KVD is pitching his new line of rods. They are glass but are supposed to have the feel of graphite. Once again, your rods are your personal preference. Some guys like to mix and match rods and reel brands while others swear by one brand. KVD says it is to your advantage to have all of the same brand rods. Personally, I have a variety and love 'em all. Even my old Ugly Sticks. Go figure.

Sean, When using cheaper line as backing, please double check the diameter of the filler line and your "good" line. Try to either have them match or have them as close to each other's diameter as possible. Use a "Uni-Knot" when tieing them together. This method is a good one to get the most out of your "good" line and save some money.

Wayne, I guess you make the show what you want it to be. I had a good time and enjoyed seeing the new boats and meeting lots of vendors. I also visited the Orange County High School booth. Nice setup and you all had a bunch of kids all over the place. Even the girl on crutches was walking around. Ike was using the Nuclear Nelly and had very good success. I finally found them today at Green Top just north of Richmond and I will be using them on my drop shot rigs. Thanks for the warning about the leakage. I will be careful.

According to Uncle Homer Circle in one of his publications, he saw larger bass go into structure and not move when they heard a trolling motor. This occurred when he and Glen Lau were filming one of their videos about bass fishing. If Uncle Homer says it, then that's the truth. Period!

Ron, I brought my KVD book, Secretes of a Champion, for KVD to autograph after his seminar. When I arrived at the Expo I went to the Host Services booth and was asking the guys about having my bass club guys come into the Expo earlier than 9 AM on Saturday, when in the rear of the Host Services area was KVD, himself. So I asked him to autograph my book which he did. What a great ambassador for bass fishing. He was a nice guy; we spoke for a few seconds; and he autographed my book. He also caught his first bass of 2009 right in front of us. He was demonstrating one of his techniques when one of the bass took the lure and would not let go as he fished the Oklahoma Bass Tank. He caught a second one a few minutes later He told us that he did not want to catch any during his presentation. I wish I was that good. Can't get better than that!!!!!

Hey Wayne, What booth are you working? I was there today and the vendors filled th first two buildings and part fo the third, but not like the good ole days when all three buildings were packed. Good turnout today. We had about 200+ at the KVD seminar, which was excellent. Visited Green Top and picked up two Strike King Sexy Shad jerkbaits and some Guld! Nuclear Nellies. First time I have found them since Ike mentioned them in an article early last year. I will be at the show from 9 to 12:30 and then meeting who ever shows up around 1 PM inside the convention center's entrance. Hope I can meet you. Later, Sam

Sean, First, get a GMCO map of Lake Anna so you can study it and be familiar with that body of water. Google GMCO maps and you can get to their site and see what they offer for Lake Anna maps. Second, being a non-boater and never having been on the hot side, the boater will take you to where he wants to fish. Contact him and find out what he is going to be throwing and if he wants to fish the shoreline or if he has a "secret" place. Let me know the secret place!!! ;D Third, we usually fish the shoreline so the fishing area is actually shallow to about 15 feet. When viewing the GMCO map, get a marker and highlight all areas of the lake from 5 to 15 feet. These are the areas you will probably be fishing. Remember, the air temperature will be cold while the water temperatures will be in the 60s. Maybe the high 60s if the reactor has been turned on the week prior or during the tournament. The hot side has lots of docks and piers; bulkheads; coves; canals; dikes; creeks; rock banks; some bridges; and some good flats and points. Each creek has its special places. Shaky Head, Wacky Worm, Texas-rigged plastics, crankbaits, jigs and Carolina rigs can all be productive. Topwaters in the AM can also work. Try your Chugbugs and Cavitron buzzbaits. Try a Glimmer Blue trick worm on a Shaky Head presentation. Ghost Minnow or Sexy Shad crankbaits are good. You may have to use a deep diver to stir up the bottom. Skip plastic worms, Shaky Heads, Wacky Senkos or plastic worms and GY Kreature baits from your spinning rigs under docks, piers and boats. The water can go from clear to stained. Never seen it dirty. You want the stained water. Throw the Carolina rig on the flats and off points. Dike Two has rocks so you can throw a jig and pig. But be prepared to lose a bunch of jigs in the rocks. And you can throw the jig and pig where you throw your worms, too. Check the moon phases and remember that the week before the full moon is the best fishing. You will like the hot side of Anna. Last time out I caught 10, all around 12 to 15 inches, off the boat docks and piers and under the moored boats. Caught them on plastic worms and crankbaits off docks and boat houses. Have fun; wear your PFD; dress warm; bring food and drink; get tackle organized and have some fun fishing "warm" water as you freeze your butt off!

I remember when Issel scored his points to set the mark. I think Pistol Pete Maravich of LSU may hold the top spot for opponents scoring in Rupp Arena. When LSU played UK I think Issel guarded the Pistol and he smiled and laughed the entire game as Pete just kept throwing in those two-point baskets. To this day I have been told that Pete Maravich is the only visiting player to get a standing ovation in Rupp Arena. Hey, records are made to be broken. Good win for the Cats. ;D

IMHO, the numbers of the reels mean they can handle stronger presentations. So if I am using worms I will use a 100. For cranks and spinnerbaits a 200. So far, no need for a 300.

Here is the scoop on high end equipment. The higher cost reels have more bearings and therefore perform better and last longer. High end rods are supposed to have more feel and be more sensitive. KVD says, in his book - Secrets of a Champion - to have all of the same brand rods so you will get to know the feel and you can feel the hits better. KVD also suggests using rods made for specific techniques, such as drop shotting, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, etc. Personally, I like Shimano reels but I do have a Flooger President that I love. Senko77 gave me a tip on what reel he uses for swimbaits and I am going to take a look at it at the Richmond Fishing Expo this weekend. Your equipment is a personal choice but if you stick to the name brands, especially their high end models, you will have many hours of problem-free fishing. P.S. Get Kevin's book. It is outstanding and a great read.

X2 what BassFishingMachine says. Love to flip or pitch them into cover. I use a weedless hook which means I can throw them all over the place. Did you know that you can find special runs of the Kreature bait for specific bodies of water? Check out your local tackle shops on the different bodies of water and see if they have any special runs in stock.

Hey Budaman, Happy New Year from a southern neighbor down in Virginia. All I can suggest is that you Google the B.A.S.S. and FLW web sites and then see if you can link to their Maryland clubs. Or, hit the big fishing expo later this year in Timonium and check around for bass clubs in your area. The Maryland Game Commission (or whatever it is called) may have some information for you, too. I do think your best bet would be to try to find an FLW or B.A.S.S. club in your neck of the woods via their web sites. Good luck.

JimmyO, Location is more important that the lures. How good is it if you throw the correct lure where there are no fish? If you throw anything around the bass they may hit it. So you need to find the bass first, and they try various baits and presentations. Check out KVD's DVD, Strategies for Changing Conditions, from Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Video Library and you will learn a lot. The DVD comes with the 3 DVD Set and it is cheap. But don't tell anyone about this DVD!!!!
