LBH, I was also thinking a drop shot rig but if Omaha is new to bass fishing he will not have any idea of how to rig it. What about a Carolina rig with a long leader and a floating worm? How deep is Omaha fishing? And how deep does Omaha want the bait? The bobber idea is excellent and I agree with the guys but not knowing the bait being used it is difficult to offer pointed advice. So Omaha, tell us about your current set up; the water depth; and how deep you want your bait to sit in the water column. Armed with this data the guys can give you more advice. P.S. Try not to bunch everything into one large paragraph. Put some "white space" in your posts as they will be easier to read.

Wife and I are heading out this morning to join our American Legion Post 354 guys to put American flags on the graves of our fallen comrads at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia County. The cemetery is a beautful sight with all those flags on the graves. Last night we attended the Richmond Pops Band, featuring the United States Army Choir, for a veterans day concert. It was super. God Bless America.

Demndjd22, Great post! It is nice having the guys tell each other about the good deals out there. As for the setup that you saw and you have the opportunity to purchase..... go for it. What is amazing is that the fish have no idea of brand names, rod lenghts, baits, line types, reels, graphite vs. glass, and who in the world is Kevin Van Dam. The fish just want a nice meal, like going to McDonalds and pigging out. After you buy the setup please go fishing and then post the pics of what you catch!

You can fish the Potomac all year. Right now the grass has not all died and the spinnerbait bite is on. Give it a try and let us know how you did.

My friend, who is a B.A.S.S. pro was on the Potomac, racing back to Leesylvania boat ramp for the weigh-in, when he hit something just under the surface of the water and it sheared off the lower unit. He says he was going around 70 MPH in his Ranger and that he heard the thump and the boat came to a slow stop. He used his trolling motor to get back to the ramp. He was very lucky as he could have been seriously injured or killed if the motor had been thrown back into the boat. He has no idea what he hit, but he thinks it was either a submerbed stump or a tree just below the water line. This shows us that even the pros can have serious problems on the water and no matter how careful we are we can still get into a ton of trouble in a blink of an eye. The repairs are covered by insurance so he will be getting a new motor and be ready to roll in a few weeks.

Hey fishintime, I have the same problem since #1 son broke the spring loaded lever on my winch strap. Since I can't take it anymore, I ordered a new winch strap from BPS and will have it installed ASAP. Right now it is a big pain to hook and unhook the winch strap to the boat so I know what you are going through. The good news is that the last two times #1 son took the boat out he did not break anything. ;D

Being type A, I need to be on the move so it is a crankbait for me.

The line is new to you, but how long has it been on the shelf? If the line is "new" then by pulling on it you are cutting and nicking the line on your spool. Can you use a lure retreiver or the bow and arrow method of retrieving your lure? As you know, mono does stretch but I don't think that is your problem. For some unknown reason, your line is being cut or weakened while on the spool so I would consider not doing what you are currently doing and see if that helps. Just food for thought.

About ten-years ago my wife and I attended a small convention in Richmond, Virginia where people were there selling franchises. One franchise was to sell Disney products to schools and other organizatins for fund raisers and to get them into grocery stores, etc. I investigated this idea and found out there there are companies out there that offer franchised territorities to people to sell candy and other items for fundraisers but no one on the selling end makes any money and is usually stuck with unsold product. Check out your idea on the web by Googling these types of ventures and see what comes up. Remember, baby boomers are coming along so they will need goods and services so maybe you need to rethink your enterprise.

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Only thing that bothers me is that you are finding these things on the internet and not doing your homework or making lures or fishing or begging your dad to take you to BPS. But it is fantastic video and that guy is a real artist.

May I suggest a seven-foot "heavy" graphite rod with a strong handle to handle big bass and rod specifications that support the line test and bait size you will be using? Always read the rod's specifications and go from there. Consider using a 4:1 reel for the lower gear ratio to get the power to fish a deep diving crankbait. The bass that you hook will put a lot of pressure on your rod and reel so make sure they are up to the task. And you will need to cast a long ways, too, so be sure to balance your rod, line test and bait's weight for the maximum performance. Have fun.

Everyone above is correct. First, take a Q-Tip and run it around all of your rod's line guides. If you see any cotton, then you have knicks in the line guides. Replace them. Second, DO NOT PULL HARD ON BACKLASHES. This method will cause nicks and cuts in the line. When you cast, the line and baits keep going out into the wild blue yonder. I have done this in the past so don't think it only happens to you. If you have trouble with backlashes, take one or two extra baitcasters with you and change them out. Third, how old is the line? Have you ever treated it with the Kevin VanDam Lure and Line Conditioner? Has it been on the reel a long time. Has it been exposed to the sun? How old was it when you purchaed it? Always purchase your line from places where they sell a lot of line so you can get the freshest line, possible. Remember to run the line through your first finger and thumb, using your thumbnail to check for knicks and cracks. Then, cut that part of the line off your reel. Or, if you think a lot of your line is damaged, pull it off the reel and cut it off, and fish with the remaining line. When spooling line on your reels consider running the line through a wash cloth with a wet spot of KVD Line and Lure Conditioner. This will treat all of your your line (except braid - don't do this with braid) so it will be soft and supple. To help avoid backlashes, balance your rod, reel and bait. Set up your baitcaster to go fishing, or at the pond/in the boat, and point rod tip to 11 o'clock. Drop bait to ground (not carpet) and adjust spool and drag tension so that when the bait hits the floor or ground the spool stops. You have now "balanced" your rod, reel and bait although you can make minor adjustments after casting a few times. After I "balance" my baitcaster, the spool actually stops when the bait hits the water. And remember to match the rod's specifications with the line test and lure weight. Read what your rod tells you and stay within those paramaters. Let us know how you make out.

LSU has won the last five straight games against Bama. Game is in afternoon in Tiger Stadium. LSU does not play well in the afternoon. Although we are having our LSU turkey fry for the game, unless Lee doesn't screw up; and the pass defense plays some pass defense; it's not going to be pretty in Red Stick this Saturday. Hey, the Indy Bowl in Shreveport is a good bowl. ;D

May I suggest trying a drop shot rig? And a spinnerbait? Give 'em a shot and see what happens. Fish the drop slow.

If the catfish are eating then there should be forage for the bass. As the guys said, go and fish it for bass. And fish it for bluegills and bream, too. You may want to use a shaky head or a drop shot along with a wacky Senko and a crankbait. With fall upon us the bass may be staging in the deepest part of the pond. Let us know what happens.

I call the two disks that are used to set the drag "drums" as I equate them to auto brakes. Just my terminology.

The only problem is that when she calls BPS to order stuff for me, which I have picked out, of course, the person at BPS talks her into buying something else that I don't need or use. But my wife is the greatest, just like yours. Arn't we lucky to have such fantastic mates????

Have a pro take a look at your drag. One of the two drag "drums" may be bent and you don't notice it unless you remove them and hold them up to a light to see if either one, or both, are bent out of shape. Send reels to the Reel Mechanic if you do not have anyone in your area that repairs reels.

When setting a hook be sure to rip that rod over your head with a lot of power, keeping pressure on the line to remove all slack. Except..... When setting a treble hook bait on mono SWEEP the rod to the right or left. Reel in slack ASAP and keep line tight. Point rod tip towards or into the water to stop fish from jumping and throwing your treble hook baits. Good question and this is why we are here, to give you the answwer!
