"Turnover" is a magical time when the warm surface waters cool and become heavy enough to sink beneath the warmer, lighter waters beneath. This warms the surface all over the lake and all the fish and other wildlife sense the change. The fish and mamals will start to adjust for the cold water that is heading their way and find places to "winter" and also conserving their resources so movements are held to a minimum. You fish "deep" when this happens around drop-offs, mid-lake holes, old creek channels, bluffs, railroad trestles and cliffs off very deep points. Vertical presentations are the best after the lake "turns" but you must have patience in finding where the fish are holding. Use your sonar to find the bass or the structure that the bass may be holding. Do not anchor above where you want to fish as that will spook the bass. Throw out a marker and try to cast as close to the spot you have found as you can. Try your drop shot or jigs and be ready for a "soft" strike. Set the hook when you feel anything that is different than what you feel when there is no fish on the line. There are a number of articles on this change over and I know we discussed it on this site previously. Hopefully guys with more scientific knowledge will add to this post. Remember, patience, patience, patience. It can drive you crazy.

Oklahoma in Championship Game I would love to see an LSU-UK game. I think it would be more enjoyable and entertaining than LSU-OU. Of course, LSU has to beat Ole Miss, Arkansas and Tennessee in the SEC Championship game to make it to the Sugar Bowl so all we can do is sit back and enjoy the show.

LSU should move into the #1 spot in the BCS on Monday with Oregon second. If both teams can win out it will be the prettiest uniform vs the uglest uniform in the Sugar Bowl. Geaux Tigers!

As far as I know you cannot hunt them. Of course, maybe specific places around the country allow it. I was told they are federally protected.

I use my 7 foot Kistler with the 7:0 Curado for a fast retrieve. I can slow down the Curado for a slower retrieve. I just love it. You can cast far; reel fast or slow; and have the power for a good hookset. I also use this rig for Chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

A little one-inch white grub on a 1/64 jig head fished on 4 pound test with an ultralight rod. For some reason they bream just eat these grubs like candy. And so do the smallmouth if they are around. I caught a 22 inch bass on this rig at a pond. That was one heck of a surprise. I use a split shot if I want to go deeper. Put the slip shot sinker about a foot from the hook and fish the grub Carolina style. But I get the best results just throwing the grub out, weightless, and reeling it in near the surface or just where I can no longer see it as it disappears into the water.

Good job. Glad you had a great last hour fishing. I agree, I would think that bass would weigh around 5 pounds, give or take. Hey, give, it never hurts!!!

Yes, Coots do find the grass and fish. No, I do not like Coots because they find the grass and eat the fish. They are a protected species so there is nothing we can do but chase them away. I cringe everytime I see one diving down into the water. There goes another baitfish or a small bass. I wish the Bald Eagles would eat the Coots.

No, no females interested in fishing at all in my family. Wife will lay on back of the boat and read while I fish if she goes out with me. She loves to make a picnic lunch and we anchor in the shade and have a nice picnic on the boat. No ants, too! We were stopped on the Chick Lake two years ago and the two game wardens never asked to see her license. I guess they could figure out that she was only reading and had no interest in fishing. With that said, she knows that I like fishing stuff so she is thinking of getting a new boat cover for my Christmas present. Great wife!!!!

I had to wait an hour and a half to renew my Virginia drivers license this past April. The DMV clerks just don't care. They are as slow as postal workers and they can cop an attitude at a drop of a hat. My wife had to get her license renewed and had a favorable experience after waiting about a half hour. Her vision test was a joke as she needed new glasses, which she got two weeks later. As for registering your boat, the City of Richmond, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries all know what boat and motor you have. That is how we pay the personal property tax to our counties and cities and the registration renewals from DGIF. As they say, "just follow the money."

Catt, What is the web site address? Tigers should have a good game tomorrow evening without a heart-stopping finish. If we beat Ole Miss next Saturday afternoon we are in the SEC Championship game.

Bassn Blvd, Man, did you do good or what? Fantastic run and now you can try to beat it by starting over. I don't chew or smoke but I love chocolates and Coke-a-Cola. But chocolate makes me crash and Cokes make me fat so it is very difficult to give them up. Of course, niether chocolates or Cokes cause mouth cancer, which is deadly. My wife's cousin had part of his tongue removed a few years ago due to mouth cancer and to say the least it is gross. So since we want to keep you around for a lot more years and get all of your fishing secrets and favorite baits you use we need you to continue your goal of giving up the chew. Triton9, Congats on making the field on One Fish Anna. Quite an accomplishment. Are your grades as good as your fishing???? BP48 probably did not make the field as he has too many other things on his agenda than fishing this weekend. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that would have kept him from being invited to the tournament (other than not qualifying). As for the Pamunkey, did you post your information on this site? We would like to know where you went, your presentations and how you did. The Pamunkey was wild with water this past weekend due to the hurricane in the Atlantic. Williams dock was totally under water and you could not tell if the tide was rising or falling. The river should be back to normal buy this weekend. So let us know about the Pamunkey and One Fish Anna tournament. Good luck in the tourney.

G-man, I hate to say it but I really do not remember any nasty posts from you. Not that I remember all posts; but usually you get a feel of the individuals on this site by their posts and I never had any negative feelings towards you. Welcome back. Have some fun. Give us all of your secrets to bass fishing. Like, on a river in November, when the water temperature is dropping into the low 60s and the water is a little stained what do you suggest we throw?

We have a friendly ghost at my house. We can smell his pipe tobacco on occassions and he likes to open the downstairs closet door in the foyer. There are three cemeteries around our house that were part of a large plantation back in colonial times. We found the only slave cemetery and one white cemetery, but we cannot locate the second white cemetery. Now there is a big mall on the majority of the property so we will probably never find that third cemetery. Also, one of my clients, Alexandria City Public Libraries, had a boiler room in the Queen Street location that none of the cleaning staff would enter and the cleaning staff would complain that the library was haunted. I went down to that boiler room to check it out and it was COLD and SPOOKY and I ran out and never went back. When the library decided to renovate and expand the Queen Street Library it was found to have been built over a cemetery. Like lots of graves beneth it. And no one at the Library had any idea. So each body had to be exhumed and reburied before the renovation and expansion work could begin. Now I hear the renovated library has no problems with ghosts. And being from South Louisiana I do believe in the supernatural. In fact, there is a plantation above Baton Rouge that is haunted. Many folks have run out of it in the middle of the night. I wanted my son and his bride to stay there on their honeymoon but my wife squashed that idea. I thought it would be funny.

Basspro48 will kick your fanny all over the lake. ;D However, with that said, friends fished One Fish Anna last weekend and they found the bass up in the creeks. I was not paying attention to the details as to which creeks so I can't help you there nor to what they were throwing, but knowing them it was spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps and suspended Rapalas. I know some probably threw some wacky rigged Senkos, too. Let us know how you did and how far behind Basspro48 you ended up in the tourney.

Last drought brought salt water into the James and Chick rivers and killed the grass and bass. Chick has been stocked with Florida strain bass and they are doing excellent. Salt water has moved up many tidal rivers, pushing the bass further inland. We need the rain to wash the saltwater back east towards the bay. Tidal rivers and their fish will survive the drought and fishing will be excellent once we start to get the rain and snow. Yikes! Did I say snow????? You know what we do in Richmond when it snows? We go to the grocery store and then drive into a ditch.

What game? Call that a game? Coach Fran is on his way out. I heard that it is between Kuibak (spelling?) and Tubby from Auburn as to who is going to be the next coach. Time will tell. And good ole UT did it again. Just like LSU. Lucky, lucky, luck.

Unless the Fighting Tigers start to play smart they will not make the BCS Sugar Bowl. Too many stuipd penalities. Defense agains the pass in nonexistant. Glad Parker connected on only 14 passes tonight. Lucky, lucky, lucky. Well, at least Tulane lost and it looks like BC is in trouble with FSU but who knows. I can't take many more of these last minute wins by LSU. Lucky for us we have La Tech, Ole Miss and Arkansas left before taking on Tennessee or Georgia for the SEC Championship. Catt, if we can live through these games we can live through anything.

Wife is in hospital getting ready to be relased after her 3rd back surgery; LSU has a turkey fry at my American Legion Post to have fun and watch the Tigers clobber the Tide and I have to open and close the facility; and I have my rods and reels in my car to stop at a local pond to try my luck for an hour or so this afternoon with hopes that the doctor does not release her too fast. So I know what you guys have been going through regarding fishing and I sincerely hope all of us hit the water, either from our boats or the shoreline, soon! Glad George and Avid are 100%. Lets go fishing!!!

I grew up with the Bear and the great Bama teams and players but it is now LSU's turn at the gold ring. Son attended Bama so I get a whole lot of BS from him, too.)
