I am in the Who Cares catagory. Really, it is up to the ball players to go out and earn their living by giving 100% on every play even if they do not like the owner, coach, assistant coaches, fellow players, the city or their position. So Who Cares????
  2. Yes! The ref played linebacker at Kentucky and he just could not help himself. Great play. LSU needs to make sure the ref is on the field in Tiger Stadium when Nickie Satan and the Bama boys come to town in November. ;D
  3. Throw Nighcrawlers. Fish them on the bottom. Put them under a bobber at different levels. Fish them shallow along the shore. See what you catch. Try to find where the fish are and if they are in the pond. Then, you will know what fish are in the pond and at what depth. Try topwaters in early AM and late PM. Cavitron buzzbaits are excellent. Try "dead sticking" a Senko or a finesse worm. Just throw it out and let it sit for 60 to 120 seconds and then give it a twitch and let it sit again for 60 to 120 seconds and give it another twitch, etc. Try a deep diving crankbait. Have you thrown a Carolina rig with a tungston weight to feel the bottom? If not, then do so to get an idea of what is on the bottom. Tungston weights are excellent for feeling the bottom. And use a graphite rod as it has a lot of feel in it to help the tungston weight communicate with your fingers. Do you see any minnows or catch any bream? Match the hatch with your plastics and hard baits. You now have a challenge to map out your pond; locate the most productive places to fish; and try to find any structure under the water that will hold the fish. Easier said than done.
  4. Hey Airborne, What was your picture that was removed? E-mail it to me. I got to see this!!! And the name of the worm, in military language is... whyjumpoutofaperfectlygoodairplane It's the Army in me. ;D ;D ;D
  5. It is probably caused by depression, lack of adrenalin, the high levels of lactic acid in the muscles caused by the lack of catching anything. You also stand most of the day, disappointed that there is little or no action, and you realize that your arms, back, legs and feet hurt. When catching fish, you forget about your health problems and are happy and excited about catching. Just like when you played or are playing sports in high school. During a great game you don't feel the pain or the hits. You are pumped and your adrenalin level is high and the latic acid in the muscles are not a factor. Then, after you get home, relax and take it easy, the aches and pains return as your body adjusts back to normal and your mind no longer blocks the health issues. If you do not catch any fish, your adrenalin levels are not high and the latic acid in your muscles take over and you feel depressed and hurting all over. You become frustrated which magnifies the problem. Depression is your enemy. More than the fish. So do all you can to eliminate the depression, even if you are not catching anything. This is why every cast is important. And you have to concentrate on what you are doing and continue trying to figure out your opponent. This is not painful or depressing. This is the fun part of the sport. This is the challenge. This is why we go fishing. To outsmart an animal with a brain the size of a marble. Anybody can catch a fish if you are on the fish. The secret is knowing how to locate the bass and what to throw to entice them to strike your bait. So don't get depressed. Each outing is a study in what to do and not to do which will make you a better fisherman. Write down your adventure in detail and keep your records so you will know how to approach the same body of water or weather conditions in the future.
  6. Have you tried crankbaits or spinnerbaits? What about topwaters? Shaky heads on the bottom? Wacky worms under docks and piers. Buzzbaits pulled across and near any wood in the water? Just wondering.
  7. Glad to read that the south Louisiana saltwater fishing is in good condition after the two hurricanes this year. Great post. Redfish on the half-shell tonight?
  8. Jack, Funny you should ask your question. The question makes the world go around. Both the Lowrance and Hummingbirds are good units. It depends on what features you want as to which one to purchase. Brand recognition is a very strong impluse that advertisers know and play on, be it the size, color, feel, taste, smell, status,or what it does. Just check out the soap powder boxes and you will find a brand for every type of person who washes their clothes, be it getting it white or if it smells good. Look at the Ranger ads. See what they are selling....the sizzle and not the steak. So every person on this site has their own preference. I like Lowrance, Shimano and All Star and Kistler rods. Others like Abu and Flooger and BPS brands. When in high school, we all had to wear the same name brand equipment or we were "different." No matter what the item, it had to be the "same" as the other guys. So check out the features you want on the Lowrance and Hummingbird web sites; check the units out at your local tackle store; and then decide. And go with a little larger screen; a color screen; a few additional features so you can have them in the future. All I can add is that if you include a satellite GPS you will never regret it. The Bait Monkey awaits you. ;D
  9. Hey, a bass is a bass is a bass. Everyone counts, even the dinks. Color looks like green pumpking with black flake, a good color this time of the year. Heck, all year long. Now go back out and catch his mother! ;D

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says, "My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?" "Well," says the vet, "let's have a look at him." So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes. Finally, he says, "I'm going to have to put him down." "What? Because he's cross-eyed?" "No, because he's really heavy." 13. Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mom or my dad or maybe my older brother Calvin or my younger brother Ho-Chin. But I'm pretty sure it's Calvin. 14. 11. Dan, Be sure to keep us up to date during the winter months when a lot of us can't get out to fish. Post those pics, too. Welcome and glad you are with us.

Super! Another SEC football guy. We need all we can get on the forum. Welcome and start asking your questions and giving us your input.
  13. Hey Jim, Beautiful country up your way. I bet the leaves are changing and the foilage is spectacular. Be sure to ask your questions and add your answers. Glad to have you with us.
  14. Its performance is great. Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft: Very low memory. Light line. Strong line. No knot failures. Just a nice line to use. And it has proven itself with guys on the forum which means that the advertising means nothing. Real stories from real guys makes this line an excellent addition to your war chest.
  15. Selecting a rod can be a stressful adventure, unless you have done your homework. First, you need a review of the various cranking rods on the internet, which you have done. Second, you have to determine the size of the crankbaits you will be throwing; the line test; and if you do better with a 6'6" or 7' rod. Third, you need to find a rod that is a "cranking" rod that meets your specifications. Some guys, like me, use graphite, while others swear by glass. For example, I put a new Curado E5 (5:1:1 ratio) reel on my BPS cranking 7' medium heavy rod with 20 pound Stren mono (use mono for treble hook baits) and then added the 1.5 Ghost Minnow, set up the rod, went to local lake and caught seven (7) bass in 60-minutes. (When I fish a tournament I will switch to Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft Hybird for my line.) It is a smooth setup and the rod can handle the bait's weight and line size with no problem. And it casts beautifully, with no backlashes. Yesterday I threw this setup at a pond and caught two (2) of my four (4) bass on the same setup, and the two (2) bass were the largest I caught all day. So you need to decide: Graphite or Glass? Length of Rod? Line Size? Bait Size? Any brand should meet your specifications. Just make sure the rod's specifications meet what you will be throwing. Let us know what you buy.
  16. Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft Hybird is terrible. Don't use it. If you have any send it to me. If you are fishing in a tournament against me leave it at home. Remove it from your reels this instant or your reels will fall apart. Don't trust it. Send it to me and I will take care of it and dispose it, properly. P.S. Anyone out there want to buy a bridge? ;D ;D ;D
  17. I broke the tie! Actually, I like them both. I nailed a LMB yesterday on a shakey head presentation but I have caught my largest bass on a drop shot. The drop shot did not work yesterday for some unknown reason but they hit the shakey head. Go figure.
  18. Boudreaux and Fontenot are walking down a street in Houston when and they see a sign on a store that reads, 'Suits $5.00 each, shirts $2.00 each, trousers $2.50 per pair.' Boudreaux says to his pal, "Pooow! Dat's cheap for dat dere clothes. May look here! We could buy a whole mess of 'dat, take 'em back to Abbeville, sell 'em to our friends, and make a fortune." "Now when we go in there you be quiet, okay? Just let me do all dat talkin' me 'cause if they hear your accent, they might think we're ignorant, and try to cheat us." "Now, I'll talk in a slow Texas drawl so's des' don't know." They go in and Boudreaux says with his best fake Texas accent, "Howdy Pard. I'll take 50 of them suits at $5.00 each, 100 of them there shirts at $2.00 each, and 50 pairs of them there trousers at $2.50 each. I'll back up my pickup and ...." The owner of the shop interrupts, "You boys are Tulane graduates, ain't you?" "May...yeah," says a surprised Boudreaux. "How come you know dat?" "Because this is a dry-cleaners."
  19. I have ultra lights for the guys (ages 7 and 10). One is 4'6" and the other 5' and both do well with the 4 pound test. Of course, tangles do happen but they can cast them easily and all fish are great fights on the ultra lights.

  21. I guess this is why we check the weather before venturing out. Was this adventure before cable TV or the internet?
  22. One Fish Anna strikes again. ;D
  23. There is a college on the eastern shore of Virginia? There are places to fish for freshwater fish on the eastern shore of Virginia? I fish ponds all the time. Great fishing when you can't get the boat into the water. Just walk up to the pond, being very quiet, and about 10 feet from the pond throw your bait just in case there is a bass where you are going to fish, being sure to cast to the right, left and in front of your spot. Fish it just as if you were on a lake, throwing crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, other topwaters, Senkos and finesse worms. The fish will tell you what they want and at what depth. When moving around the shore, stay about 50 feet or more from the shore as the bass can tell when you are approaching. Just go out and have some fun and fish. Early AM and late PM are always good times for pond or lake fishing. Now, what school is in on the eastern shore of Virginia? Or do you go to school in Maryland? Just curious.
  24. Go to the Reel Mechanic's web site and he has diagrams on how to tie a Palamor Knot. I use the Palamor all the time on all baits and my knot failure has dropped to almost zero. Be sure to wet the knot BEFORE you start to pull the line end snug and then wet it again when you pull the tag end snug. Pull tag end after you pull the line snug. Then, pull the knot tight. Watch for line burn when the line becomes curled. If the lne curles, then retie. And check your knot after every three fish and retie if necessary. And follow the advice on using your thumb nail to check for any knicks or cuts in the line above the hook.
  25. My goodness. I bet you can see Russia from your bedroom window! That's a lot of snow. How many inches?
