, Smallmouth Magic and White Trash. All of which caught fish. The White Trash out fishing the others. Pretty decent color in clear water. White with silver/black fleck. Pretty basic. By the post I’m getting I have a lot to grasp. Have really only been fishing it like a topwater and just under the surface.
