In the state of New York, employers have to have Workers' Compensation insurance. Work Comp benefits will be paid to the employee's family, in addtion to funeral expeses as per the New York Workers' Compensation laws. The family can bring legal action for gross negligence on the part of Wal-Mart. Based on the details I have heard about the situation, the family may have a strong case against Wal-Mart. I have no idea of how strong the case may be against the law enforcment agency, but you have to name them in the legal action as it is easier to have them dismissed than to add them to the claim at a later date. As stated above, Wal-Mart does not want a trail or the negative publicity. Since Wal-Mart is "self-insured" for their Commercial General Liability, Wal-Mart will pay their CGL deductible, $500,000 to $1,000,000, and the reinsurers will pay the balance. Everyone will forget about the case until it is revisited next Thanksgiving. Then it will float away. Merry Christmas.

Check out the diameter of your 8-pound test and compare it with the 10-pound test offerings. If the same, you may not have a problem. If it is not the same, you can have problems. Remember, the rod's specifications illustrate the correct line test and lure weight for maximum performance and casting distance. If you go outside of these paramaters you are short-changing yourself and you could damage the rod. I am sure you have $10 to $12 to purchase the correct line test, even if it is a small spool. If you want the correct line test to last longer, consider using the 8-pound test as a backup on your reel and then spool on about 100 yards of the 10 or 12-pound test onto your reel. Use a uni-knot to tie the lines together. And double check your reels to make sure their specifications balance with the rod's specs.

Let me tell you what I was told when I was teaching at the University of Richmond. The more you know the more difficult it is to answer a test question. Those students that leave the test feeling great probably did poorly as they did not have all of the information to completely answer the questions. The students that left the class thinking they did poorly do so as they know too much and are worried that they left something out. This is why so many high school and college students are surprised at their test and final grades. You know a lot more than you did three years ago. So you have to do your homework before you venture out and apply what you know. Know the body of water by studying maps. Know the weather as the fish will act differently depending on the moon phases, cloud cover and wind plus drops in temperatures the day before you head out and if it is raining or it rained the week before. Know the cover and strucutre on the water, like piers, docks, boat houses, wood, brush along the shore, pads, grass, points, dams, rocks, bridges, roads, buried brushpiles, trees, etc. Then, select your techniques (power vs finessse; shallow vs. deep; slow vs. fast; etc.) for the trip. Water clarity is also important. Clear, stained or muddy. After deciding what to do, organize your lures and plastics for the trip and place them together so you know where they are, adjacent to your other baits. Set up your rigs, starting with topwaters and followed by the Texas or Wacky rigged Senko to throw if you miss a topwater strike. Then the brain will kick in as to what other setups you want. Shaky Head; Texas; jigs and pigs; Wacky; Carolina; beavers; tubes; grubs; creature baits; split-shot; drop shot; mojo; etc. You can throw them all, but not at the same time. How about your cranks and spinners? Set them up, too. You can decide to take only one or two types of each lure, such as the Ghost Minnow and Sexy Shad crankbaits; the white and chartreuse spinnerbait; the fully chartreuse skirts; or white, only; or other color combinations. And don't forget your Rat-L-Traps. You see how fast things can get out of control? Now we are adding Rats. And what color rats? So take your time when planning your trip and experiment. That is all you can do. Just remember, a football team studies their opponent and their plays for certain situations before they hit the field for the game and you have to do the same. Planning is a lot of fun so take your time and think about what you want to do. And what about pointers? Red or yellow eyes? Should I bring any Gulp! or stick with Zoom, Powerbait or Senkos? Chatterbaits? And what size Senkos? Are the 4-inch dead ringers OK? Maybe finesse worms, only. Any 10-inch worms needed? Maybe junebug will work? or Mocassin Blue? What about black? Peg the weight? What pound test? Mono or flouro or braid or copoly? And never leave your Banjo Minnows home. Drive yourself nuts!!!! It is part of fishing. ;D ;D ;D

The polls make up a part of the BCS rankings and there is a lot of bias in the people ranking various teams against some schools. I agree that Texas deserves the Big 12 championship seating more than OU. It is a shame that the pollsters knew this prior to their voting OU above Texas, knowing that they were delibertly cheating Texas out of the championship game. Seems there may be some hanky-panky going on against Mack Brown or the University of Texas. I am sure the outcry over an OU-Missouri game will be heard loud and clear at the Big 12 headquarters. Then again, maybe the Big 12 headquarters people do not like Mack Brown or the University of Texas. Did Bebo ever dump on the lawn of the Big 12 headquarters???? If not, it is time to take him there for a visit. Do I smell a conspiracy????

Lower ratio = power. Higher ratio = speed. The E5 with 17-pound test mono can be an excellent setup. But it all depends on where you fish and the cover and structure in the body of water. As for the tux, rent one. Wearing a tux is few and far between unless you are a chauffer. And a suggestion for future posts. Type clearly and use "white" space so it is easier to read and follow your post.

Yes, on Rat-L-Traps I replace the front hook with a larger size and remove the rear hook when fishing over grass. Not all the time. Depends on my mood and how lazy I feel. Have not done this on regular cranks but anything that gives the crank a different look should be good. I add a split-ring between the original split-ring and hook on my Chugbug front hooks to have it hang lower. I also add a larger hook on the Chugbugs. So go for it and let us know how it works.

Loser of the SEC Championship game goes to the Sugar Bowl if the SEC Championship game winner goes to the BCS game. Sugar Bowl has a record of inviting the "strange" teams, like when LSU defeated Wyoming and last year with Hawaii and Georgia. I would not be surprised to see Utah, Cinncy or Bosie State play in the Sugar Bowl this year. Time will tell. Stay tuned.

No, I am not going to the game. Went to the last Georgia Tech - LSU game in the Cow Bowl and had a good time as the underdog Tigers won the game 10-7. Will stay home this year and watch the game on TV.

If the developer leaves the pond intact, just ask a few residents that back up to the pond for permission to fish. If you are nice, clean cut and tell them that you release all fish and do not make a mess or leave litter around, you may get them to agree. In the meantime, fish that pond as often as you can before the houses are sold.

LSU playing Georgia Tech in the Cow Bowl in Atlanta on December 31st. I want to play Louisiana Tech or ULaLa in the Indy Bowl, not a team that just beat an UGA team that beat LSU by 14 in Tiger Stadium. How about Arkansas State or Rutgers in the Pappajohn.com Bowl? That would be a good and competitive match up for the Fighting Tigers. Two opponents that they may beat or keep the score close in a losing effort. Who set this up? Was it the work of CBS? Or ESPN? Or the new LSU Athletic Director who loves the ACC? Inquisitive minds want to know. I would like to have the Fighting Tigers win a bowl this year and the Cow Bowl is not the place for this LSU team. Low ratio = power. High ratio = speed. A 5:1 can be outstanding for crankbaits. I love my new Curado E5 but I throw cranks on various reel ratios. The secret is in the line. Use 17-pound mono. And swing rod to left or right when setting a treble hook bait. Just some suggestions. The guys are sure to chime in with their input.
